What's that URL meant to do for me ? I made a tinyurl of it, and opened that tinyurl up with my PS3, but it just gives an error "The page cannot be displayed. Network error occurred".
(I tinyurl'd the displayed URL, not the dodgy URL which the link actually tries to take you to when you click it. Slashdot is munging the URL)
I want to watch the NasaTv coverage from the UK. I can do it from the NasaTv page on my pc, but it's a small screen, and I want to use my PC for other stuff.
Has anyone ever got http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/ to work on a PS3 ? The page comes up ok on my PS3, but the video window just shows a static picture, with no video or audio... I assume the PS3 can't do the flash video required ???
Or, is there any alternate coverage on broadcast TV in the UK ?
I don't care whether you teach it or not in schools, but don't teach creationism nor evolutionism as an exact science and don't teach creationism nor evolutionism as the only true religion.
Evolution isn't a religion, or based on one, so that's fine. Creation is based on a religion, and I agree that it shouldn't be taught as true.
Now, about not teaching evolution as an exact science...... It is as exact a science as there is. It's an exact a science as the one that says there's a hunk of rock called the "moon" orbiting the earth. As exact as the theory of gravity. It's a fact that we evolved. You can argue about some of the exact details that are unknown, but if you aren't aware that we share a recent common ancestor with chimps and bonobos, and ancestors with 99-100% of all other life on earth, then you are an idiot. If you think there's a problem with teaching this in school as a fact, you're an idiot I don't want anywhere near my kids.
Would you mind explaining what you mean by Joss being "prohibited from accepting money directly"..... You mean, he hasn't got the rights to sell it, fair enough. If you mean I can't go up to him in the street, say to him "You're a legend, I loved firefly, here's some cash", then that's hard to believe. He visited a pub in Sydney last year and talked to his fans, some of whom bought him a pint of beer. Was that wrong ?
I'm not sure that me putting down "athiest" on a form is going to help get rid of people listening to religious whackos though. It's not like us athiests are wanting tax breaks on our churches..... (They're still not counting pubs as athiest churches, right ?)
At least I'm not in the USA, where religious whackos really are running the country. Not sure if that would make me any more likely to put down "athiest" on a form though, seeing as el capitan bush claims atheists aren't true Americans..... Yeah, ok, it would......
Please don't put in phony religions. If you're an atheist, say so. The Census is important.
Why is it important, and for whom ? I'm genuinely interested what effect it has if I put down a phony religion. Can't the census people figure out that pastafarian==athiest anyway ?
Last census I put down "Jedi", as did others. Specifically, what problems did that cause ?
You say Pastors spend their whole lives trying to help others......
Umm. No. Some might help others. But, their job description is to further indoctrinate people into their religion, feed them crap ideas and get them to donate money to that same cause.
Telling people about a "Jesus" who will wipe away their sins if they follow the church is not helpful. Believers think it is, but it really isn't.
If the monkey clans don't have any contact, how is it explained that the second group seems to be copying the first group ? Is it behaviour that would just be expected to evolve independantly by each group just due to monkey psychology ? Or more likely that there is contact (visual of the stream at least), it's just that the researchers didn't see it....
It's nice having so many links embedded in the summary, but which one links to where it's actually reported ? I'd expect a link on the "reported" word.....
As I recall, there's a voltage difference between the left and right side of the car due to the car cutting through magnetic field lines. I think that might be called "Hysteris".
Of course, there's hysteresis, which is a non-linear relationship between two things, such that the value of y depends not only on the value of x, but how the value of x changed previously.
Or, it's more likely that the 10kW they quote is peak power, during part of the travel of the ramp. What I just calculated above assumed the 10kW was the average power.
"Not to say there isn't ET life out there, but until some evidenc points to it, we may as well assume that the universe is empty except for us."
Hmm, well how would you go about testing that hypothesis that there's no life out there ? Or that there is life out there ?
Well, you could look into space !!!!!
Gee, wouldn't it be good if someone was doing that to provide the evidence one way or another ?
I've got no problem with Seti. I think they're going to fail to detect intelligent life, but as long as their aim is to determine if there's life and not "prove there is life", then it's all scientific.
I'm Australian, and want to clarify some stuff I keep hearing about Australia by tourists:
* yes, we are the country with the kangaroos * no, we don't have a convict government * our meat pies are really tasty, yeah * our kids don't go to school by sitting in a kangaroo pouch (well, most of them don't) * we don't have sex with sheep. That's what New Zealanders do. * never confuse us with New Zealanders. We really don't like that. Its like confusing americans with canadians. They eat us alive if we do this. * We don't wear akubra hats all the time. * Yes, at the olympics they once played the Austrian national anthem when we won gold.
Why did this only got mod up one point? This seems very insightful to me.
Probably because the poster of the article wants to convert a piece of manufacturing production-line software from Japanese to English, and the parent to your post is talking about going the other way, English to Japanese. He's talking about coding issues with the Japanese language, stuff to do with romaji, postal addresses.
Whilst interesting for other people, that information is probably next to useless for the poster of the article.
Why should it be a problem to make fun of people's religion ?
If they can't hack it, they can't believe it too much.
Plus, you've got to know that most religions are false simply by the number of them out there, and their incompatibilities. (For me, "most" equals "all").
What's wrong with making fun of people believing silly sounding, probably wrong stuff ?
No, you're not weird in liking Japanese girls. They are cute, and do definately hold their looks well. They don't do that thing lots of women do in old age, which is to get fat...
Doesn't appear to be. I get a black screen "The data is corrupted"... I don't think it will like realplayer either unfortunately.

Funny. I've got an Ipod, and I don't have a keypad at all. I manage.

There's Force, Energy and Power. They're different.
The force of the car of 1000kg is 1000*9.8 is about 10,000N (F=ma)
The Energy the car makes moving 2cm is 10,000*0.02 = 200Nm, not Watts.
The Power is measured in Watts, and depends on how long it took for the car to impart the energy. (P=E/t)
So, to get their 10kW quoted, it means it must have taken the car 200/10000 = 0.02s.
So, it takes 20ms to depress the bump....
As an Aussie, let me say : Worst episode ever

You can download the .mov file without requiring the browser plugin from :i es/harry_potter_SNL1.mov
http://www.kontrabandcontent.co.uk/1/graphics/mov
I tried firefox, but that didn't start downloading, so I tried "net transport" and that started downloading it fine. It's 11MB.
It's much lazier to be religious, same as your friends and family, than it is to be atheist, and have to live with religion all around you.
You, sir, are wrong and stupid (and illogical, if you are religious as you sound).

Once people try free software, they're unlikely to pay for software in the future.
However, people who pirate do often go on to pay for software. Microsoft knows this.

I thought the grandparent was funny.

Very well concentrated due to his lack of height.
