Why in the world would anybody not want 99% of the people they send/receive emails to/from to be able to read them?? You're only hurting yourself, I'm sure Microsoft isn't quivering at all because of this.
According to this guys' email, his server limits IRC clients that are windows based. This doesn't seem like it would be harming Microsoft, but instead hurting mIRC and pirch and other similar windows clients.
This guy seems like he just needs to take the stick out of his ass and realize that nobody gives a crap about this stupid limiting function.
I know a lot of ppl in the warez scene so yes they do steal software, but the fact is they wouldn't give two cents for it in the real world, so therefore the companies aren't losing anything from us... errr them:p.
im going to storm up to washington kick in bill gates door and beat him over the head with a shovel. then ill put on his glasses and take over microsoft....
This is kinda hypothetical.. but if I were to purchase a monitor and say it was real fuzzy or something and I wanted to ship it back to the manufacturer, and it ended up looking like this computer.... who would pay for the damages?
Rainbow 6 might not be a Strategy Game by genre, but it definitely requires real strategy. It's not the same thing as Command and Conquer or Star Craft, obviously, but it is a game that makes you really think. You lay out all of your strategies at the beginning of each level and work with them during the game. The game has a real slow gameplay, but it definitely is fun.
not that i dont like xmms, but winamp has been around for a long time and they have kept their software pretty legit. Their decoders are probably a lot better than xmms's too, just because they have been so perfected over the years.
as for playlist control, i dont how well winamp3 will be with that. if you go to fileplanet.com you can actually download the winamp3 alpha (for windows), it is NOTHING like the current versions of winamp, they changed everything.
I'm not sure if this is actually open source, but I do believe it is free as in beer. I have pondered migrating all of our employees off of the Microsoft Office Suite, and moving them to Star Office, which is, in my opinion, a very good equivilent.
I haven't looked into this too much, but if I'm wrong, and star office DOES cost money, god knows it'll still be cheaper than microsoft licensing.
Since all this crap on Tuesday, we have lost a ton of rights! This is possibly the worse. All the rights we have lost have to do with Privacy. The government even admitted to having recorded cell phone calls, for christ sakes. Also, the air ports are going to be a bunch of BS. I don't think we should let the events from Tuesday go without any changes, but the fact is, there is no such thing as total security, and the government needs to realize this.
Having one universal key for the government is going to cause a ton of trouble. All it's going to take is one "l33t hax0r" and we're all screwed. And, equally important, I don't want the government having one fucking byte of my data! They have no right seeing what I do on the internet... I don't care if those terrorists destroyed 3/4 of the USA, I will never willfully give the government (or anybody else for that matter) access to any part of any of my computers.
If this isn't an invasion of our privacy, I don't know what is. I hope nobody will stand for this. PROTEST THIS CRAP. This is BS!
Yeah I agree caveman. There are some total dicks on slashdot.
I'm sure that Katz didn't mean any harm or disrespect by this post, but some people just find a need to whine about stupid stuff.
Personally, Katz writes some of the most insightful stories, and dedicates more time to his stories than anybody else on slashdot. Flaming him isn't necessary, he isn't a bad guy.
I think we need to determine who performed this attack on the US buildings. If it's a terrorist group, then they should be dealt with, anyway possible (kill the bastards if you ask me).
If it's initiated from a government of another country, I say war! Show them, that we won't take their shit.
I used to be much more for war, but since I am now old enough to go to war, I am a total hypocrit.. I agree with war, but I would never be willing to fight in one.
omg, I've never thought of it that way, but your point is VERY valid. I used to do the same, sometimes me and a friend or two would work on building cities, but it was never a very social thing. 95% of the time I would be by myself doing this stuff.
Everybody needs to stop whining and flaming these guys. This is a huge accomplishment for the Linux community, and these are the only people who attempted this. Just because these guys need to put food on their tables (ie, charge for this product), doesn't make them evil. If you have a problem with these guys's accomplishments, why doesn't somebody go redo their work, and make it GPLed?
I totally agree. It's very sad really, that most Linux users are bums and can't afford software. Buy a game once in a while geez, this is a good company.
I usually am happy to hear of a new release (cause I get bored with the last one:), but man this sucks. I just got 2.4.8 working the other day, and now I gotta upgrade again? wowzers
btw, did anybody have problems with the emu10k1 drivers in 2.4.8? It looks like they may have fixed it in 2.4.9 according to the changelog.
Born in 1982, everybody in my classes in elementary school owned a NES. The kids who are jocks now, were jocks then too, and a lot of them were jocks before they got their Nintendo's. I don't doubt that gaming helps coordination but saying that it turns kids into jocks is absurd. There have always been jocks and since the last 20+ years everyone in my generation has owned some sort of gaming console. There is probably just as many jocks now as there were back before games.
Now you're acting just like Microsoft.
Why in the world would anybody not want 99% of the people they send/receive emails to/from to be able to read them?? You're only hurting yourself, I'm sure Microsoft isn't quivering at all because of this.

Microsoft says it's "irresponsible" to expect them to get a patch out for a critical flaw within "a few days".
no, what's irresponsible is having critical flaws in the first place!

"so good, it can emulate windows worms flawlessly"
:p.
I don't know if I should be impressed or flabbergasted
Yeah, I don't know if this is something to be proud of :p
it's mario kart (not cart).. and it looks nothing like mario kart, it look's more like crazy taxi (which is a good game :p)
I can't believe this.

"All around New York City, psychologists are showing up at school bus stops to deal with kids whose parents aren't coming home."
Wow, what a powerful sentence...
I can't think of any time that I have seen a disaster this huge in the states. Truly an unfortunate historical day.
it's spelled than, not then... sorry, just a pet peev :).

(sorry for the pointless rant
