I recently bought a mid-line Clarion mp3-cd player. If you buy a sirius unit to attach to it, it hooks right into the stereo via a unique cable (+ rca's?) so that you can use the Clarion head unit to view and control the satellite receiver.
Not the most simple solution, but definitely a decent one that doesn't require something hanging off of your dash to use the satellite radio.
How would tuning and decoding one station of music + data be any different than having to tune into the satellites that transmit time info for the GPS to work?
I don't think it is anything different. They both work on the principle of one-way communication. While the GPS signal is definitely of a lower bandwidth, I could still see Satellite Radio being able to use smaller receivers.
I guess my counter-point to that is that in some aspects of life, people have to "follow rules because they're told to". Not everybody on this earth can be a jack of all trades...:)
On the other hand, less smart people, like those who upgrade from Windows 1.0 to Windows Longhorn religously because MS told them so
How does someone following an upgrade path make someone less smart?
Sure, it might make them less smart about computers. But computers aren't everything.... A friend's father is probably one of the smartest people I know, and that is not because he's "book" smart, but he's very smart about how to live... whether it be his personal relationships or money etc.
It all depends on your perspective. I've actually followed these bands - at least through their respective CD releases, and as I get older I've found that when I find a band's CD that I like, I generally try to find more of their work, since usually a band's sound and/or musicianship is pretty linear from album to album.
A large portion of my music purchases are to hear songs that a particular artist who I think is "good" has put out in the past. More often than not, I'm pleasantly suprised. Contrast that with something like Metallica, who has changed their sound slightly over the years, to their latest album, which I think sounds like utter trash.
Oh - an additional note - I usually listen to music for the music, and not necessarily for the lyrics. Being that I enjoy playing my own music, I love to hear things that different musicians do different. Even some of the more pop-ish music is decent, since it hooks you in on a melodic note...
Everyone's opinion is their own, of course, but I plan on buying music in CD (or better) form until the day I die. And it'll go right to my for personal listening at work and in the car.
Electricity through a short can cause a lot of heat.
I once (in my college days) wired up an "extension" cord for my radar detector... out of speaker wire.
Note to everyone. Do not use speaker wire to carry high current.
Anyways, long story short, the cable at some point shorted somewhere in the middle. Burnt a nice hole in my carpet of my "new-to-me" car (in the shape of the cord lying on the mat) and burnt the hell out of my hand as I tried to remove the cable/end from the lighter plug.
Apparently, the fuse never blew, because there was enough resistance through the hot wire to keep the amperage in check...
One of the big problems I have is not so much that my equipment in the house is down, but that the cable modem repeaters are down. When the power goes out, even though all of my telco equipment/network equipment is powered up (6+ hours on the backup solution I currently have in place), I still have no internet access....
However, if they do send out seperate power lines to the cable repeaters, it could still work. Our lines are overhead though, so they could still get screwed up pretty badly... we had a recent ice storm over the holidays that took out a lot of power in our area (Columbus, OH) and I imagine the cable modems/cable service was screwed up as well...
Keep in mind that Fast Forward still requires a line into your house, which for me just makes it a convenience item, and not a full land line replacement...
But if you already have a cell phone plan, even the cheap plans give you free nights and weekends...
This means you could use your cell phone after 9pm (or whatever the time is) to make calls, and then get a cheaper plan for VOIP since you'll only be using it during the other hours (6-9pm) that you'll be home.....
Proprietary is right. It's a 10 year old phone switch, and the phones are digital, not analog -- I'm assuming they're using some hacked form of ISDN signalling protocol.
When I was doing computer support, it was fun to walk into an executive's office and smell burnt electronics -- they'd try to plug their analog modem into the digital circuit, and it would fry the modem.
Our phone switch doesn't actually play the DTMF tones; it just gives a short "beep" to let you know you've entered a digit....
On the other hand, it does show up on the display, though, so I'm sure some of the more creative people could just pick up a random phone, hit redial, and watch the numbers fly by, noting that certain combinations of numbers aren't passwords (3337 skips through a message and erases it) etc.
You can't very well do whatever you want with that. Just because the car is capable of going 120mph doesn't give you the right to do so.
Actually, you have a right to drive a car as you wish on either:
1. Privately owned roads (by you). 2. Roads that are built by someone who has given you permission to drive on them.
Now, that being said, I can drive 120mph on my driveway if I want to. Barring the fact that my driveway is only 100ft long, and I can't get my car to 0-120-0 in that amount of time..... The license you pay for (driver's licence and car licnese) gives you permission (not the right) to drive it on public roadways, adhering to the laws that govern those roads.
So, technically you don't need a license for your car, or yourself. You just then can't use the resources the government has put together for people who would like to get from point a to point b in a safe and civilized manner... (civilized being a whole other conversation alltogether....)
Listen to RCs Mom by The Dead Milkmen.
1. Put the torrent up on a new server.
2. Post a link here, I'd be interested in listening.
hmmmm.
Mine isn't a specific solution, but here goes.

Really?

Now this deserves mod points....
Wow.
With so many enemies, I'd hate to be your friend.

Color this mechanical engineer disappointed.
So, what, fuscha?
My parents only gave me the 64 color crayola set.
Didn't you know? Everything is better hot "with cheese"....
I think I like making comments for people to laugh at here better than I like to make "insightful" comments....
Glad to know I can share my twisted humor with everyone!

Nope, didn't work. Roof is still tender.

Quick! Erase that white board!!!!
