  2. Re:I still don't under stand....It Gets Worse on MS Pressuring NW Schools: Pay Up, Or Face Audit · · Score: 1

I don't think the point is with the audit itself. I think the schools are more concerned with the timetable... If their scholls are anything like the schools here in the midwest, hey are vastly understaffed, and likely made plans last September for things they only hope to get done before this May. Dropping everything just to perform an audit 'right now' just because MS wants to be a total ass is unacceptable. Going to court just to get a bit of a delay to give them some REASONABLE time to do an audit might have a chance. All it might take is a Judge disqualification (each side can get one no questions asked here) and a continuance or a reschedule of the appearance to get them enough time to get it done.

On another note, I think a better guide to schools accepting donated pc's would be to insist on them being formatted immediately upon delivery, or even before they are accepted. If they have the software and licence with them they can always be reinstalled before being put back into service. If they decide to install another OS later they can then skip the formatting step.

Actually, you are wrong about that. The reason the PAC money talks so loud is simply because 80% of the people are too LAZY to do anything more than bitch to their friends/family/co-workers/slashdotters/etc...

Your vote/voice DOES count. We had several examples of proof of that here in Missouri, USA in the April elections a couple of weeks ago. Most cities/towns and school boards had their elections for officers and guess what? There were close to 10, count 'em, TEN, of those races that came out in ties! In at least one of them, the participants did the right thing and let a coin flip decide the winner rather than go to the time and expense of having a special runoff election.

I realize that these elections don't have a large amount of voters, but that is beside the point. even in Presidential elections sometimes the margin is just a few hundred thousand votes. How many of you actually wrote a real letter or called your congress person to let them know you oppose this versus just moaning about it here?

Remember, your voice doesn't count if you don't speak up!

Am I reading the FAQ wrong, or is the CDROM drive useless under Linux on the PS2?? As I read it Sony is stating that even under Linux the drive will ONLY read PS and PS2 CD's... They specifically state that it won't read CDR's at all under Linux. Geez, just about all I ever use these days is CDR's. If so, does this only hold up for the built-in CD drive, or do they mean even network or USB attached drives can't use CDR's under Linux on the PS2???

I don't recall the author at the moment, but one of the founding fathers made a statement you need to think about. It goes something like:

"...Those who are willing to give up some liberties for a little safety and security deserve neither..."

Also, another refers to the cost of obtaining (or reobtaining) any freedom you have. Something along the lines of:

"...There is but one price for freedom...blood..."

This all implies that some Patriot at some point gave his very LIFE to obtain each and every liberty you have, and that you have the gall to stand there and say "it's not important to me or my friends, let em have it back" makes my blood boil...Maybe next time someone WON'T spill their blood for some liberty YOU want?

I am fom Missouri and can say with certainty that he got elected of his own accord. Mel Carnahan, who was elected governer after Ashcroft went to the Senate, served 2 terms as our gov, 'kinging' upon us the largest tax increase we ever got, after promising no taxes without a vote of the people. He then was running for senate, died in a plane crash, and on the virtual eve of the election, after it was legally FAR too late to put a replacement name on the ballot, they conned his widow (who never served in any elected role before) into saying she would serve as he would have. This netted her a ton of sympathy votes, and on election day a corpse on the ballot box beat a live person. Now Missouri has a DNC robot trolling the senate halls.

As always, different states have different laws on exactly what things can be included there, but I think that at least in quite a few you can't outright say you want 3mil as punishment to the offender, but you instead ask for 3mil for the pain and suffering you are enduring...same diff in your pocket(or more likely the attorney's pocket), but totally different on paper.

No. I don't buy books from the publisher generally. Consumers buy books from the retail outlets of some sort that the publisher sold them to. The publisher already got their money whether the book fits my needs or not. If I wanted an electronic book (which I despise the whole idea of) I would have purchased it in that format. If I ever obtain a printed book where some portion of the text is only on a CD I will return it ASAP and raise holy hell with everyone involved from the bookstore to the publisher to the author. I am not saying it should be illegal to publish a book in this extremey rude manner, but it should be CLEARLY and PROMINENTLY spelled out right on BOTH covers that pert of the book os ONLY on electronic media. Sorry to rant, but its akin to taking a crap and only finding out after its too late that there's no toilet paper!
