    "Just because you don't like it, you are trying to make it seem illegal" you still haven't said a single word to help support your argument.

    and JUST BECAUSE YOU 'YELL' DOSEN'T MAKE WHAT YOU SAY ANYMORE COMPELLING.

    that was acutually the point that i read "Doesn't that *SOUND* illegal to you?" was the point you completely lost me.

    i am not a lawyer, and creating something as an alternative to windows doesn't sound illegal to me at all

    there is no argument in you argument. no backing up of your claims. you don't establish how "bundle them all together so that they are a free alternative to Windows" could possibly be illegal. by your logic. linux is illegal because it is being offered as a free alternative to windows.

    i used to work for this company that does mediation software for telecoms. at the time they were involved with y2k work for one of the major telecoms. they had presented a cost to said telecom for work to be preformed. i don't remember the amounts anymore. but the original was something like 10,0000 dollars.
    siad telecom responded back thak can't be right its too low. so my company 'reworked' the bid and added a line like 'testing' or something bogus +50,000 dollars.

    the telecom then accepted the new bid.
    nothing in reality changed except the telecom had to pay more money

    i never really understood the logic there.

    i'm really tired of hearing how hard the linux desktop is.

    once upon a time, when i first started using them

    windows 3.1 was hard!
    windows 95 was hard!
    windows nt was hard!
    os2 was hard!
    macintosh was hard!
    kde was hard!
    cde was(is)hard
    gnome was hard

    no shit. i learned them they are no longer so hard. ('cept maybe windows,cde and gnome)
    each have their pluses and their quirks.
    but people learned win 3.1, hell people even learned DOS. (i know cli)

    i happen to like them in the following order

    os2
    kde
    mac(pre osx)
    win3.1
    gnome
    win95 nt4 2billion

    i think the current windows very difficult to use and i've been working with it since 95. i happen to think the kde2.0 is way better than windows 95/2billion. i havent tried out kde3 yet. i haven't had the missfortune of using xp yet.

    you learn them by using them. how does one (fill in your favorite gui trick). . .
    learn something in windows go over to mac. mac windows. there is always learning involved.
    windows keeps changing so i can never be sure of if what i used to know still applies.

    all i'm trying to say is sure linux is different but so,
    besides i really don't know what makes windows so much better. yet i keep hearing that FUD spread about.

    people put up with the windows bsod. there is very little in the way of kde annoyances that comepares with that

    just mix a few chemicals together and light. me and my brothers used to make these little rocket from match heads and foil to see who's would go further. now thats tough!!!

    i'll provide my own cigarette and blindfold.

    i happen to like it, but mostly in windows.
    (i'm forced to use windows at work. and yes, someone is holding a gun to my head.)

    it renders horribly in linux and has other problems both in linux and windows, but what they hey.

    it's kinda coolm to see comic sans create such a negative reation.

    it means my work here is done!

    i hadn't read it before. so i just spent a little time trying to get some background and nearly fell a sleep in the process.

    i didn't laugh and sometimes i couldn't even figure out what the lame attempt at a joke was.

    man this is a popular article. some important topics sometimes seem barely to break 100 posts. this trivial one, wow, 1500+ posts.

    for me i try to payattention to what my girlfriend likes wants etc. but i also have things that are important to me. my biggest is i don't go in for valentine's day. it's the concept, the marketing and the insincerity of the entire day i guess. i like to get flowers and do special things for her but because they mean something coming from the heart not some commercial telling me it's now the time.

    i let a gril know this up front so hopefully there won't be too many bad feelings there. but the artificalness of the entire thing puts me off. i think the same goes for the diamond. to me there are many more meaninful ways of showing caring commitment etc. symbols are important, but shouldn't be a substitute for . . . .

    heck, i lost my train of thought. not too much sleep last night.

    I don't think the interface to the Windows OS was ever something people complained about

    wrong!

    i for one have been complaining about it since 95. and i think it just keeps getting worse. i actually liked 3.1 better as the desk top. i know kinda sick.
    but i favorite desk top of all time is still os/2 warp.

    i have to dissagree on 'The idea that Microsoft is paranoid and fearing Linux might be true, but is totally overblown. Microsoft fears any competition, the most likely competitor is Apple more than Linux.'

    2 reasons.
    1. i think bill the gates going down to peru indicates that linux, 'free software' is very threatening.
    2. apple requires new hardware. a more expensive option than installing linux on existing x86 hardware therfore makes it an easier option than apple and adds to the more threatening.

    thats just my opinon at the moment. subject to change without notice.

    i hole heartedly dissagree.

    unless the have changed receintly, i 've found the online documentation for both php and mysql the most frustraing. as i beginner, i spent countless frustrationg hours getting nowhere with the online documentation.

    almost all gpl free gnu open source documentaion about as helpful as continually hitting my self in the head with a hammer.

    first, just as with windows most of these are just perception. believe it or not, some people actually like windows better.

    Myth #1 - KDE is more integrated than GNOME
    yes, in my mind it is

    Myth #2 - KDE is easier to use
    well, i feel that it is. i keep using both, trying them out. i have some features in gome i like, but for me, kde is easier to use than gnome. i guess that just makes me mythical.

    Myth #3 - KDE is more popular
    well, again, it is more popular with me. and that's what really counts isn't it

    Myth #4 - Konqueror is the best Linux browser
    of course it is. it is my favorite linux browser along with opera. unfortunately i haven't found one browser that does everything for me in linux, but the same is true for windows also.

    ok, i'm running out of energy responding to this troll but the rest of it continues in the same way.

    i just read the stallman response.
    every time i read something from him i get the same respone. he first comes out as abrasive irritating and i say to myself 'shut the fuck up'. but the further i read the more i agree with his postion. why this dual reaction? maybe because both are true.
    i think he is taking the GNU/Linux a little far. but i tend to agree with his overall position.

    my feelings on the first part of his response is that his position could be better furthered 'education'the people at the talks. it feels to me with this point he is missing the opportunity to 'sread the word'.

    that's just my 2 cents worth

    i've been absolutly amazed about the lack of press opera has gotten on slashdot. this includes micosoft loosing ground to opera in europe, and microsoft having attempted to block opera.
