    there will never be proof that HP or it's officers told someone to break the law. they told the PI's to get the info and it was up to them how to do it

    i read almost the exactly worded article almost 10 years ago when everyone was afraid of Microsoft.

    i like my iPhone and will probably buy a few iPads, but we're reliving the 1970's with this stuff. people will get tired of their dumb devices in a few years like they hated the rent some time dumb terminals and someone will sell a mobile device in 5-10 years that will run a real OS and not the dumbed down iphone OS that's locked to apple or google. we are in a flash memory revolution and in 5-10 years we will be back to more mobile power than we know what to do with. like we hit with PC's around 2000

    people are looking for a good mobile computing experience today and Windows 7 isn't it. Slate looked OK but too slow.

    Dell and HP lose money selling PC's. they make money on the services and warranties and crapware people end up buying. just like best buy doesn't make any money on the stuff they sell.

    if you add it to the domain then it's easy to create a policy to check for encryption software and install it if not found

    for over 10 years. she's even worked in places where celebrities go for treatment.

    if you look back at the past 10 years most of the data losses have been due to people copying data to endpoint devices and losing them. no one wants their medical records lost. people will sue because of it.

    most places my wife has worked don't allow personal smartphones to connect to the email system. everything is monitored, tracked, etc. in the case of celebrities people have gotten fired just for accessing their charts without a valid reason.

    since an iPad's contents are encrypted he should be OK. and if the hospital is using Exchange 2007 SP1 or later they can force encryption for a mobile device like the iPad.

    and to top it off Microsoft licenses ActiveSync to Apple and Google. Last few years Apple and MS have been playing very nice together. Almost like a balance or terror. MS doesn't want Apple to become too powerful

    i left the army 10 year ago, but i remember powerpoint even then. officers would spend hours making slides for command and staff and other briefings. they would draw maps and all kinds of pictures from scratch. it was amazing to watch, and i'm glad i never had to do any of it

    it's not as simple as recoding a few websites. we run an old version of Cognos with a SQL server backend. looking into upgrading it because we have too much data for it now. this version of cognos requires some build of IE6

    new version of Cognos is $70,000 or more if you haven't been paying support. from what i've read it doesn't support SQL server anymore so we're not sure if we need a separate license for DB2 or Informix. then there is the issue of migrating the cubes.
    SQL 2008 R2 will cost us $30,000 including the hardware. and there is still the issue of months of work of recreating all the cubes.

    multply this by all the other software that companies run that they don't pay annuall support for that will need a business case for an upgrade

    i've been using Winders since the mid 1990's along with AV software. I have never seen an issue where a definition update has caused something like this. i've seen plenty of times where you can't run an old version on a new OS or issues with games or some software. but letting something out like this into the wild just shows that there was no testing done just to make sure it's OK

    flash is not speedy on windows either, but the fan starts up on my laptop anytime i access flash content. it's like it's hard coded into the flash client to heat up the CPU and start up the fan

    apple wants to control their platform. would it be better if Adobe controlled the development for the iphone and Apple had to beg them to make changes to take advantage of new features of new handsets?

    there is a firefox plugin to download videos from youtube that works on a lot of porn sites. and you can use handbrake which is free to convert to the native iphone/touch format for better battery efficiency. and a lot of the tube sites work natively in safari.

    and for wife proof surfing there are apps like private browser which wipes all the history of the session. kind of like IE/FF private browsing

    check out the iTunes store sometime

    DVD in best buy is $15 for 4 episodes of Dora the Explorer or some other kids cartoon like Little Einsteins. On iTunes is $15-$50 for a season of 26 episodes depending on the show and the season. and they have pretty much every other kids movie or cartoon that is out on DVD

    OS is built on Open Source - check
    good build quality - check
    works with MS Exchange out of the box - check
    tons of server/network management apps available - check
    gives me console/RDP access to any server i manage - check
    OS 3 is up to 176 apps and OS 4 will max it to over 2000 apps on an iphone. Android and blackberry are crippled in the amount of apps you can install on them
    plenty of games available for the train ride
    my son loves it and tons of kids games on it
    i can teach my son to code on it

    what exactly can you do with an android phone other than gmail and internet?

    less than $100 for the TomTom and Navigon apps in the app store. New Android phones ship with the same capability built in. some people would rather pay the higher car payment than get a smartphone and pay the $30 a month data charge.

    i figured that out when the iPad was first announced. $2000 for a glorified $300 DVD system vs $500 for a dumbed down computer that can play movies and games and you don't need to take shiny discs with you that scratch easily

    and you can use the ipad outside the car as well. and if you're an IT geek with kids, the App Store has tons of IT management apps to give you console and any kind of remote access to almost any platform from anywhere. just in case you get a call while on vacation that something is wrong

    you're not looking hard enough. Apple and Google both license ActiveSync from Microsoft. Every iphone, ipod touch and ipad has a fully licensed ActiveSync client that you pay for even if you don't use Exchange email. all the iSecurity features Apple hypes are just ActiveSync features and MS code. iPhone OS 4 is going to support Exchange 2010.

    Google licenses it as well, but so far only for Google Docs. if this iGoogle pad will have document transfer then it will be MS code and patents running it. a lot of people do buy Touchdown from the marketplace which is a fully licensed ActiveSync client

    Apple is not big enough to do pure R&D like HP, Microsoft and IBM. they finally have a lot of cash and they might start now, but most of this decade they were like MS in the 90's. copy everyone and come out with a cooler looking versioni

    my son is the same age and he can get around my iphone pretty well. i have 2 pages of apps just for him. i've noticed that if i change their position or the page they are on, he can still find the app he's looking for. his current favorite is a Thomas the Train puzzle game.

    and thanks to video download helper on firefox, i can download train videos for him from youtube. and sometimes he just likes to explore, try playing the music i have, change the position of my apps, etc

    and i don't think Congress can pass a law either. You have ISP's on one side some of whom are also cable companies and in the business of reselling media content via their cable TV business. and on the other side you have companies like Google who think up of new digital products that cause ISP's to spend more money for capital upgrades. if there is a net neutrality law then i can see the ISP's coming out with tiered pricing overnight. it's like electricity, in the last 10 years people's demand for it has grown and they have accepted paying more for it. but with internet access people scream that it's the end of the world
