I remember something similar where my then (now ex) girlfriend was feeling pretty damn frisky while I was in the middle of doing some on-call work on a Saturday afternoon. Well things started happening and unfortunately at that point I had to call one of our data centre guys to eyeball something for me. I kept on the phone and tried to keep a straight face, all while there was some reverse cowgirl happening at my desk. Funny enough I managed to not cut the call short and we both burst out laughing the instant I got off the phone.

Frivolities were paused at that point until I completed my work and then we could continue on uninterrupted.

"Fosters"? Puhleeze. From what I understand (and may well be wrong about), what you call "Fosters" is a product we call "Crown" (and it is still overpriced and not that great). The "Fosters" they offload on us poor convicts would be the fifth keg of the night at a frat party, at BEST. The last bar that honestly served "Fosters" in any seriousness was the one on the set of "Crocodile Dundee".

The others here know of what they speak. Blue Tongue, little creatures, cascade and many many others wipe their boots with Fosters.

Oh and VB is absolutely shit too and is only popular thanks to the assholes in their marketing department.

Is it a "standby" UPS or a "line interactive" ups?

If it is a "standby" ups then it basically does nothing to the power until it detects the power drop below a threshold voltage level and it then kicks the batteries into play to supply a correct voltage /sine output.

If it is line interactive then all power going in goes into the regulation/filtering circuits and won't have any of the fluctuations in voltage/sine wave that could potentially be present in the power.

I Hope this helps you in some way.

I'm getting that feeling as well. Playing with my tablet/phone is merely a fun thing for the child to do. Bright colours, some cool noises as reward for a certain action. Done with supervision and in moderation ( i am talking 5 minutes at a time, every few days at most) it can't destroy or delay development.

Parking the kid in front of the tv for 5 hours a day on the other hand, cannot be good for it's health/development.

  11. baby fireworks & doing it in moderation. on Ask Slashdot: Android Apps For Kids Under 12 Months? · · Score: 1

Our kid is 4 months old and an app which I have sometimes brought out for him to play with on my phone is "baby fireworks". Now I don't bring it out all the time or rely on it for him to be distracted/use as a plaything. It is just something that gets brought out that he is allowed to play with periodically

His lamaze toys, Sophie the Giraffe teether and various rattles and bright baby books do a sufficiently good job of amusing & distracting him. It is brought out as an occasional toy (think once every few days for a maximum of five minutes or so at a time), and is a toy that he is actually surprisingly effective at demonstrating hand-eye coordination on.

As to the drool factor, I've got a water/drool resistant case on my SGS2, as I do on my Dell Streak 7 (which is too big for him to interact on/with effectively anyway).

I figure that in moderation it's not doing him any harm, and the fact that it does appear to be helping with his hand-eye coordination is somethign that I am not going to ignore.

Correct, the only reason I'm not still using my first gen kobo is the fact I encountered the sql corruption bug one too many times (4 times in 3 years was enough) and I turfed it in favour of a kobo touch 4 months ago. I like the increased speed from the touch and the better interactivity the touchscreen afford, but ironically I am also not a fan of having to touch the screen to turn a page and much prefered the D button of the original for going back and forth from page to page.
