"One look at Apple's FRONT page says it all." That's http://www.apple.com/ I can't help it if the editors butcher my submissions. I had links to Apple.com, the iTunes Music Store, and the winning song in my submission, but they were cut.

  2. The front door.... on If Bad Software Developers Built Houses... · · Score: 1

I remember reading or hearing somewhere that new houses in tornado alley (in the US) have the house entrance doors built so that they swing outward. This is for when the tornados hit so that the pressure in the house can blow the doors open instead of the windows to equalize the pressure.

In the properties of the manual recording, I can then choose to start recording 4 minutes earlier (at 9:01). This way, I record both shows with no conflict on only 2 minutes extra TiVoing.

That's a humbling and true statement. Allow me to refine my point:

One of the arguments of the war protesters in this country is that we should be worrying about the problems here instead of across the globe. The problems they create with stunts like I mentioned before, they are just adding to the turmoil they want to remedy. Very hypocritical.

  10. Detrimental... on Web Site Hacks Rise as War Rages in Iraq · · Score: 2, Interesting

I'm not saying the protesters aren't entitled to their opinions. I'm just angry that the "hax0rz" are creating so much more work for th IT folks who have nothing to do with this war. Rallies in public places are fine. Creating gridlock and giving police a hard time is bad. Some of these people have no clue what they're protesting against and are just part of a flock rebeling against anything they deem evil. When I see these college and highschool kids protesting by blocking streets during rush hour or monopolizing the police (taking them away from REAL crimes) I just wish I could make their lives more difficult with more homework or something. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but for cryin' out loud, don't make others miserable trying to drive your point home.

  15. Another Attack on Microsoft takes on PDF · · Score: 1, Interesting
Microsoft (and Apple) went head to head against Adobe back in the font wars. PostScript vs TrueType. Guess which font format professional printers still use? Adobe is still years ahead of anyone else in this arena. The "paperless office". PDF is pretty entrenched, so I'd be suprised if this "XDocs" technology takes off.

Sparks flew during the question-and-answer period that followed, which became a defining moment for Warnock and Adobe. Warnock, by then quite upset, pointedly ignored Gates. "Warnock sat with his back to Gates, which was not easy to do when both were facing the audience," Romano says.

In repsonse to a question, Gates again claimed that TrueType's quadratic splines were far superior to PostScript's Bezier curves and that a single font for both screen and printer would set a new standard for desktop publishing for years to come.

When asked to comment, an emotional Warnock called Gates's explanation "the biggest bunch of garbage and mumbo jumbo" he'd ever heard. It was raw and uncensored, but Warnock's heartfelt statement resonated with many. "It was the most dramatic moment in Adobe's history," says Romano. "Everything Warnock built could have fallen apart that day."

"I was proud when John said, 'That's a bunch of mumbo jumbo,'" says Steve MacDonald. "I said, 'Good, John. Your voice is cracking, but good for you.'"

So now people will begin using OpenOffice. Why did Sun decide on this? It's stupid, let the OpenSource community do most of the work for you, and THEN charge for it; don't waste your own resources to do it. They will NOT make enough money to keep that project viable. They're trying to pull an Apple. Give them good software for free, only available on your OS, and they will come. Sun maybe had a shot at this before pulling the plug on Intel Solaris development. Not now. Apple is the only company that seems to get away with things like that.
