I used to love the old fashioned keyboards. My favorite was some PS/2 IBM model that I still have in the attic somewhere. When PS/2 ports started disappearing, instead of reaching for the soldering iron, I looked for a USB keyboard.
After much trial and error I discovered the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard. It is the best keyboard ever made. Less fatigue, awesome key action, silent and it's backlit. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
I don't think you should discount all cel phones on voice quality.
My Blackberries used to have superb voice quality.
My iPhones always sucked, more like two cans and a string. I can still tell when I call someone with an iPhone, because I can't hear what they are saying.
My Droid3 has great voice quality, same with the wife's SGS3.
What's the alternative? No challenges, no sports so kids don't get hurt? Hand them an iPad, sit them on the couch with a nanny and feed them cereal? Then get a shrink to subscribe Ritalin once they get messed up from high carb diet, no exercise and low self esteem?
Maybe because Ainol didn't pay the/. front page story tax. BTW I have the same Ainol tablet, great screen and superb build quality (it survived many drops by my 3 year old).
Only until the next MBP and iMac comes with a touch screen. Then you'll be here telling us that Apple finally cracked touch screen laptops and desktops, how it revolutionized your life, mobile computing (again) and the milky way (a first time ever for mankind).
I have another one for you. SJ also said that the 3.5" screen was the perfect size for a phone. But when the original droid came out three years ago, I thought the extra.5" and higher resolution made a HUGE difference. Now Apple also has a 4" high res screen (translate: retina 4). Any insights on that?
While you're at it, since my wife got a Samsung GS3, it seems to me that the extra.8" (4"->4.8") makes an even HUGER difference. Thoughts on that?
If you don't want to stop there, the phone on my wish list is the Samsung Note 2, with a 5.5" screen and a stylus. Any explanations to the +1.5" and stylus, or are these all failed products until Apple finds the perfect size? What is it going to be? 4.7"? 4.85"? 5.35"? 5.65"? And what about the name for the stylus? The magic stick? The magic brush? The infinity pen?
I looked at a bunch of laptops recently while shopping for an upgrade to my current one.
The touch screens are really cool. For example the Yoga from Lenovo is a beautiful, well designed laptop with solid build. Probably the laptop with the best design and build quality right now. I agree with the article that touch is an additional way of interaction, not a replacement of touchpad/mouse.
However there is one major flaw with the touch screen laptops: they all have glossy screens. No anti glare coating magic removes the harsh reflections. Without sitting in a pitch dark room, they are pretty much useless for any type of serious work.
When you get your mac for the extra $1000, please come back and tell us how to remove the icloud, itunes, facebook and twitter integration crap from osx. Because that's no better than the office trial. And until you tell us how to, it can't even be removed.
This goes both ways. Why does image capture open when I hook up my phone for charging on the mac and why do I have to hunt for some obscure pulldown to turn it off? Or why do function keys not work as function keys unless they are set to work as function keys in keyboard preferences? Or why does the scroll wheel on the mouse work backwards?
It's not an easy task if you don't know that the mouse has more than one buttons, and clicking the one on the right opens up a menu.
I helped a friend with restoring iPhoto on her macbook (she dragged the icon to the trash to remove it from the dock or eject it or whatever). After it was done, I showed her that is she presses the trackpad at a certion location, she gets a menu where she can remove icons from the dock. She was astounded, and told me that this revelation opened up a whole new dimension for her.
Apple does its own evil. iCloud in every menu. Facebook, Twitter everywhere. And those can't be removed with a clean install of the OS.
ML by default is set to not allow installation of applications that were not purchased through the app store or not signed with an apple certificate. I know this setting can be changed, but they are obviously banking on most people not knowing how to do that.
Then there's iTunes. I guess there's no need to go into detail about that one.
BTW, both notepad and wordpad are completely free, and wordpad is a functional document editor. If you are talking about office trial, just uninstall it.
You can create studies that prove whichever point you're advocating. So while downloaders like this article, I'm pretty sure the movie industry will be pointing at things like this: best ever Thanksgiving weekend.
Visual Studio - is lightyears (but at least 5 years) ahead of everything else.
Exchange, SQL Server, etc.. - good luck trying to find alternatives for their enterprise solutions.
Games - they run and run fast.
Device drivers - are available for all hardware. My hybrid gfx on a 2 year old laptop still has no linux support, so I have to use some hack to turn one of them off.
Xbox, Kinect - enough said.
MS is not going anywhere anytime soon. If Steve Jobs would've come up with the active tile home screen, or the unified interface across devices, everyone would've been drooling over it.

Just let them play some ball.
Make that 3. Mine was also not able to keep any USB connection alive, but I didn't return it.

My 5 year old daughter wants the tablet and brush from this Windows 8 commercial. Does she qualify for your all in caps comment?

Sorry about the link. When I posted it, the article was free. I can't believe they made it subscription only.
Just get it fast before the new owners change the recipe to make it more healthy.

My kids love ABC Superstar Kids
It has fun puzzles, teaches how to draw letters, and you can customize the character.
Just a reminder before moaning about your privacy:
Next time, think before you click. Unfortunately you'll have to wait four years to correct your mistake.
It looks nice, but the price is not right. $450 pays for a nice i3 laptop with screen, ethernet, keyboard etc...
If they could keep the price under $300 with 4gb of ram (at $10/piece retail) and a 500gb hdd (at $80 retail), then this would be interesting.

you made it into pop culture history today:
pulling a timothy: blatantly stating the obvious from an obviously false angle
I'm using this Linaro distribution: http://blog.dryft.net/2012/08/v4-linaro-armhf-image-for-mk802.html
I have a MK802 with an A10 processor, runs perfectly fine at full HD resolution with the Linaro distribution.
Of course you can't run Autocad or Call of Duty on it. But I don't think that's the intended use case.
