    it's not a reduction in costs as in a reduction in up front cash required. in finance class in college we learned that a fast growing company can easily go bankrupt due to the fact that cash comes in months after the revenue is recognized but expenses like salary and bills have to be paid out on time.

    in this case small companies can pay a little at at a time to amazon and grow rather than spend a fortune on infrastructure

    presentation said average is $1450 per server which is an entry level 1U. why not just buy fewer larger servers to share the workload? it would probably save on power costs?

    i see people run red lights literally 5 seconds or more after it turns red. plenty of time to stop. i laugh every time i see someone run a red light and get caught.

    in NYC they made this the equivalent of a parking ticket so it goes against the car. kind of like a lien on real property making it easier to stick someone with a fine instead of proving who actually ran the light. lesson is don't lend your car to someone who will run red lights

    seriously this is the guy who 10 years ago was preaching "consistent user experience" for mobile devices. he had vision to put windows on mobile devices but screwed it up buy trying to jam a desktop GUI on a tiny screen.

    MS needs some fresh blood. Ballmer has been there almost as long as gates and paul allen founded the company. they need someone with no PC baggage to lead the company

    and people are always writing tips on foursquare so it's customer feedback as well. and advertising with specials keep bringing people in.

    foursquare along with groupon are really tool for the mom and pop to advertise to a lot of people cheaply. that was the whole promise of the internet 15 years ago

    just because someone cares exactly where you check in and when and exactly what you do

    foursquare has a chance at being the new loyalty card where loyal customers get freebies once in a while and a way to measure feedback since people can leave comments. otherwise companies care about general customer demographics and when there are big rushes. so that say starbucks can have the most people on staff when people come into the store. i've seen some starbucks with huge lines at 3pm

    at least in NYC it's the professionals that break the most traffic laws and drive dangerously. bus driver, taxi cab drivers, medical van drivers and other people who drive a lot for work. they are the ones running the most red lights and getting pissed off at you if you drive within the laws

    symantec is around $18 per year per user plus a server or vmware instance and the costs for that. that's $90 over 5 years in savings just for no anti-virus

    no, i see A LOT of kindles on the NYC subway. at least as much as paper book readers if not more. then there is my ipad 2 and other tablets. i can carry thousands of books on my ipad 2 and they won't clutter up my apartment either. in fact i'm going to try to start getting rid of some of my paper books because there are ipad versions of the media. in the case of cookbooks there are whole apps with video and detailed instructions that are easier to use than a book

    a real laptop is $299 to $500 for the cheap ones. $500 or $600 can buy a real Sandy Bridge CPU or a 2010 Core i CPU. bought a $299 celeron CPU laptop last year as a gift and it shocked be with how decent it was for my father in law in speed and usability.

    other than the fast start up time what is the advantage to buying one of these that will send everything you do back to google? and will have less features and usability than real laptops? my ipad 2 has more features and power than these crippled computers

    who talks on the phone these days? phones are for surfing the net, reading books, reading newspapers, watching movies, listening to music, twitter, facebook and whatever else i'm missing. my phone is used for talking maybe an hour a month
