  1. Re:The option everyone's forgetting on NBC Universal Drops iTunes · · Score: 1

I agree totally. Option three is where I normally wind up, I just simply have too much going on to spend my time glued to the television. I do enjoy Battlestar Gallactica though, and have used iTunes to download a show if I happened to miss it.

However, the last time I tried this the verion of iTunes on my machine was failing to update and therefore couldnt play the show. My wife's computer was very choppy for some reason, possibly inferior hardware, but she had played several episodes before that ... so something was broken on the codec side. We eventually settled on a torrent ( not feeling so bad as we had paid for the damned show) , and after sorting out a player and codec to display the show, we got to watch it.

Having lived through this, NBC deciding to control how I can download the show doesnt bother me any more than iTunes controlling how I download the show. I don't see one action as any more or less evil and controlling than the other.

This is exactly correct. If I pay for the CD , why should it not work? Beyond the ability to share or lend to a friend, These things stop the game from just working for the person who actually paid for it. It seems that everything I purchase that isn't an online MMO type game is so screwed up that it refuses to run unless I hunt down every process on the box to proove to the game that I am not trying to make a copy. My intention is to play the game, so this is annoying. I end up downloading no-cd cracks every time, and I am tired of it.

When I can put in the disk, install the game, and "just play", then I will give my money for their efforts. Until then...

I don't understand why I should buy this game if I absolutely disagree with the conduct of the distributor. I have many games that I really like ( starcraft , etc) that i continually install on new machines, or mabe delete for a time and then put back when I feel like another round. If this game is that good, maybe I will want to play it again in several years. If the distributors insist on treating me as a potential criminal for the rights to view their content, then they can fail if I have anything to say about it. The price is too high for me, so I will continue playing Madden clones or reading books, or playing instruments, or riding skateboards and bikes. I have other things I can do, and not being willing to tolerate conduct that offends me is my option. If this concept gains steam with enough people, it is not the people's fault that the industry suffers. It is the industry's fault for treating their customers as theives.

I am similarly "boycotting" HD also, and so I agree with the parent. I am not just waiting for HD to be easily cracked, although that would be one solution to the problem. I am waiting for HD to do what it says it will do without being incredibly painful for me.

At this point in time, getting a full HD output takes hours of research between compatibility of components ( oh , this one is HDMI1.2, and your blue ray is 1.3 , sorry). I have a very hard time justifying spending my time and money to be treated like this. The continuing battle is forcing constant unannounced hardware changes that will not allow the spec to settle to the point that everything just works anytime soon.

When I spend my money on a monitor or TV that can display the full spec, the hardware to read the disc (either in my pc or just a stand-alone) and have a card in a PC that can handle the resolution, then why when I buy a disc does some arcane rule remove the ablility from all my hardware. If these rules stay in place because most people are willing to accept this, then I will just have less of my time lost on Hollywood dribble and get much better at playing guitar or painting.

Of course, once things become easily hacked I may come back around to being willing to watch as I can get my moneys worth out of the hardware, and that may allow me to consider purchasing some new gear. Until then, if my stuff is falsely limited in its capability, adn the industry insists on punishing me to stop some magical mystical entity, I will continue to not buy into the new cycle.

I wont even think of denying the existence of DWB. I just dont think it applies to this situation in any way. If the black man is pulled over for driving a more expensive car than an officer feels is allowed for the darkness of skin, and bogus crimes are invented for the reason of the investigation, DWB. If someone is driving slow enough (5 mph) that an officer can several times say or yell stop before having to give up on the idea of verbally controlling traffic, then a questioning may ensue. In this case, the cop may or may not have smelled weed, but he found it.

I have had issues getting pulled over and searched for my appearance when i was not dressed up to polic expectation.

I have seen people complain that they get followed through stores because of how they are dressed, and when asked to change their clothes to see if it is a racial thing, reply that they cant change how they were born. Now, the clothes you choose to wear and the race of you parents are entirely different issues, and I believe that you story is blurring these same lines.

There may have been a different level of tolerance for a different race of driver, but that is unproveable. If the city police force over time has shown systemic patterns of abuse, that will cause extra tensions. It seems that a lot of this is a person getting punished for the crime they committed.

btw, i am not always a fan of police, have seen and been punished by police on power trips, and do not believe that smoking pot is a crime ( driving while high maybe). I just cant fathom race being the only reason for this case.

i am confused on the aspect of race in this instance. Did the cops fail to check your wifes car for drugs because she is white, or did they fail to charge her with posession because there were no drugs in the car.

It seems that both people were punished fairly under current law. If you are smoking weed in your car and get caught, then expect to get a drug related or dui type of penalty. If you cause an accident, expect to get fines and court fees.

An accident is just that \, an accident. Smoking pot while driving requires significantly more intent.
