    please, i hated the first iphone but anyone with an IQ in the double digits could see the world just changed right before your eyes.
    $600 gave you a toy with very little storage, basic email on the go and the best web browser at the time on a phone. the future possibilities were endless

    but come on, everyone knows that business people aren't allowed to enjoy themselves on flights. if the IT goons didn't lock down the phones so that you can't do anything on them the company will fall apart? imagine the horror of the director of something using his phone to download a non-IT approved app like Angry Birds to play while on a business trip? the client will freak and pull the business

    if you take the power away from the IT goons to lock everything down what will they do? how will they get their power trip on?

    ok, i've played all the ME3 games and while good they are not that special. same with CoD and most other games i see.

    walk in straight line, shoot from cover, repeat. add in a few cut scenes and dialogue for story. same with all the hyped games from E3 like last of us and tomb raider. the graphics are nice but the gameplay is crappola. reminds me of the mid 1990's "interactive movie" fad. except it was watch cut scene, do some quick game play, repeat.

    baseball cards, my brother has a bunch of old ones including Mark McGuire rookie. I think he also has barry bonds and some other good rookie cards. dumb middle agers will pay lots of money for paper cards with photos of baseball players

    1980's GI Joe and other action figures. look at ebay prices. dumb middle agers will pay top dollar for toys their parents never bought them

    comic books, the list goes on

    so WTF are you going to do with this stuff? put it in your closet, keep it in "mint" condition, kill anyone who dares to touch it and think how worth it everything was?

    I remember years ago people used to write letters to the newspaper and the TV station some of which were printed or read on air. very few people cared about them.

    these days the same kinds of people leave a comment on the story online. 99% are junk, a tiny few interesting to read. either way at 7000 comments no one is going to read them all. what's the point?

    people pay to read the WSJ, HuffPo is free and ad supported. For all we know the people who read the WSJ don't care about leaving a comment no one will read.

    it's like G+. there are a few internet celebrities on there like Mike Elgan. as a time killer/break i'll read the posts and leave a comment and sometimes argue with people. its completely useless and just like /. half the time i won't read the story. but Mike is all giddy about how his stories are getting so many comments.

    before WW2 most people could barely read or not read at all and the only job they could get was working on a farm. serving in the military and getting some war booty was more exciting. back in those days graduating high school was a major achievement.

    now in the first world the vast majority of people know how to read, have a high school education and a lot have higher education degrees. why would these people want to join the army, crawl through the mud and be shot at or blown up? for minimum wage salary?

    i've lived in the USA for over 30 years. came here shortly after Reagan took office. when have these issue things actually influenced an election? it's all charisma and oratory ability

    Dukakis looked like a troll or a gnome
    Clinton was way better looking and charismatic than Bush 1
    Bush 2 was annoying but not as annoying as Al Bore who looked like your annoying overprotective mother lecturing you on what is best for you
    McCain went through torture, but that lip looks like hes chewing tobacco all the time. and he's old and kind of hunched. Palin was MILF hot but not enough to beat Oblama who had the looks and speaking ability like Steve Jobs

    no, the reason for an untraceble secret ballot was due to all the corruption in the late 1800's. Boss Tweed and all or watch Gangs of New York. People were told how to vote and the gang bosses went to the polls to make sure they voted the right way

    having an electronic ballot where its possible to trace who cast their vote and how risks bringing back all the problems from that time

    but then again kids always thought they know better than their parents or grandparents. but then today's generation of OMG i'll miss out on a WoW raid, i don't have enough time to vote is the same as the kids of almost 12 years ago when Bush was elected. all the kiddies hated him until it interfered with their bong and alcohol time

    you can license FRAND patents to connect to the network and make a workable phone. the patent owners have to agree to license them to you at the same rates which they license to everyone else which are pennies per handset.

    its the OS patents you have to worry about

    the problem is that you need those rare earths to build almost every products we want. little things like catalytic converters for cars so we don't pollute our air. even if we built them in the USA we couldn't get the materials to build them.

    unlike europe that has gone to war with each other every 50 years or so for the last 1000 years, the US hasn't been bombed. in some cases there has never been a reason to build new infrastructure like in the bombed out post WW2 remains of europe

    it's like the wal mart attitude of just buy the cheapest no matter what the hidden costs are of buying more products to make up for the crappy cheapest product in the first place

    same here. dollar wise for the initial costs its cheaper to put up overhead wires. and the repair costs are probably low enough that digging holes is always too expensive.

    and the fact that when you get to the republican areas everyone is always against higher taxes so they make due with crappy infrastructure

    20 years from now people will be saying the same thing about this supposed global warming. in the northeast it has actually been cooler than 30 years ago when i was a kid. almost every ridiculous theory about super hurricanes destroying NYC by 2010 have not happened.

    streamed bits are a lot cooler than playing them local

    it's like streaming a movie vs watching a blu ray. the streamed is so much better
