    this is why google plus will fail. no one needed a book to use facebook simply because it was better than email to communicate with people you have met.

    google plus pushes this idea of circles and "following" people because they are internet stars which most people don't care to do

    i opened it up today after a few weeks of abstaining and it looks dead. compared to a few months ago most posts have no comments.

    google calls it a social network but the whole system of circles is to push the bloggers and other social media oprahs on people. google was trying to make a TV for the internet generation and organize bloggers under their control.

    the internet of the late 20th century and the first few years of the last decade was you go find the information you want. Google flourished because they were able to organize it better to make life easier for you.

    Facebook, twitter and the rest of social is the new internet. You "like" or follow brands and then read the stream of their updates/news feed. sort of like a custom RSS feed. the point is that you no longer find the information, you are fed a stream of data. just like TV of the 20th century where you sit in front of a box and consume the content.

    this is where google is having problems. the whole idea of fighting spam in gmail was to force those companies to use google for advertising. Yes, all the shady loan companies and no prescription drug companies used google almost 10 years ago to advertise. but with SEO the spam problem is coming back and the only way to solve it seems to be social where people crowd source the content filtering.

    that's the whole point of Plus, to filter the content. but lately Plus is crap as well. Just a bunch of bloggers/internet oprahs and you are supposed to comment on how cool they are when they post something

    i saw it in the PS3 store for $10. it's on the PS3 but old graphics. or if you have an android phone/tablet you can get the PS emulator and the game files and play it like that

    facebook lets you group friends and assign permissions to those groups as to what they can see. just group the boss and your teachers into a dead end group, set it up in the permissions not to allow them to see anything or the very bare minimum and that's all

    you can take pictures on your phone but you will be careful due to the the data charges. sitting on the beach you will probably have an ipad in your hands reading a book or watching a movie and not an iphone

    if you have one you're going to take it places like family functions and vacations so that it will probable be in your hands unlike your phone which may be useless outside the US.

    so you will use the ipad like a camera/camcorder

    100mbps is the ideal speed in a lab with no other electronic noise. in the real world there are thousands of devices around you broadcasting on frequencies close to yours that your phone has to spend time canceling out. as well as people broadcasting on your frequencies.

    it's like back in the world of layer 1 hubs

    majority does not rule here, it takes 2/3 and sometimes 3/4 of a house of congress to pass a law

    there have always been issues between large and small states and rich urban states and poor agricultural/industrial ones. the US government is set up to work around this

    the 2012 election is going to cost north of $500 million per campaign. figure $20,000 - $50,000 max per donor when you figure the dinners and the individual contribution.

    one less $50,000 check from a pissed off hedge fund manager in a sea of donations isn't going to swing it to the republicans. there are hundreds of funds headquartered in DNC heavy areas that will still go for obama

    Application Service Providers? those guys running Windows NT 4 Terminal Services edition where you had virtual desktops to run MS Office over the slow ass internet of the time? those same guys that failed and their EMC SAN's were on Ebay for 1/5 the new cost?

    Same with cloud services

    they are only worth it if you're a small start up or mom and pop. if you're a fortune 1000 or someone else with a data center built then why wipe out the investment you already made?

    if you're a big company price out how much amazon costs. by the time you pay for the super servers, all the data and backups it's a lot more than buying yourself.

    the missiles can be launched from thousands of miles away, not like it has to fly over the bomb zone on every mission

    the hackers will probably need to be close to the bomber which is going to be very hard considering that the trip is over the pacific, the north pole, russia or some combination.

    i had a wii and even with the balance board the exercise quality was so so. and its easy to cheat with the controller

    kinect is a lot better in making you actually move and there is no way to cheap since the software is looking for specific body positions not just movement of the controller

    i noticed it a while ago that the price points were way to low to be sustainable. Not only were they low, but users expected unlimited updates for their $.99 game. and not just bug fixes, but new functionality. it worked for a while as the iOS installed base exploded but as growth slows down expect the return to version numbers.

    it already started with "HD" versions of games and apps. separate iphone and ipad versions. sure you can run the iphone version on the ipad but it looks like crap.

    next is the return to version numbers

    cool racing game
    next year is version 2 with new features and new IAP
    and a new version every year and dropping compatibility with new iOS versions after a year or so
