We have newspapers to report on people doing things that are considered "wrong" or "not acceptable". Being filthy rich doesn't give you the right to do whatever you want.
Indeed... Microsoft is right. Linux on PS3 is not a competitor to XNA as long as RSX is locked out in PS3. Basically Linux for PS3 will be good for 2D games (emulators), pirates and as a media server/HUB. Not bad but not useful for small/amateur PS3 game devs.
Actually this article touches a good subject. Imagine how much energy we could safe if computers worked a bit less. People running computation stuff as screensavers *might* be cool but it sure costs the planet a lot! We "geeky" types have never really thought much about this... our computers stay on a lot uplaoding, downloading, rendering, screensaving or just doing nothing but they waste shitloads of energy. Nobody would actually leave his telly on while off to work.. but somehow we think that it is ok to leave uour PC on while we are gone "because it is doing stuff". The question is... does it *really* need to do stuff?
>And then there's the PS3, which destroys the 360. Cell and RSX *pulverize* the 360,
Wow and this on/.
I always highly respect the technical knowledge of my fellow/. posters. To see blatent trolling is always bad, but to see technical ignorance is even worse.
Anyway.. good luck Sony. They have almost never delivered in the past (remember the download movies thing on PS2) and after the whole DRM/rootkit "event" I wouldn't trust them with any Live-type service. I guess they will have to prove it to me first.
I have no problem with people believing in ID but I do have a problem with representing this as science in school. What is wrong with teaching pure Darwninian evolution? The people who are religious will have no problem combining pure evolution with the existence of god. Why do people insist on trying to teach religion and science mixed? Both can live together IMHO and religious people should understand that the teaching of pure science in no way threatens their religious beliefs. The fact that some *are* threatened is a whole different topic... those people want to force religion on other people.
>Where is the warming? In "#$"#$ cold places! There are lots of benefits to global warming that offset the costs.
That is extremely naive. True, just global warming wouldn't be extremely bad (fuel consumption would go down reducing output) but there are a lot of extra effects linked to this. Animals going extinct, plants dying and more extreme weather are just some of the possible collateral damages that are happening. The total unbalancing of the eco system could be at risk.
Is this man made? Can we afford to believe otherwise?

Err??? 2M Live users... 5M WoW players.... nuff said.
Ok.. this has nothing to do with pro/anti MS tactics but doesn't it feel like lots of companies/countries are just using MS as an easy money grab?
Nobody complains about this because everybody seems to agree that packing in stuff in Windows is bad... but shouldn't countries do something about it instead of just grabbing some easy money??? Put their money where their mouth is?
>If smaller software companies can patch all of their bugs serious or minor,
And this is already where it all goes down the drain... small software companies also cannot do that (unless they have a very slow product update cycle). I have worked for many big and small software companies and bugs/patches/testing is ALWAYS a big problem. Maybe we shouldn't focus on that, but on finding ways to design sofware in such a way that bugs can be detected by the software itself! (wow.. SF stuff) Or make sure our way of working with the business side (MORE features) is different. Software guys are from Mars and business partners are from Venus!
>I've always been under the impression that Japanese companies (or those largly held by) were a bit more ethical than their American counterparts.
That is strange. I wonder why you thought this?
In many ways Japanese companies are even less ethical IMHO since they are based on a very close loyality between customers and companies. Japanese people believe their companies know best and they trust them (well that is changing but that is besides the point) 100% while US companies are actually bound by the laws of capitalism. In theory, a capitalist system will reward companies that the consumer "likes" and punishes companies that the consumers "dislike". So I guess being ethical falls into this relationship as well. (of course capitalist companies have found ways of increasing trust without actually being more trustworty;)
Well Sony has all the reasons to mess with PCs stuff. They don't *really* want people to use their PC for any media stuff... Sony wants everybody to use custom hardware solutions made by Sony. PS3, PSP, Memory Stick,.....
So messing with your PC looks like a good thing to do for Sony (especially since it also f*cks with MS).
Have you been there? They have a higher living standard than the US.
Anway.; back on topic. So you are saying companies switch to Linux to make more money, not because it is better? Interesting view..; that means Linux is caught in a catch 22. It wants to fight the big fat capitalist companies but is used as a tool by these (maybe not the same) companies to get rich. Hmmm....
I say... leave the cool weapon design to computer games and invest all that money in some really useful technology. Super weapons have no use anyway when you have to fight street to street.
Of course for China this is a very good way to evade some of the "capitalist" rules, like actually paying a US company for an OS. If you where a big Cummunist country... wouldn't you want something like Linux as well? It frees you from IP-mad capitalist pigs;)
Looks like Linux is really becoming the anti-us/communist/free-trade choice of the planet.
Sun will enventually open source Java but probably when it is to late.
Anway.. it is all about control. We might all rave about open source, but apparently big fat corporations have no desire to really go open source themselves. Maybe they just want us to work for them for free while pretending we are liberated from MS?
>It's called corruption when industry interferes with or influences government
Yes true and I agree, but corruption is a by-product of extreme freefall capitalism like we are seeing in action now the last couple of years. Just look at the state of US policics. Case closed.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but these kind of things happen ALL the time. Sadly it is called "Capitalism" and your new found anger at MS is a bit misplaced here. Start with being angry at politicains for introducing this kind of behavior and accepting money to drive the whims of big cooperations.
Yeah, there is some good stuff in there. I am happy that MS is fixing some of the long standing weak spots of Windows. Recompiling core XP components with the latest C++ compiler is also a good idea.
You know, you guys can be a bit more positive from time to time. When MS does something right, be man/woman enough to admit it.
The light doesn't travel any distance when "wrapping" around. The universe is curved so that is why you have this wrap around effect, you shouldn't really take that picture as a guide:) It looks weird I know, but in physics/equations it makes sense. That straight "travel" line is not really a straigth line, it is also curved.
It will start after the one against Google ;)
This is true. The chaos in the "Tablet-space" will be the victory of the iPad.
Is this a joke?

MS never said it would be unhackable.
Also, this hack is not a real hack to run unsigned code or even something you can put on a mod chip. This doesn't even count...

This guy is just a thief.. selling illegal stuff on the internet. No excuse!
Please note he also has a string of previous offenses. Please don't let your hate for MS turn this guy somehow into a hero.

Dude the PS3 would suck for desktop stuff... it just doesn't have the power for desktop apps (games yes... desktop stuff... no).
