  1. no surprise on Adults Love Video Games · · Score: 1

Kids have a lot of responsibilities and have parents that enforce those responsibilities, such as school and homework and "family time" or whatever they do now-a-days. I have several friends who are unemployed that sit there and play video games all day long and they're all around 22 - 24 years old. Even me and all my other friends who ARE employed enjoy playing video games every chance we get.

Another thing that might make adults more likely to play games is the fact that they do have jobs.. and they do have money (sometimes).. so they can purchase the consoles and video games.

  2. Good news on IE7 Separated from Windows Explorer · · Score: 1

It's about time. This should help with security, I would think. I wonder if they'll be able to keep the functionality the same across the board... whats going to happen when you type C:\Windows into IE - or www.google.com into Explorer? eh n/m I'm sure they thought of that...

  3. Linux? on PS3 - Lateness With Linux? · · Score: 1

I wonder how easy it will be to soft-mod a PS3 through Linux, so that it can boot burned games.

  4. Better than 360? on PlayStation 3 Delay Official · · Score: 1

Maybe by the time the PS3 comes out it'll be the next-next-gen Console. They've had an extra year to work on it, so if it's not way better than the xbox360, they failed. They can't come out with a system that's just as good as the 360 when they've had so much more time to work on it. I think the biggest selling point of the ps3 is their exclusive games, such as GTA and Final Fantasy (although FFXI is coming out for xbox360).

  5. What is the deal on Bully Gets In Trouble With School · · Score: 2, Insightful

Who cares? I mean.. come on. When are people going to realize that games are just that.. games.. not real life. Who cares if you beat the crap out of some nerd on a video game. Unless that video game is controlling some robot on the other side of the earth that is really beating the crap out of some kid, it's harmless!

  6. It finds what I need on Accoona - How Does This Search Engine Rate? · · Score: 1

Slightly offtopic - does anyone have any information on how Google ranks pages? I've read this page which has some really good information in it, but does anyone know of any other guides on search engine optimization with google?

  7. get norton on McAfee Anti-Virus Causes Widespread File Damage · · Score: 1

Geez, don't they have any QA testing that they put their definitions through before deploying it to the mass population? There must be several large companies that are "protected" by McAffee, and certain companies will sue in a heartbeat if they had several important documents wiped out. They're going to lose a lot of customers, too. I've used norton anti-virus for a few years now and I haven't even had one file get corrupt from them.

  8. i thought it was good on Black Review · · Score: 1

I think this game was really good, although I do agree that the plot was really weak. Maybe the PS2 version isn't as good, but the Xbox one that I played had really good graphics, IMO, and the physics and everything felt fine. It was a pretty short game, but I found it fun playing it a second time on Hard. I think it had 8 levels total, but each level is really REALLY long. I played one level on black ops (the difficulty past Hard) and it's cool because you get unlimited ammo and you always start with a silver M4 with a m203 grenade launcher =).

  9. yeah right on Yet Another Violent Games Ban · · Score: 1

I doubt this will make it very far. There are plenty of mature adults in Tennessee, I'm sure, that enjoy sitting down to a game of GTA or something. I could see them making it a state-law that you must be over 18 to purchase a game like that, but banning them completely? I'd have to see it to believe it. That would be enough reason for me to move out of state, if I lived there (I like my video games!).

  10. Whats wrong with the hardware? on Time With The Revolution · · Score: 1

The gamecube hardware wasn't bad, they just didn't have any very appealing games. Nintendo has definitely taken a new look at their software and I think their next system is going to blow away the Gamecube (same hardware or not). They have announced a lot of very cool looking games for all of their systems, recently, so I think they're taking a step forward (or backwards, in a way) when it comes to games, and are going to make a new name for themselves.

  11. Duh on Movies Losing Popularity at Box Office · · Score: 1

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that movies cost 9 dollars now to go see, and no new movie is worth 9 dollars, period. Then you have to put up with a ton of crap while you're there (mainly other people). It is pretty surprising that they didn't mention piracy, though. The MPAA and RIAA love to blame pirates for their problems.

  12. lame on The New Face of Script Kiddiez · · Score: 4, Interesting

i find it rather funny that all these bot-net owners are getting so much publicity right now. The washington post recently had another article about another botnet owner. this is nothing new. people have been exploiting various networks and running botnets for at least a decade (that I'm aware of). these new botnets aren't any larger than the ones back in the day, either. in fact exploiting systems back then was way easier since security wasn't nearly as important to many people and firewalls were pretty rare. either way, ITS LAME

  13. It's ok on Windows Live Search goes Live · · Score: 1

The very first submission I put in resulted in an ASPX error page. How funny. It's working now but is slow. This might be nice if they get rid of those errors and speed it up. It certainly wouldn't be able to handle googles traffic in it's current state.

