We all die alone. Whether he was enjoying the last moments of life or not, he was at least enjoying life up to that point. That's the point the previous poster was trying to make.
We all go through the death process by ourselves; no one else in this world can help us on that journey.
Should have wired up about 10 computer case fans to the radiator. Then if you lose one you wouldn't be out of cooling power.:)
I had a computer failure in my car in college which kept the cooling fan in the OFF position. That was fun. I just ran a hard wire to a fuse and let the fans run 24x7 while the key was on. Later, once the computer finally died, the repair tech was nice enough to cut my wire so that the normal operation was restored.
Of course, it's possible I burnt up the computer by doing that. Not likely, but possible.
I know it may be out of your price range, but Fluke sells AnalyzeAir - neato little spectrum analyzer that can tell you where and what is causing your interference.
It'll sometimes even pick the brand of the interfering device (cordless phones, microwaves) out of the air for you! Handy in isolating and making wireless friendly (hint: get work to buy it and research some at home...)
I don't think having a low windshield wiper fluid sensor would be that hard - had a friend with a Dodge Dakota (99ish) that had the feature. Also, we've got sensors for: 1. Low fuel 2. Low oil (pressure based?) 3. Low Radiator fluid 4. Low transmission fluid 5. Low brake fluid
All of these are on my 99 Grand Marquis.
I'm guessing it wouldn't be that hard to put a float in for the windshield washer fluid. Could look similar to the float in the brake reservoir (perhaps a little longer..)
Actually, my thoughts on the Playstation controller is that it was an evolution of the Super Nintendo controller. Added 2 buttons to create l2 and r2 and wham, PS1 controller.
Then along came the analog sticks. And then rumble. Then on the PS2, pressure sensitive (actually worked out well in games like solid snake 2 or something I can't remember...)
One of the reasons I text is that there are some people I'd rather not talk to. Like the friend that would talk your ear off for 2 hours when you really just wanted to say "see you tomorrow" or something.
Funny you mention some software not liking the hibernation mode:
I use Windows XP at work, and when I have Excel or Word open with a file across the network, it's about a 50-50 shot whether it will hibernate properly. Now, I understand the reasoning behind this (can't keep a file lock if the machine doesn't have contact with the file) but there's got to be a better way. Maybe a.bak save and then restore from that on resume???
Actually, that's a good rule for any starting or small business.
Have a friend who sold a phone switch with the user's intent of paying in small doses. Typically in these scenarios I've seen it drag on and on and on (wife subsidized someone's down payment on the car, with the same result.) He eventually went back and ripped out the phone switch after 4 months of non-payment - in addition to his time driving 20 + miles to attempt to get payment (multiple trips, the customer lied about having the payment.)
My golden rule when it comes to finances anymore - unless it's a good investment or something for personal use (my vehicle) never ever get into a payment scheme with someone. Of course, this shouldn't always apply, for there are some businesses I'm sure can cover a payment just fine - but for personal items, if you don't have the cash, it's typically not a good idea to borrow against your own debt. Credit cards follow this same line.
Had a co-worker a long long time ago (right when CD Burning became available to the consumer at a decent price) who stated that every copy of a CD made degraded the quality.
So I wrote on my white board alternating ones and zeros. Then below it I slightly degraded the ones and zeros. After about 4 iterations you couldn't tell the ones and zeros apart.
If the school's athletic department has a rule akin to "no smoking or drinking, or you're not playing" rule then there could be punishments (not being allowed to play.) I know there were always some pretty harsh punishments for smoking on school grounds when I went to school. While there will always be drinking and such going on in certain high school crowds, I'd say the onus is on the individual to not get their picture taken...
I know you said "in a pinch" you've used wh/br-br pairs; however per spec you should use the blue-blue/white pairs. That way if you put it down in a regular keystone jack to spec the phone will appear on the middle pairs. Plug in computer and get 100mbps goodness - plug in phone and get dial tone.
Of course, if you're seperating into 2 seperate jacks it's kind of a pain that way - but if you wire it using the blue/white-blue AND the white-brown/brown pairs put down in proper phone configuration you can get a 2 line phone and network jack (again, only 100mbps for 'net) out of it. Copper isn't that cheap and sometimes you don't have options - I always recommend running the extra wire. If you're running one, usually running two is not that much of a problem.
Your ipod nano is most certainly not playing a 1080p stream. Smaller encodes (320x240??? not sure of the nano screen) would probably work, which is why you have the option.

These seriously increase my enjoyment of concerts, especially when 10 rows back from the speakers. Bought a set for my wife as well - and I haven't had ringing ears from a concert since!
People will take the time to download DVDs and HD-DVD rips at 8-10 gigabytes a piece, but people won't download uncompressed audio?:( I weep for this.
If I get it in my mind to download something, I always attempt to find the.flac version first. Why? Well, I recently got into American Hi-Fi. Unfortunately, the only mp3s of their 2001 self-titled album were all encoded by older encoders @ 128kb/s. Wouldn't be a bad thing, but have you ever heard the Blade encoder @ 128? It's horrible.
Found someone who had the.flac. Much, much better. In turn, I bought all 3 albums. I will weep for the day we can no longer download/buy uncompressed audio.
Yay. So even if their music ends up being decent (unlike their latest release) it could sound bad. ugh. I know it's against the rules to like Metallica for all of their BS throughout the years, but some of their music is good....
Foo Fighter's "One by One" appears to have the same issue. On certain mp3 players, the problem is highlighted even more - my creative jukebox zen xtra really has trouble with it being so "compressed" - and even compressed to FLAC I can tell that there's nothing I can do about this album having such a high noise content.
Their latest album appears to have done slightly better; however it would be nice to return to sonic fidelity, as the harder tracks could definitely utilize this to their advantage.
My 1995 Z28 did get 30mpg on the highway in sixth gear over the course of 400 miles. So yes, they can get that kind of milage. Of course, city-wise is a whole different story...
Seems everyone here has to prove everyone else wrong because they think their (cars, computers, OSes) are pieces of shit. Lame.
I was speaking with my wife about this - it seems that there are so many lights in use when people are doing this light control stuff at christmas that it doesn't "feel" like the lights always line up with the music.
800x600 = 480,000 lights - reasonable for a 4x3 display on the front of my house. Now to get the money together. Anyone have a clue as to what type of controller / interface you'd need for something like this? I know Nine Inch Nails had a "light curtain" that could be programmed to show video and anything else....

That would suck to lose a finger in that situation. You're right though, worse things could happen.
If your bosses' life was detached, at least he could spend time on the earth looking for delicious brains. mmm... brains.

In the case of pornography, you just need to touch the button. Multiple times. Faster and faster.

Sounds like you bought the wrong Ford ;) 100k miles on a Grand Marquis and it's only ever spent 2 days in the shop.

So it must be true!
I'll bet your wife has a link to slashdot to tailor to you too :)
Actually, I think what your wife does is pretty amazing though. Not many people would take their responsibility to the kids that far.
