It's the design. It looks to have a bump on the bottom, maybe batteries go in there similar to the Apple wireless keyboard. But unlike the product they got their inspiration from, the bump is at the wrong end. When placed on a flat surface, the screen will be angled away. Major design FAIL.
And what do you know about Mark Shuttleworth's motivation? How do you know that Mark Shuttleworth is a nice guy? How much longer is Mark Shuttleworth gonna stay with the project if he can't turn any profit? How can you prove that your statement won't go both ways, like:
"The Linux community is full of egotistical dickheads that like to control the product and then work it when the move on. Mark Shuttleworth is a perfect example of this type of characters."
...all the way to the bank. Even though now it has over 1100 reviews and a one star rating, it's available for sale and it's #1 BESTSELLER!!!
The thing is, sometimes, consumers are idiots. They jump on a $60 game even if it has a 1 star review, they go to concerts where Justin shows up 5 hours late and they buy tablets for 2x the price with lower specs.
I don't have any issues with Miguel, but I met him about 4 years ago and even then he was using a macbook with osx. Or maybe he was just a closet osx user and now coming out? Or he's just starting a fight?
Even worse than the vulnerabilities are the _constant_ nagging for updates. Then on top of it, the way java updates is stupid. With every update a new version is installed, and the old ones are left uninstalled. So it got uninstalled. All of it.
The language is ok, but everything else about java just plain sucks.
But... Chrome is the best browser. At least best for me, it's fast, allows me to block ads and other crap through extensions, web pages render as expected and it doesn't crash ever. So if it will display Office documents in the browser, it will just be better. Maybe the point here is to make Chrome better?
Privacy would be nice, but it won't happen. Not with today's facebook/twitter generation, where people willingly share all of their information. Privacy is not valuable anymore.
The view controller auto rotation on ios sucks. Just plain sucks. It was bad before ios6, and ios6 made it even worse.
And if having to work with a crappy api is not enough, your app will be rejected if the ui doesn't rotate the way apple wants it. What apple wants you won't find out until about a week from the date of submission. Then you can try to hack it, one week at a time.
How about the other way around? Every time there is a major OSX release, Adobe programs break, Autodesk products stop working. And of course you don't find out about the software incompatibility until you upgrade.
I have both OSX and Windows machines (although most of them run Linux), and have never run into software incompatibility issues with Windows upgrades. Not even from Windows XP -> Win7. On OSX, need to purchase a new version of Adobe and Autodesk products with every upgrade. New versions not available until several months _after_ the OSX upgrade, which completely blows. That's no "best legacy support", sorry.
You called your parent a troll, not knowing what he's talking about - the pot calling the kettle black.
Yeah right. First it was the "body massager", now it's the "vibrating pen". Nice try.
But if they are really serious, they are a bit behind the times: how often do people write with a pen anymore? The only time I use a pen (sharpie, actually) is to mark where to cut the 2x4.
It's of course a bit different. It uses different hardware. It has similarities to your game:
- you can advance through several levels
- you can use your fingers for control
- you can customize her outfit
- you can collect and use tools
- you can play it on the couch
- there's a boss level at the end (you most likely won't get near it, nor will beat it, just use some tools for now)
But there are differences, too:
- it's more exciting
- you can use more than your fingers
- you get more physical feedback than rumble
- you are not restricted to your couch
- you might achieve more satisfaction
Just try it. You'll probably realize that she's not playing your game because her game is a lot better.
We send manufacturing over there because it's cheaper. A major reason why it's cheaper is the lack of regulations. No need for smoke filters, no worries about dumping waste in waters. Then we take pictures and post it on the internet. And we feel good about our yard and complain about theirs.
All the touch enabled laptops I've seen have glossy screens. Glossy screens with all the glare are useless for work.
It looks like all the causal users are buying tablets instead of laptops already. So laptops remain for people who actually want to get some work done. When they make them with matte anti-glare screens, then they'll be ready for purchase.
There is an article posted about this on slashdot EVERY TWO WEEKS!
So maybe first you should do some research on the subject. But I give you the non-tldr version:
If you want me to hire you, you have to show me that you are worth it. How can you do that? Work on a project (open source/your own/whatever) in your spare time and bring it to the interview. Without anything to show, I'm sorry, no tech job for you.
Let's start with the assumption that when a corporation files a law suit they have about 50% chance of winning. So with your "litigation finance pool" they would have half of their litigation costs for free. This would mean that they could file 2x as many law suits for the same amount of money.
Now let's add to this the fact that most things can be argued either way, so whoever has the better argument, as in whoever can afford the better attorney, wins more often. That would make litigation even more affordable for companies with lots of $$ to burn.
You sure you thought this one through?
"Frivolous lawsuits need to result in jail time."
We already have something even better for this in the US. The burden is on the lawyers, and they can be penalized big time for not doing their due diligence. From wikipedia:
In the United States, Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and similar state rules require that an attorney perform a due diligence investigation concerning the factual basis for any claim or defense. Jurisdictions differ on whether a claim or defense can be frivolous if the attorney acted in good faith. Because such a defense or claim wastes the court's and the other parties' time, resources and legal fees, sanctions may be imposed by a court upon the party or the lawyer who presents the frivolous defense or claim. The law firm may also be sanctioned, or even held in contempt.
You can't run linux on an ipad either. So linux users don't buy ipads either? Do linux users boycott apple and not run linux on overpriced apple laptops because they can't run linux on apple's tablet?
Why is Microsoft the only evil one for making a tablet that can't boot linux?
This is just plain silliness. There are a bunch of win8 tablets where secure boot can be disabled and linux installed.
AAPL share prices are going down the toilet. The iDevice gravy train is running out of steam. What else is there to do? Sue.
So the bar owner is a troll, but you agree with him. That makes you what exactly?

"I wouldn't be surprised to see most of the devs just go back to Debian."
That is exactly what I did. It's the same thing, less the fluff, less the drama and less the commercial interest.

That sounds like the almost perfect slashdot story. Your phone, wasn't that a Nokia? Just because that would make it totally perfect.
Privacy would be nice, but it won't happen. Not with today's facebook/twitter generation, where people willingly share all of their information. Privacy is not valuable anymore.

"people seeking help with their Apple (Cupertino) products"
Apple products just work. That's why they are so expensive.

Flash is blocked on all of my devices. And has been for a long time. There's absolutely no need for flash.

+1. Wish I had mod points.

Just look past the Apple logo. You might find treasures.
