  1. Re:Disconcerting? on Teachers Know If You've Been E-Reading · · Score: 2

My normal experience from trying to actually show knowledge of a subject usually ends up running into an instructor with the attitude that you just presented. Instead of being allowed an opportunity to show/discuss my current understanding, I get treated as if I think I am a special little snowflake. Then I am told to prove it on the test, which I do. And then I am still forced into a bucket with the average groups. It is fun when the instructors are all so pissed off and jaded that they hate trying to pass knowledge on, and just despise their daily role. I understand the situation, as I have watched my wife grow from a very interested teacher of college level high school kids to someone who has burned out so badly that she is moving back to the corporate world. My current real life has me going back to college for a business degree, after 13 years in datacenter/sysadmin roles, and I am actually answering questions like what does a NIC do, what does http stand for, and which protocol is wireless? There are parts of the class that may be useful, but I am not getting my moneys worth from that nonsense.

I wouldnt call it anywhere close to perfect, and dont now if I would choose it if this wasnt already a huge installation, but the price is definitely right.

Of course the difference here is that twitter is just enabling someone to shout really loudly, but you only have to hear it if you ask to know what the person is saying. France may not have to filter, but the French people who dont want to see what people all over the world are saying may not want to tune in to a service like this.

This is perfectly stated. The constitution passed the granting of corporate charters to the states. Each corporation issued articles in a state, and got approval from teh state. They were most often used as a way to go into a large business for a specified time, and then get the money back out when done. Think digging canals or building bridges. The concept of undieing multinational corporations didnt really exist.

I would argue that the opportunity to abuse the "granted rights due to their nonliving status" has contributed to the mess we see today, and that if this opportunity suddenly disappeared, then the society and law-warping activities that we see today would end fairly quickly.

I have seen ( and been ) pulled over in large groups. Sometimes it takes some coordination, and sometimes a cop can just pull beside you and point, and just get several cars in a line. I always hope some asshole will try to run and distract the cop from the rest of us. The last time this happened to me was a pair of motorcycles that were using what would be deemed an illegal method of tracking speeds. They were over a hill/curve, and able to shoot the laser across yards on the inside of the curve. There was no way to see them. One guy would walk into the middle of the road ( two lanes each direction ) and just start pointing people onto a side street. I was amazed. He ran my records, and I am sure he wrote my name down, and then gave me a written warning and told me that the road was really 40MPH and the residents have been complaining. It was a great public education campaign.
