In a rural setting, one expects quiet, in an urban setting one expects noise. Consequently put a turbine inthe country and people will complain about the noise, put one in the city, and they probably won't notice the noise.
I guess you didn't see the remake of King Kong? Having made that obvious joke, I agree, there is something about the Empire State Building that is more evocative than the WTC. Clearly the WTC was an irresistible human and financial target.
They would not have necessarily aborted the fetus. They would have had a better opportunity to prepare for the different set of challenges that having a child with Down's Syndrome would present.
It's a test to determine the risk of Downs Syndrome. This test is done to see if the risk of doing amniocentesis(which can kill the fetus) is warranted. Just to dispel the rumor, people are interested in knowing that a baby is going to have downs syndrome for lots of reasons, not just to abort the fetus. Knowing ahead of time gives parents an opportunity to make plans(for instance, daycare may not seem as good an option).
If you spray paint your local Wal Mart, they can still do business, MafiaBoy cost the websites he attacked money, not just for repairing the "grafitti" also for the lost customers while their sites were down.
Let's say Amazon spends 100 million last year, and took in 101 million in revenue excluding the donation "revenue" They would owe taxes on 1 million dollars. add a million to revenue, ans a million to expenses, they still owe taxes on a million dollars(their ACTUAL profit). If you are going to be stupid, please don't be anonymous, so that your Karma will relect your stupidity!
Tetris and MineSweeper. Both games can be played relying solely on luck, but players will see the benefit of planning their next move in short order. Mah-Jongg is also a good game, but kids might find it boring.
The arguments presented are the same as one might see when comparing GUI to CLI based OS. Obviously the CL has some place in the world, even Apple is bringing it back, but for most typical uses, the GUI is sufficient. In the end, in a new program, a GUI helps you learn how to use it. As you become more sophisticated, the CLI lets you do more.
The iviews site seems like a strange choice, if you dig deeper on the site, it is clearly anti-Israeli. Its there right to be anti-Israeli, but when they let their bias spread to their news, its ceases to be news and becomes merely commentary. Certainly there were better sources that could have been referenced(the person who actually posted it found one). Next time wait for someone who is not biased to submit the story with links to legitimate news sites.
Drug patents delay innovation. Consider Prozac, a drug which help revolutionize the treatment of depression. Recently, the company's patent expired, opening the way for cheaper generics. If you've been watching those annoying drug company ads on TV, you may have seen an ad for a Prozac that can be taken just once a week. This drug would have a new patent, that will expire in several years. It seems too great a coincidence that as the company's patent for a drug was expiring, they finally figured out how to make the drug more convenient to take.
Given that some people who need to be on Prozac may not be able to remember to take the drug every day (at least initially) it seeems immoral for the company to delay the introduction of Prozac Weekly until the original patent expires, this may have actually harmed people!
Drug companies should have an opportunity to recoup the cost of research, but the cost of this opportunity should not be the health of patients.
Americans don't realize what a technological backwater we live in. & years ago I went to europe, they had replaced most pay phones that took coins with pay phones that took smart cards, the French phone book was on minitel, as were train schedules. When we went out to eat, the waiter brought the Credit Card machine to our table! At this point in America, the internet was just taking off.
Some of this sucked, you had to know where to go to get a phone card, and there were no phone books in the phone booths, so I had to use my barely passable French and get phone numbers from the operator. But for people who lived there, and had access to these technologies, I imagine they simplified matters.
I guess this might be offtopic, but since we are talking about how the government can help people get access to technology, this seems sort of appropriate.
For about a quarter the federal government will deliver a message from you to another individual. The message can contain pictures and/or text. Correct delivery is insured by using "ZIP" protocol(5 or 9 digit near GUID). For international messages, a slightly higher delivery cost will apply.
My real name is the same as a celebrity who has a awebsite, so I'll never have my own.com! What if my last name were McDonald's and I had a Family owned business that had been around for decades. I wouldn't be able to get a website with my business name, because some stupid restaurant got the domain name first...that sucks! I guess Gerald Ford was right...
I'm not sure this applies, but the double effect rule is used to justify euthanizing terminally ill patients. The rule is this it is ethical to pursue a therapy that could lead to the death of a terminal patient if the therapy has some benefit to the patient. An example would be increasing the morphine dose to manage pain, which could cause death. In the case of stem cell harvesting, it seems that if the embryos were created with another purpose in mind, and they are no longer needed for that purpose(and hence would be destroyed) that it is ethical to extract stem cells from these embryos.
Consider the syphilis experiments that were done for 30 years in Alabama with federal oversight. The victims of this research were considered expendable. It took the federal governmwnt nearly thirty years to apologize. There is also a certain irony to Republicans pointing to the benefits of federal oversight, since they seem to be against it in most cases.
War is not about who's right, it's about who's left.

Since you are a man (I guess), you'll never have to make the choice.
You are thinking of Autism!
