few years ago you has OS X, Apple TV and Time Machine. only thing now is that Apple seems to be going to iOS which has more lock in and runs on ARM CPU's so that they can control the entire hardware and software experience. people have run OS X on non-apple hardware but not iOS
since apple is a hardware company they are trying to sell you 20 devices each with the same OS but gimped software that is dumbed down for a few tasks. instead of general purpose software like OS X
there was a huge outcry in the iSucker community when SJ said that
at one point MS was the excuse to switch from IBM and Novell. When Windows 95 came out people lined up to buy it and upgrade computers. it was just like the iSuckers lining up at Apple Stores. By Vista no one wanted to upgrade a computer for an OS upgrade. especially because PC's became so cheap the price to upgrade wasn't worth it.
original iPhone was like Windows 95 in the 1990's. Apple is using iOS to lock everyone in and it probably won't work in the long run
Apple trying to dumb down the computer and to vertically integrate the entire experience to lock everyone in will probably fail. Right about at the peak of Microsoft's power is when the company saw they had to support other technologies. IBM's peak in the mainframe age vanished when PC's came along and freed people from the tyranny of the mainframe.
i like my iphone and think it's the right experience for a mobile device, but not the computer.
CCFL LCD's are a few inches thick. someone i know just bought a 47" LED LCD TV and it's 1" thick at most. they junked a 150 pound CRT flat screen monster that broke. no one wants a big TV anymore

dumbass, W-CDMA is used around the world and is commonly called UMTS which the iPhone and Nexus One support. GSM was coined back in TDMA days and it's just the name of a worldwide governing body, not a technical standard. Verizon's version of CDMA is an upgraded version of CDMA2000
how many people know what UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+,HSUPA, CDMA, WCDMA mean? even a lot of the tech enthusiasts who think ATT is on GSM don't know that AT&T is using a form of CDMA. i saw it in the Nexus One settings on the internet where the network says WCDMA.
the screens Apple uses are IPS LED backlit panels that are better and more expensive than what dell uses. they aren't the same monitors. Dell had a 27" IPS monitor that was supposed to be made by the same company that supplies Apple and it was something like $800 which after you add up all the other components in a 27" iMac a Dell computer would cost more.
with apple you pay for crappy graphics and a nice monitor with Wintel you can buy nice graphics but the monitor won't be as good
to be fair the Mac Pro has Xeons and not consumer level CPU's. It's priced in line with other workstations from Dell/HP.
it's the imac's. Apple wants you to pay for an expensive LCD screen and gimped the graphics. my theory is that it's psychology. when i did help desk all the lusers thought the computer was their monitor. so apple did just that except they sell you a very expensive monitor that looks nice so you feel good about spending $1500 on a computer when most people think $500 is too much
the computers are expensive even though if you compare prices to Dell/HP they are fairly competitive, but it's little things like this that keep me from really buying a Mac
games performance is a lot worse than Windows. for years all the isuckers said how OS X is better and faster than bloated Windows and now they are complaining
the graphics cards are weak and less video memory. it's like Steve Jobs has a fetish against killer graphics. i can get a cheapo PC with 1GB of graphics RAM. for an iMac i have to spend $1899 for the 27" model with yellow tint and a graphics upgrade
and Flash still sucks on Mac's even though it runs just fine with hardware acceleration on a $299 toshiba laptop i bought as a gift
Macbooks suck when comparing their anti-theft features compared to Windows notebooks. Apple already has Find My iPhone for MobileMe subscribers but it's not very good. In this case if a phone is reported stolen it can take a picture of whoever finds it for easier identification by police
but imagine you're reading 1984 in iBooks and your phone suddenly starts saying "You are the dead" when Winston and his girlfriend are about to be arrested in the hotel. that would be a cool easter egg in the latest version of iBooks
maybe not for PC's, but for HP server and probably Dell with the CD/DVD they provide to set up the server it's a good idea. more storage on the motherboard means you can put more logic into the scripted set ups that HP/Dell provide. and you can use it as a cheap storage for diagnostic data for servers
they had a blog post a few weeks ago that while html5 is nice for free youtube videos, to control DRM on paid videos you need Flash or a small number of other technologies to deliver them.
i like my iPhone but even i think Steve Jobs is a liar or doing it for business reasons. he has a control fetish and it's the reason why Flash sucks on OS X while performing very nicely on Windows.
some idiots actually add their homes and cars to it and check in at home. one of these days if i'm bored i might start checking in at other people's houses just to see if they notice.
one annoying thing is that there is no real database of places. it's all community added and i've stood in front of a business and foursquare said i was 100 meters away or some other ridiculous distance. probably because someone added it while standing far away. foursquare needs to build a real database of locations and their coordinates
because it's OCD addictive like Farmville for a few weeks until you get tired of it
few months ago Robert Scoble wrote a column about Four Square, Blippy and a few other services where he actually took it seriously.
but it's fairly useful. i found a few lunch places due to foursquare reviews
in the end it's one of those kiddy everyone wants to know what i'm doing internet thingies. i've noticed my soon to be 3 year old son acts out when he wants attention. same thing with all these new location services. a lot of kids didn't get enough attention so now they are trying to get it via the internet.
my son is almost 3 and i first saw A New Hope when i was around 8 in 1982 on a theater rerelease. back then it was cool tech especially the 3D death star map. i just bought my wife an iPhone 4 and gave her 3G to our son loaded with all kinds of kids apps. Kids growing up with today's technology will yawn when they see star wars.
George Lucas better hire some CGI artists and redo it from the used universe to where it looks futuristic by today's standards
i had the Special Edition pack DVD's and the PTM DVD and on VHS. it was after Lucas released PTM on DVD and the last 2 movies sucking pretty bad that i stopped caring. can't remember the last time i saw any of the movies.
but it was funny to read the suckers complain after every new release how they had to buy it again and it was the same movies
if the last 15 years is any guide expect a new version of the saga every 2-3 years
late 1990's we had the cleaned up version of the OT followed up by the special edition versions 2000 we had The Phantom Menace then we had the Phantom Menace DVD scandal where it was released on VHS in 2001 because GL had some grand plan to release all 6 movies on DVD middle of last decade 2002 TPM magially comes to DVD as a special release because of the demand around this time we had the OT DVD release then the next to NT movies came out on DVD shortly after the theater releases i stopped buying after TPM DVD but i'm pretty sure there were a few grand releases later in the decade
after this blu ray release expect the OT movies to come out with no special edition versions then 3D releases then a few more releases including an upcoming complete reshoot of all the movies with new modern special effects but the original character's faces and voices to preserve the history of the series
the isuckers/star wars suckers will buy anything their cult leaders tell them to buy, in the case of the SW nerds they probably have 20 versions of each movie already and can't wait to buy more due to the continuous finds of new scenes
before SUV's and mini vans we had station wagons and muscle cars. generally cars are a lot more efficient today. my 4 cylinder 2009 Accord has as much horse power as my old 1992 V8 firebird. and it has a lot more electric gizmos for pollution control as well as comfort
meanwhile apple will sell millions of iPhone 5's where you personally have to ask Steve Jobs permission any time you use it
or listen for military transmissions

not true anymore. if you look at Intel's CPU chart all iMacs are running desktop versions of the CPU. they even have desktop hard drives
to be fair the Mac Pro has Xeons and not consumer level CPU's. It's priced in line with other workstations from Dell/HP.
