Just think like when you're flying between Europe and Americas and need to go to toilet. And when you flush it gets out because of cabin pressure and get frozen. Just like Oumuamua is flying on space. And even the shape is almost same.
There can be some kind of bacteria to be investigated but it's not same life form like where it came out from.

  4. Why firewall? Protecting some other computers? on Ask Slashdot: User-Friendly Firewall For a Brand-New Linux User? · · Score: 0

    Hi

Good you found Linux and you are trying it.

Some rules what you should know about different Operating Systems - examples about Linux here:
    - Linux does not need firewall. Unless you are protecting other computers.
    - Firewall is not needed unless you have ports open (listening) what you can not close. On Linux _you_manage_your_computer_ and you can close programs which are listening and you don't like.
    - If you have any services you want to protect being accessed from bad/wrong hosts... you have options like tcpwrapper.
So check your ports by running command: sudo lsof -i -Pn
It shows you currently open connections AND ports which are ready to receive traffic from Internet.

If you see ports what you don't want to be listening then identify it and stop. Like this:
    smbd 7114 root 26u IPv6 101652 0t0 TCP *:445 (LISTEN)
So you have smbd (Samba) listening TCP port 445, it has PID number 7114 ("sudo kill 7114" to kill it) and it is running as root level.

So - you don't need firewall. Just knowledge how to close unneeded services/programs.

Also even more visual if you can have physical robot with a pen control. Children can see robot crawling on floor as you program. Control pen and even change color.
Later they can learn loops and other more complex things. See Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logo_(programming_language)

  11. And HP does not accept/pay when I tried to return on Lenovo Requires NDA For Windows License Refund · · Score: 1

Just three months ago I bought HP Compaq 6715s laptop which came with Vista Home Basic. I wasn't going to accpet Microsoft licence but I booted directly to Hardy CD. Hard disk had plenty of unpartitioned space so Linux installation was easy.
Same time I was browsing internet to find if I get refund. Verkkokauppa.com didn't know anything about Microsoft terms here http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/useterms/Default.aspx so I had to call Microsoft. And they said that their terms do not apply for OEM pre-installed laptops. So finally I tried to phone HP support two days until I got their support guy on the phone.
And he said that they won't pay and licence can not be taken away from that computer. Also I can't sell my Vista Basic licence for somebody who might need it! Licence is only for that laptop I bought. Period.
So - then I might be able to run Vista on KVM virtualization? Then Vista runs on same computer where it was licenced?! HP support told that yes, I can run. But another problem...
How can I install Vista into virtualized environment because there was no installation media?!?! I tried to browse Vista partition but I wasn't able to find .ISO -image or anything else. There were .WIM files but I didn't know how to burn these. And same time I trashed Vista partition so it didn't boot and install Vista anymore. I was planning to install Vista but without registration. Then burn image to DVD and trash Vista afterwards. But it didn't work.
So last change - trying to phone HP support again remembering that it was very difficult to get them answer (call goes to switchboard ALWAYS after 2min queue). But this time I got person on the phone without too much queueing. I asked if I can get Vista DVD from there. And yes, I was able to have it - for free!
But it came too late - I took laptop to my sister with Ubuntu Hardy. Now she is happy with it and she does not need Vista at all.

Hmmm... should I sell Vista even I'm not allowed? How much money I can ask? I have original un-used Vista licence code and DVD.

  12. Typing with mobile phone keyboard on Smartphones For Text SSH Use — Revisited · · Score: 1

I have tested few ways to work with mobile phone, ssh and keyboard.

I carry small Nokia E65 phone with WLAN (WiFi for some of you) and 3G. There are free PuTTY for Symbian S60 software.
For typing phone has just basic 12 number keys with # and *. And there you can not use predictive input but just press appropiate key as many times until you get correct letter. And it is very annoying...

So then I bought Freedom Mini keyboard. It is credit card sized bluetooth keyboard (but thickier) for mobile phones. Quality of that keyboard is very bad. Not all keys work without pressing them many times. Or you may get neighbor button symbol out from another button. I opened keyboard and tried to fix bubble-switches into correct place. But I wasn't able to fix it. So now I don't have much use for that keyboard. Also it was missing some Scandinavian characters even I was able to fake it to be a Finnish keyboard.
Same keyboard worked also with Nokia N800 internet tablet (not a mobile phone even it has VoIP). But same keyboard problems were there too.

Some of my friends have Nokia E61 which is BlackBerry clone from Nokia. PuTTY SSH works there too and friends do remote management and IRC (Internet Relay Chat) with that phone. It has also a WLAN, 3G and email.
I don't like that kind of mobile phone - it is too wide because of qwerty keyboard. But it seems to be very good for typing while at mobile.

For people who would like to have full scale qwerty keyboard could try Apple Bluetooth keyboard. It works with my phone, internet tablet and multimedia PC. But it's not easy to carry. Another solution could be Nokia foldable keyboard. There are some other brands too who make similair bluetooth keyboards. Those have full-size qwerty keys and those are fast for typing.

Does anybody have experience about Logitech diNovo Mini keyboard? It should work with mobile phones and computers. Is it good and fast for typing? And how much space does it take on your pocket? How about weight?

Also basestations can't follow your phone if you fly fast enough. Cell phone selects always best basestation which signal strenght is highest. And on aeroplane signal strenght varies a lot.
