There is a difference between fictionalizing an event that has happened (as in the movie you cite), and taking a future event that may or may not happen (I have no standing on the issue and don't truely care) and parroting the specific events in it as though they were fact.

It would be somewhat like watching the movie "Mission to Mars" and claiming we should not send a manned mission to the red planet because the alien traps left behind will kill the crewmen.

It is a near certainty that we will send a manned mission to mars eventually (as in, it is a near certainty that we are causing global warming)but the specific events that result from either case are equally unknowable. General ideas, sure, but not as specific as in the parent.

If they wait long enough they can just CG him into the following Indiana movies. Then he could have multiple roles (young Indy, based off the Star Wars texture (or possibly River Phoenix, etc.), the Indy we are all used to, and possible the "real" indie as a cameo.

Hell, they could throw Humphrey Bogart and James Dean, and everyone else they have been editing into commercials (they're families don't seem to mind the images of their loved ones being used to sell Coke or Mustangs).

In any case, I think it will eventually happen that all our "best" actors will go and get completely character modeled, then the models will be saved for future use, and this may be the best thing that could happen to them (Imagine a character with the looks of Jessica Simpson, the voice of James Earl Jones, and the acting ability of 20 character modeling experts....)

I worked on the Step Into Liquid High Def DVD (albeit on the Surf Board Selector, not the actual encoding of the film) and even the lowest acceptible quality bitrate for the HD WM9 requires a 3ghz processor to view.

Now a hardware solution wouldn't need to have anywhere near that much power, but your crusoe wouldn't even touch this codec.

I would be nice to have a multi-purpose media player capable of using all the different high end codecs, but as it stands now, the cost of the processor alone would price it out of the range of most home users.

You should have been a more industrious kid.

I remember buying the 3DO when it first came out (I believe I was 12 or 13) for $650 at the AT&T store, the only store in our city that carried it.

I also purchased the NeoGeo console for $500 and several games over the years for around $100-200 a pop.

But as a kid I was never given an allowence except for a $5 a week stint that only lasted a few months. And my parents stopped purchasing game systems after the NES because they didn't understand why I needed a new one when the one I had still worked (and had hundreds of games I didn't own..)

So how did I do it, I pimped my ass on Freemont Street. Actually I pulled weeds, mowed lawns, washed cars, cleaned roofs (nearly everone in my neighborhood had a flat roof, and since all the kids climbed on everyones house anyways, I figured I get something out of it.)

In short, I did odd jobs for $5-10 a pop and it didn't take long at all to get all those toys that the other kids could only imagine.

Although, if I had it to do again, I don't think I would purchase those systems, especially the 3DO.

This subject seems to have already been put to rest, but since you asked so politely, here is your snarky reply.

Crew get paid via established guidlines. This is independant of how much money the film does or does not make. So if I pay (or not) to watch a big budget Hollywood movie that is made in Canada, with Canadian grips, set designers, "extras", etc. it makes no difference to these people because they have no stake in the actual profitability of the film.

And if a film is done in Canada, with an all Canadian crew, and the main actors (who may profit share from the film) are also Canadian, then I would venture that this is not a US property, and as such is not what we are discussing.

But, as I said earlier, this argument has already been rendured moot by a previous reply to the parent post that explained how this agency also collects money on behalf of its foreign interests (I.E. the RIAA / MPAA)

Pointing out the errors in my spelling and grammar was to be expected given the nature of my post. However, when I made my comment I was most concerned with the invention of words or misuse thereof by a person who was at least passivly making claims at above average intelligence (and yes, 1 in 50 or the top 2% is above average). I have made no such claims. Taking pot shots at the grammar of someone who has admitted their shortcommings in this department seems mean spirited at best.

Small errors in spelling and punctuation I overlook, as should you (considering you made such errors in your own post, for example using "I" for "A" and "bothering" instead of "bother").

From here on I will attempt to respond to each point you raised.

What I learnt in English class at school here in Sweden might not apply to your American English, but at least here we learn that nationalities should be spelled capitalized (even when used as a noun), and last time I checked France was still country and French was its nationality. I grammar/spelling checker would have informed you about that. That also applies for your usage of the word "English" in the second paragraph of your post.

I realize the plural noun construction should be capitalized, this was a typographical error (much as I expect your use of "I" instead of "A" was).

Also, don't you think you should have said "this piece of advice" instead of "this advice", and don't you think a colon would be more appropriate after this? If not, you refer to what has been previously written, and that part of your post contains nothing but rants.

No and No. In the first part, "this piece of advice" or even "this bit of advice" is only used to provide a que to the receiver that only one article follows (so that they can respond, or not, after that single "bit" of advice) because in general the noun "advice" is used in plural. However, since this is written, and not a conversation, I don't need to give you that information because you cannot interject while I am "speaking". Secondly, while a colon would have made it abundantly clear that the advice given aftarwards was the intended it is not necessary because while the pronoun "this" could be interpreted to have meant that which was previously mentioned, it is most often associated with the idea that is most present, or closest in proximity, which was in that case the following statement.

Did you really mean a roll, or did you mean a role? I find the latter one more likely.

You got me there. You win. My entire point has been invalidated.

This being Slashdot I felt compelled to play the roll of grammar policeman (despite the fact that I know my own grammar to be lacking).

Unless english is not your native tongue, someone claiming to have superior intelligence (as your tagline clearly makes this claim) should take pains to write clearly.

This would include not making up new words where others work perfectly well, I.E. "terrorship" instead of "terrorism" and "moralic" instead of "moral". Further, phrases such as "more clever" can be reduced to "cleverer".

More to the point, your entire message was written so poorly it gave to me the immediate impression that you are more than likely a young child in gradeschool, with below average writing / reading capabilities.

Of course, your reference to Kabila and the french leads me to believe you are more than likely a non-native english speaker. So I would offer this advice. Use a spelling / grammar checker to help remove the confusion that arises from a "MENSA" thought being articulated through an imbeciles tongue.
