"The sad thing is, I really don't believe we'd have been much better with either of our presidential alternatives: I think Gore would have found a completely different way to bungle things after 9/11 and make someone miserable (probably us) and Kerry would probably have really fouled up the occupation...yes, even more than Bush."

You can't go to war with the President you'd like to have, only the one you've got.

In all seriousness, I know this is just an opinion but what could you possibly base this on?

  7. Hard drive failures on iTunes Sales 'Collapsing' · · Score: 1

I think the main reason is that it took this long for people to have some sort of data loss event (hard drive failure, laptop stolen, etc.). Apple's unfriendly and limited reauthorization process is a pain in the ass when everything else by them merely requires a drag and drop. Once the word gets out by a few people, "Oh, I spent a ton on iTunes and lost it all because apple won't let me redownload the files I paid for" or "I tried to burn a CD but I'm out of burns" and people will limit their purchases. I probably spend $100-$200 a year on music and less than 5% of that is through iTunes.

The current treatments for advanced melanoma (Dartmouth protocol or Interleukin 2) are extremely difficult to take and they only have a 5-10% chance of a full recovery. Granted, this new treatment only worked for 11% of the patients but typically the people in these studies are in them as a last resort. We tried to get my Dad into one after his chemo stopped responding.

It was too late for him, but hopefully not for the thousands who die from melanoma every year.

"I think that the future (not that it's really pertinent to this question) is something local, a client running on every editor's PC, like NetObject's nPower (if it's any good, haven't used it)."

I highly disagree. If you're able to get by with that then you either...

    1. Don't have much content to manage
    2. Don't have to worry (too much) about training new editors
    3. Don't have to worry about integration with other business systems

CMS solutions are not easy to implement and rarely do everything that you want, but putting that much power in editors hands will inevitably get disorganized. Maybe I don't know that much about nPower, but that's my initial impression.
