    Here's another take on it.....

    Perhaps if there wasn't such outrageous social inequality and we had ethical governments and financial institutions, perhaps these people wouldn't be depressed.

    Perhaps it is people who have no problems with things like .... wiping out half the species on the planet in the last 50 years, climate change, social inequality... Perhaps it is these people who have a personality flaw! Not the people who can't help feeling depressed in a world run by Trump, bankers and arms manufacturers.

    This is actually kind of interesting, because maybe they've actually discovered a scientific way of differentiating assholes from human beings.

    I can't see anything in this article suggesting it won't work in a standard microSD port. You should've quoted or linked the information to back up this claim. Why would the picture of the card have "MicroSD" on it if it doesn't work in a microSD port.... If it doesn't work in a MicroSD port wouldn't that make it not a MicroSD card ?

  4. Reading the article the only source seems to be some guys blog post which is currently (unsurprisingly) down.

    Estonia gave up its own currency in 2011 when it joined the EU.

    I really doubt after going through all that trouble, just 5 years later they'd be contemplating giving up the Euro and circulating their own currency.

    How can a building heated by "special stoves that burn wood chips" possibly have lower emissions than one using heating oil ?

    I'm all for fighting global warming ... but surely there's no wave a wood burning stove is going to be as efficient and clean as using heating oil.

    Correct.

    Every virus program is measured by its ability to quickly and effortlessly release updates to combat new threats, so who knows what new threats Kapersky might counter in a time of war.

    The major difference between the NSA and Russia is NSA will want every computer in the USA to keep functioning whereas in a time of war Russia would want every computer in the USA to stop functioning.

  8. Drought and flood are often connected to El Nino / La Nina events. Scientists don't fully understand the cycle and are even less sure of how climate change could affect it. However two could interact to produce weather patterns that are both unpredictable and unprecedented. Farmers rely on predictable weather patterns to run a profitable enterprise. So yes, farmers should be concerned.

    Creating an undocumented system, full of bugs wouldn't qualify as making myself redundant, that would be quite the opposite.

    "He Who Knows" only about some legacy project that has been round for decades and is full of antiquated technology that most people wouldn't be interested in.
    "He Who Knows" about antiquated technologies that no one is learning any more.

    The prime motivation for many who move on is that they like to work on green field projects, using the latest and greatest of whats available.

    On average I would say 29 months is about the time it takes to get a big green field project off the ground, released and developed to maturity.

    As a developer when asked what my goal will be in the company my answer is "to make myself redundant", for many interviewers it takes a moment for them to get it. I would say most of the time I achieve my goal well within 29 months at which point the project is ready to be handed to over to people who would have difficulty putting it together, but have enough skills to ride a mature project through the rest of its life time.

    You own it, you have to deploy it, keep it secure and keep it up to date.

    If your rational were true every cloud service out there would be failing, but instead there's a huge adoption.

    Anyhow the point of my comment is that Zuckerberg is a thief not a programmer. John Carmack is a legendary programmer, not a thief.

    Yes the suit is actually between companies... but the accusation is leveled at Carmack. The notion that a guy with his talents needs to steal code is completely absurd.

    However, not really anything that will differentiate it substantially to make it the next big thing. I think the primary cause of the failure of Windows Phone was the fact that Nokia simply didn't produce hardware as sexy as Apple's or Samsung's, in fact I would describe the first Nokia Windows phones in comparison to the iPhone or Samsung offerings at the time as bricks.

    *COUGH* The part about Turkey hating ISIS isn't all that true. The main force confronting ISIS are the kurds and Turkey is more worried about the Kurds than ISIS. If you look at Turkeys actions they could be viewed as supporting ISIS

    Anyone who uses Windows Media Center will definitely not want to upgrade to Windows 10 as Windows 7 is the last version Microsoft shipped with this great program.

    Of course Microsoft everyone using Windows Media Center to get an X-Box. I'd more likely keep my old pc, it's tv-tuners and use XMBC with NextPVR.

    Microsoft keeps making decisions which seem desperate and ill thought out.
