  5. Big deal... on Vista is Watching You · · Score: 1

I really don't see what the big deal is. It sounds like the most identifying thing they're capturing is your IP address and this is really no different than going to Google.com or something (other than the fact that you KNOW your IP is being captured there). Your IP address isn't a big secret, it's captured by possibly hundreds or thousands of places daily. They say Microsoft COULD come knocking on your door, but it also says in their EULA that it won't be used for "Identifying or Contacting" you, so Microsoft is restricted to their own rules. They COULD, but WON'T come knocking... Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, they can't do a lot with an IP address without doing some major research to find your personal info.

Wow, I did the same exact thing when I was in High School. I made a Duke Nuke 3d map of my high school, complete with Video Cameras in the Gym Teachers room that looked into the girls locker room and everything. It was pretty accurate, too. I had all the class rooms (some weren't accessible) and I began working on a mod that would have allowed you to "light up a smoke" in the park outside the school (i think it consisted of retexturing a weapon and then binding it to a special key, or something... and i believe my "retexturing" was done in MS Paint :)...

  8. too long? on The Myth of the 40 Hour Game · · Score: 1

My complaint is similar (but opposite). I hate games that are too short, and in fact, with Tomb Raider Legend I ended up beating that game in probably 20 hours. It seems like almost every game out there now is so short... the ones that give you challenge modes and stuff when you beat it (Ninja Gaiden Black for example) are the best. I spent quite a while beating Ninja Gaiden, but to have countless hours worth of challenge mode games opened up after that made it even better.

  14. They should stick to AV equipment on Why Sony is Ready to Self Destruct · · Score: 1

They really should stick to making stereos, dvd players and TVs, if not close up shop completely. It looks like their PS3 is going to be a failure (at least in comparison to the PS2) and none of their other departments are doing anything right either. Between their ps3, their root kits, and their crappy Sony Station service (for mmorpgs) I think they could definitely be on the verge of self destruction, which I wouldnt mind seeing. They brought it upon themselves and pissed off a lot of customers in the process, including myself.

  17. Both are classics on Half-Life Beats Half-Life 2 Over Time? · · Score: 1

I believe Half life 2 is going to be a classic, much like Half Life 1 is now. Both were fantastic games, but HL1 had less to compete with and was more impressive at the time. I think HL1 will definitely be a longer-lived hit than HL2, but not because of lack of quality in HL2. Counter-strike was a major driving force behind HL1, and I hate to say it, but CS is old-school. It doesn't have the same appeal as it once did. Unless HL2 gets a similar mod created for it, that just blows every other online game away, I can't imagine it being quite like HL1.

The writer doesn't sound like he knows much about the modding capabilities in HL2, either.

Also, the dreamcast was able to play backups without a mod chip... that was THE reason I got one.

Interesting - I figured there probably were a few (that's why i said "almost unheard of"), but haven't actually played any for a console. Of course I've played several arcade lightgun shooters.. house of the dead was a great game, but the main problem with that is that it is an arcade game, instead of a console game.. you have to pay per play and you have to leave your house to do it. If this game ends up being good, and Nintendos lightgun implementation is good.. this could revolutionize the way future FPS's and consoles are built.

It's not JUST a freaking light gun game. It's a light gun first person shooter, which is almost unheard of. I'm pretty sure that the "Next Gen Duck Hunt" and Halo-Killer could be one in the same, if the game is built right. This looks REALLY fun, and I think it has the potential to be a lot funner than any traditional FPS that I've played. There hasn't been a whole lot of change in FPS gameplay for years, this might be just what it needs.

How hard could it be to create a player that has BluRay and HD-DVD support built into one? It would probably need two lasers and two decoders but seriously, how hard could that be? It seems like if every player had support for both, the issue of BluRay vs HD-DVD would be moot. It would be up to the studios to decide which format they use, but the consumer wouldn't even need to know the difference. With a universal player, you wouldn't even have to know which disk format you have and since the disks look the same (unlike BetaMax vs VHS) there will be no confusion.
