I just don't get it. Corporations exist for one reason, to bring value to their shareholders. Selling you a product is just a side effect of that. If people continue to buy a product that is crappy and broken the corporations does not care. I work for a bank and I greatly feel we do a dis-service to our customers. the right5 thing to do it to close up ship and tell them you could get a better banking experience ANYWHERE else. But we do not, we lie and cheat them and they give us money.

Once you get over "corporations care" and they learn that they solely exist to make money, you would if you owned stock in these companies, then you will see no problem.

I have no clue what a neo-libertarian is, but I know libertarians want full free enterprise with government out of business. They believe the government has nothing to do with the economy, but most people think that they congress critters can regulate them into a good paying job.

I love TiVo's interface and teh 30-second skip "hack". I will not take a PVR AND a Cable box. So several years ago I got a Sony SAT-T60 DirecTV/Tivo unit and loved every minute of it, it was bliss. Hacked in a larger drive and the varible bit rate recording, two tuners!

I have seen ReplayTV and Cox's (Scientific Atlantic) and they but suck interface wise. My wife love the 30 second skip, so she would like Replay's commercial skip, but the TiVo interface takes the cake.

So I move to where I cannot have a dish so I get Cox and buy a second hand Series 2 Tivo. Love it, but in a larger drive, Only hate the single tuner. So now i can get DirecTV but they ditched TiVo, and they new DVR sucks ass too. What was wrong, TiVo licening fees to high? Looked at Dish, their DVR sucks too.

So am in the market for a second DircTV Tivo, even though they no longer support it (they got to support their current customers) and my wife sees this new Series 3 and says we should just get that and stick with basic cable.

Also with people saying "I hope they die and go out of business" need to realize the more the better. Competion really helps inovation. Look at Microsoft, wiht barely little compention things go crappy. they STOPPED working on IE for gawd's sake. Now that Firefox is creating competion they fired up IE dev again. Also look at Mac OSX. I hated apple back in the System7 thru OS9 days. I think these OSes sucked. I would take my windows anyday. I am now jeolous of my Mac friends that run UNIX stuff right on their laptop and do not have to fight their OS. All becasuse they had to innovate to survive. And soon they will make MS start to innovate again. First step should be a UNIX/Linux kernel. That would help greatly.

  11. Re:A reaction to Apple's no "Intel Inside" sticker on Analysts Predict Dell to Use AMD · · Score: 2, Interesting

As far as I know Intel gives companies a break if they use the logo. For example the CPU cost $20 each, but if you put our logo on the box it is $18 each. I know also that if on commericals if they put the logo and chime in they get a chunk of money to help pay for the commercial.

So A: Apple pays more per CPU, or B: it was part of the deal years ago for Intel to get into Apple's pants.

Intel, AMD I could care less who I buy. Who ever gives me more bang for the buck. Usually that was AMD in the past for me. I am glad Apple is moving to a more mainstream CPU since it will have more R&D behind it and lower manufacturing costs since they push more units.

  12. going to turn everyone into non-media users on Digital Content Security Act · · Score: 1

All the MPAA and RIAA is doing, is making more people turn away from TV and movies and music. For example I am already turned off of music. I am supposed to by a CD, well I listen to most of my music in the car, so the CD is in the car, getting wreaked and melted, etc. No thanks. Since I paid for a "license" to the CD if it gets reacked I should be able to get it replaced for a small fee, like $2, but no I have to buy a whole new one.

I like movies a lot, but I own only a few DVDs. Why do I want to see the same movie over and over again, unless it is Office Space, that never gets old. TV has me really bummed for all the commerical...and I got to pay out the ass for cable with 60 channels of crap and only 3 channels I actually watch, and those are TiVo'ed. Wihtout TiVo I would probally never watch TV.

So really all they are doing is turning a next generation into non-media people. In the long run they will be losing money.

I don't see any reason why I cannot pay a monthly fee and be able to watch anything at anytime. I pay Netflix about $20 a month for the last 7 years for something close to this. They carry everything. Now i just need a Netflix that really uses the Net and simply streams Movies, TV, etc to me. And since most good TV shows end up on DVD anyways, no need for TV anymore. No need for Cable/Satelite either. High speed Internet and DVD on demand service, if it is the right price.

For example when I got the last TV it came down to a Sony Wega or a Panasonic Tau. Both had the flat CRT and all the specs lined up really well. The difference. Sony was several hundred dollars more. $500 for the panasonic, $750 for the Sony. The last thing I bought Sony was my DirecTiVo, SAT-T60.

I will not go all the way to "Boycott Sony" as with every purchase I will evaluate all the choices, but things like this really but a bad mark on them.

I block ads for 3 reasons
    1. I dislike clutter and junk. I visit a webpage for the content. Not the crap floating around trying to sell me something.
    2. Spyware relief. This was a bigger issue when I was using IE, but I noticed all my spyware was coming from these banner ads. They either tried to install some ActiveX or exploited some hole to install it without asking. for example on my Father's compter. Every month he would have 30 new spyware apps installed. Once I install this hosts file, I see one or none installed.
    3. I rarly is never buy anything because of an ad. If I want something I will go out and get it. I guess ads are only good for one thing... telling me of something that I never new existed. That might be fine for some closed off old grandma but I am pretty much in the know.

I also dislike Spam for obvious reasons, but hate junk mail and phone calls. I either throw junk mail on the floor in the post office or save it and return it in the pre paid envelopes. Since the post office got paid to give me the junk I figure they can pay someone to throw it in the trash. On TV I have TiVo so I can skip threw the commercials in a few seconds. No TiVo in the bedroom and we scream becasue our eyes bleed from the crappy commercials. I also do not answer my door. Anyone who knows me knows to call first. Evry time I opened the door when it was not expected it was someone selling or pushing something. They get the door slammed in their face.
