Scientists around the world have already cloned mice and various livestock, but the Texas cat would be the first cloned companion animal.

Clearly these cats are being cloned to eat all of the cloned mice they've been making... I guess they'll be cloning rotweillers to take care of the cats, Hatchbacks to take care of the rottweilers, SUV's to take care of the Hatchback, Semis...

  7. Is copy protection of CD's a violation of DMCA? on Philips Says Compact Discs Can't be Copyprotected · · Score: 1
We were reminded a couple of weeks ago on slashdot that there is a tax on digital media. The revenue from this tax goes to the RIAA and maybe others. One purpose of taxation is to discourage a particular behavior (one reason taxes are so high on tobacco). So, basically the federal government endorsed a copy protection scheme by making the media more expensive. By circumventing this scheme and replacing it with their own scheme, record companies are violating the DMCA!

Now if you're a reasonable person, you're saying "that's nuts!" because the end result is the content is not copied. This presumes that the record company's protection scheme is better than the government's scheme. The DMCA would certainly prevent replacing a more secure coppy protection scheme with a lesser one(even though technically the material was still secure, just not as secure). So record companies fiddling with the government's copy-protection is clearly prohibited under the DMCA.

  10. This is sort of stupid on Convert Movies From R to PG13 to PG On The Fly · · Score: 1
Whenever Judge Dredd came out, a coworker who had a five-year-old was thinking about taking him to see it. Judge Dredd for those of you fortunate enough not to remember this movie was rated R. I'm not sure what a G-Rated version of Judge Dredd would look like, I guess anyone who got killed, would just magically vanish from the movie. My point being that removing the scenes of violence does not remove the violent theme of the movie.

For years MTV has been editing videos, selectively removing content it deemed inappropriate. Racism pervades MTV's editorial policy. Consider a couple of examples where one standard was applied to a video by a white artist, and another standard was applied to a video by a black artist. Coolio's"Gangster's Paradise" has the lyric "Got my ten in my hand and a gleam in my eye" MTV presented the video with this content unmodified. The song "Santeria" features the lyric "Daddy's got a new 45," the word 45 was bleeped out. These songs came out at the same time, but were subjected to different editorial review. The other example is Tom Petty can't sing about rolling a joint , but Snoop Doggy Dog can sing about drinking and driving

Ultimately, the solution is this, if you determine that a film has offensive content in it, don't watch the film.
