    Gravity waves exist of course, but we have no way of detecting them yet since their signature is much much much harder to detect

    I'm guessing, but since it's NZ and they're just across the straight, and I know a little of US ratings, M would be equivalent of your PG-13 or our M rating, and R16 would be equivalent to your R or our MA. I don't know about in NZ, but we also have R which is roughly equivalent to NC-17 but you've gotta be 18, not 17.

    Not to mention the fact that it's pretty well documented (so long as you're not a creationist) that the reason man evolved into the thinking, walking*, talking creature you see before you is that we stopped eating grass and started eating meat. Meat is a LOT easier to get your RDIs from, which means your stomach does a shitload less work, which leads to more spare power to evolve a functioning brain.

    *OK, the grass eaters did walk like us, but they didn't think or talk till they started eating meat (at first simply marrow and brains left by larger carnivores).

    Actually I always thought the most embarrasing thing was that there was no such frigging thing as a "3D0 Machine"... After years of PCs and their "standards" there was no way i would have spent that much cash on a machine based on some specifications :)

    I don't care how many dorks keep saying that "Wine Is Not an Emulator", but it is. FFS. It's not windows. It pretends to be windows, ie it EMULATES windows... Not all of it, it's not as good as a whole PC emulator, but it's still an emulator.

    The average american isn't the only one overweight. So are the english and us aussies. Americans eat a lot of sweet stuff, and they eat bigger serves than we do, but the english tend to use gallons of lard when cooking at home whereas americans and aussies would use a little margarine. Basically, your average westerner is a fat prick, no matter what country you're in.

    Not every slashdotter is an unwashed ex uni student who thinks it's a good idea to open the doors to anybody who rocks up in shitty clothing. Personally I've been quite happy with the way the government has handled the refugees. They're detained so they (don't often) get away while their status is determined, and the real refugees are allowed in, the rest shipped out.

    Actually I think you'll find 95% of them are MARKED as region 4, but play any discs. All sony DVD players are these days (have been for quite some time). most places will not stock (or admit to stocking) reigon-free DVD players I've spoken to a sony rep as I was worried my player wasn't region 0, and he said no worries, and he was right. Show me one place that sells dvd and won't stock sony?

    "We Are Sorry" is not an apology. It's an expression of sympathy, not an admission of being at fault. I don't know if said PM of canada also apologised, so I can't speak for the rest of the ceremony.
