Genesis resurfaced in 1997 with Calling All Stations, which recalled their art-rock roots. Neither the critics nor the fans warmed to the album -- it sold poorly and the tour was equally unsuccessful.
Years ago! I posted about this some time ago, but sadly I'm not a paid subscriber so I can't provide a link to my post form some time ago. That said, I'll retell it in an abbreviated version.
Many years ago GL and company were traveling the country promoting a new Star Wars movie. I seem to recall it being ROTJ. I remeber there being a band playing music and GL up ther eon the bandshell in downtown along with a couple of people dressed up like Jawas with him. (Not to mention that I had just been up at the local Mall and had my picture taken with Chewie and Vader.) So anyhow, the point being that I remember Gl saying he was going to do a total of 9 films, each one 3 years apart, over 21 years. Obviously that didn't happen. And if only I could provide some hard evidence other than a distinct childhood memory. Maybe I just fabricated teh whole experience as a dream. But for me, I know! He said he was going to make them. Just never did and dashed the hopes of a littel kid. Oh well...
Didn't we go through all this with Echelon? I mean, wasn't that already deemed legal and installed at all the ISP's point of entry onto the 'net? Maybe I'm wrong.

Awe..there goes my little light on Ashcroft's desk again...Darn!
I think what we are seeing is the rise of the cottage industry (discussed here, here, & here as examples) brought up by Alvin Toffler in The Third Wave.
That is not true. AT&T, Verizon, and RCN ( a local cable co), and Comcast offer local phone services and broadband.
While living in Chicago (very recently) I had SBC for local phone, AT&T for LD, and AT&T WorldNet DSL (provided by Covad who you could also buy from direct in Chicago).
Okay so here is the real reason Google started Gmail:

Atleast that's what I see all day while trying to check my Yahoo! Mail free account.
As I see it: Google created Gmail. Forced Yahoo! to upgrade their free mail offering. Yahoo! upgrades. People go nuts and overload their whole friggin' mail system. Yahoo! mail goes down. Google laughs. Gmail remains up and running. Yahoo! spends oodles of money to upgrade systems to the new upgraded mail specs. Google says Gmail a failure and pulls the pug. Yahoo! eats crow. Google laughs more.
Thank you for contacting Google about our Copernicus Research Center.
We've received an overwhelming response to this opportunity and are not currently accepting additional resumes. We will, however, keep your information on file should we have an opening in the future. At the current staffing levels, we anticipate that we may need additional applicants on or around April Fool's Day in 2104. Until then, we appreciate your interest in Google and your taking the time to write us.

I did however find another "real" position to apply for...
I have a GCC technologies Elite Xl-20/800 that is toner and fuser compaticble with an Apple LaserWriter and a Fugi-Xerox P880 print engine. It's for sale BTW... so if interested email me.;-)
I can think of a few reasons for entertaining a career change. The top of the list, IMHO, would be being involuntarily lesuired. Something I recently experienced.
I spent a lot of money getting a graduate degree in my field from a top school. No, to be honest, it was the top school for my niche industry. I finished my degree a few years ago and landed myself a sweet job doing what I schooled for and making a very decent living. I thought I was set. Perhaps I was too optimistic. Several months ago I found I was summoned into the conference room one Friday afternoon and informed that the company couldn't afford my position anymore and I was being let go.
Aside from the usual progression of emotions for such a situation, the last six months of my newfound "freedom" have been spent figuring out how to make every dollar stretch and how top find new employment. That new employment, I hoped, would be in my field and at a similar salary to that which I had. I've discovered that that is prolly not going to happen. So what now? COntemplation of a new completely different job, that's what.
While I still hope out hope for landing the position I'd prefer at this point (affording the opportunity to pay off my debt and send my wife to grad school so she can move into a new career path as orignially planned before my forced extended vacation without pay) I am considering a drastic change. Heck, maybe it'll even mean more in terms of salary.
So now that I've rambled and ranted about my situation--I thank you for the couch time--my point is that a good reason to consider a job change as suggested in the article is being forced to change your job because you've been downsized.
No...you're thinking of VGER.

Wouldn't Lucas be dead by the time they're all finished?
Only if we are lucky.

...does this mean I can use my eBay Anything Points?
I have a butt-load of United miles I'd like to convert and use before they go bankrupt for good.
I just got a nifty heart monitor for running. Guess I should just go eBay it now...

I agree completely.
Actaully, what you refer to is the cottage industry that Alvin Toffler discussed in The Third Wave.
Well worth reading...
How long till the numbers are auctioned off on eBay?
