    I agree. I have an old 486 that will NOT boot unless I tell the BIOS that there are NO hard drives. I have to boot it via a floppy with a kernel on it.

    I agree. Having had ganglion cysts for a long time, I've used the smashing method when I needed to have a different pain in my wrist. It works.

    Well, it appears so.
    A search of 'Google self-awareness' does not reveal any evidence that Google *is* self-aware.

    Of course, a search-engine should not search itself, but a separate hidden Google could search the public Google...

    Maybe HAL has the answer.

    Well, according to google,
    A search for 'ask slashdot correct answer'
    returns 10,400 hits.

    A search for 'ask slashdot'
    returns 104,000 hits.

    Therefore, I would conclude that Slashdot going directly to the source immediately is very rare.

    Obviously YMMV.

    Why? They are blind to prior art and common sense today, why would you believe that the examimers not knowing the identity of the patent applicant would make any difference?

    This is to be expected. Imagine the atmosphere as a balloon. If you heat it, it will expand. And not only that, but it's surface area will stretch and become thinner. Now imagine that the surface area of the balloon is the earth's ozone. There is only so much to spread around, and it becomes thinner and thinner. In the case of the balloon, it will pop of course, in the case of the atmosphere, it will re-organize itself in whatever state the laws of phsyics decide it should be organized. I.E, the ozone "hole". My point here is that the ozone "hole" can exist not just because of CFCs, but also because of Global Warming.

    Oh, but they do. Windows is used, along with just about every popular OS (including Linux). Most likely, they want to check for vulnerabilities for viruses and trojans. Basically, they are admitting that they are locked in to using Windows, and are not in the position to phase it out.