  14. NO! on Is Visual Basic a Good Beginner's Language? · · Score: 1

Use C#. VB won't teach you anything except how to write ugly code. C# is a very easy language to use and almost seems more intuitive, to me, than VB. It will also teach you how to maintain a C/C++ style structure to your code and C/C++ style syntax. C# also resembles java pretty closely. You will have a much easier time learning those other languages (C/C++/Java) if you learn C#, rather than VB (which doesn't resemble any standard language, at all, except MAYBE delphi/pascal... two other proprietary programming languages). VB will just confuse the hell out of you when you decide to learn a new language.

  15. Sony needs to kill it on Future Plans for SWG? · · Score: 2, Insightful

I think Sony needs to kill off the SWG game. Maybe, if LucasArts gives the rights out, someone will build a good MMORPG out of the star wars universe. Using Star Wars as a MMORPG is a great idea, and Sony did an OK job of it. But "Sony Station" is a big piece of crap that's ran by immature moderators. I would like to play that game again, but won't as long as Sony has control of it.

  16. Migration on A .Net 2.0 Migration Strategy? · · Score: 5, Informative

I do have experience migrating several smaller .net 1.1 apps to 2.0, but nothing even close to this scale. I will give you as much information from my experiences as possible, and hopefully it'll be of some use to you.

The WinForms upgrade wizard worked pretty much flawlessly for each application I converted over, the trickiest part was setting up Source Control, and it was more of a problem with the source control solution we used (SourceGear). Good source control system once it's setup, but a real pain in the ass until then. There were 3 or 4 fairly large projects and a ton of small ones that all converted without a problem.

Not sure if you're using the web stuff or not, but that was where I had the most problems. The Web upgrade wizard is far from perfect. You should at least install the latest version of it from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Fa milyID=7cecd652-fc04-4ef8-a28a-25c5006677d8&Displa yLang=en

That version has fixed several issues I had, but also seemed to introduce a few new ones (or it was a cascading problem, that resulted in different errors when the originals were fixed). I've had to do a lot of tweaking on many aspx pages to get it to find the Code Behind and there were a couple projects that I had to re-assign all my event bindings with, for some reason, although that was with the old version of the conversion wizard so that is probably fixed.

If SQL is being involed in this upgrade procedure, that was a much harder process to get migrated. Tables, Views and Stored Procedures migrate fine and the Reporting Services reports migrated over.. ok (though VS2005).. but the HUGE hassle is analysis service, if you use that, don't expect it to migrate very easily. DTS stuff was pretty easy to migrate over.

Anywhere, theres my memory dump. Hope that helps in some way.

I've been playing with the Microsoft Office Live beta and am wondering how similar this is. Can you use custom domain names with it? That'll be really funny if this service has the same features as Office Live.. cuz it's free.. and google.

I've been testing this OneCare program and I gotta admit - it's really nice. Who knows how well it works, but the interface is slick and it takes less resources than Norton does. The only thing I wuold like to see is a registry cleaner built into it - if they do that, I will definitely buy it.

  20. true dat on The Worth of the GTA Franchise · · Score: 1

This is true, but I kind of thought the same thing after GTA 2. I figured since GTA 1 and 2 were already so controversial they would never be able to top themselves and if they did, they wouldn't be able to use good graphics to do it. I was proven wrong when GTA3 came out. At first I wasn't too accepting of the new GTA series, but after playing it for a while I loved it! GTA:SA goes down in my book for the best game ever. But it is definitely time for a major revamp of their engine - particularly the way it renders stuff and the poly count. I'm sure they won't cease to amaze on their next creation.

The flashy javascript comment was sarcasm. You're absolutely right about flashy websites sucking, but they really could build a much nicer website with some simple HTML and CSS. No javascript or images are needed, really (except maybe their logo and their story icons).

  25. Tag & Rename on An Accurate ID3 Tag Database? · · Score: 5, Informative

Unfortunately Tag & Rename is shareware, but it's a GREAT application. You can select a whole list of mp3s and have it search for the albums on Amazon.com and automatically generate ID3 tags. I've done my entire collection of 150 albums in a couple of hours (I believe you have to do one album at a time). The link is http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

By the way, there is another program that IS freeware that does the same thing with amazon.com, but I can't remember the name :/
