My tip for you to get updated beofe your NIC gets to you is to find a few super long phone cables and run them over to your neibors house. Buy him/her a 6 pack in exchange of using his/her phone for a few seconds. Toll free and all.

Anyone asks me what time it is, I pull out the cell phone and look. Heck it even gets updated from the phone company so it is always on time.

It also bugs me when people have clocks and calculators on there desk at work. The computer has those things too, just a few clicks away.

Another note. I just got new Business cards and I DID NOT but that fax number on it. I showed it to a friend and they whined. I said, first if all in the 4 years I have been here I have NEVER received a fax, second e-mail or call me if you need to fax me something, third DON't FAX ME, send it as an e-mail attachment.

  9. My DirecTV vs Adelphia Cable experience on Cable TV Versus Satellite TV? · · Score: 1

I had Cable TV until a few years ago. Here is my experience and why I switched to DirecTV.

With Cable when it rained it got very staticy due to rain seeping into the crappy cable connections on the poles. Calbe was also very expensive and did not carry very many channels. Finally they got Sci-Fi and then a few months later moved it onto Digital cable so I had to pay even more.

Digital Cable was great wiht the menu but instead of static, it pixelated sometimes so bad the scrren when totally black. Also the menu guide only filled half the screen, the other half was 2 ads for PPV. I thought it was lame I was paying $60 a month to have ads on my screen.

I finally moved to a plce where Satelite was an option and I got a DirecTiVo and loved it ever since. Rain. nor wind affects it. A tree did once start to grow in front of it but a few snips and the picture was clear as a bell again.

I can see wind being a problem if the dish is not aimmed right or not tightened down, but I just paid a guy $60 to install it and he did it all good. Also my Satelite bill is $40 with locals and tivo. No need to premium channels as I have netflix. I get all the channels I want Sci-fi, comedy cnetral, techtv and even the nasa channel. I was super cool watching them land those rovers. Adelphia does not have techtv nor cmoedy central yet.

I would have to second that motion. I heavy customize my start menu. When I was on Windows 200 I almost solelt used the quick launch. Every app I used was on there. Now With XP my desktop is clean except for the few current projects. I am grossed out when I soo co-worked with their entire desktop filled wiht icons. Of course my real desk is totally clean too. I hate clutter.

I have very specialized folder in the start menu. CD Apps, Multimedia, Internet Apps, Office Apps, Creative Apps, Utility Apss and so on. Wehn I install a new app I copy the one icon to the correct folder. Say I install a DVD player. I copy the icon to its EXE to the Multimedia folder. Then I delete its old folder along wiht all the links to uninstall, readme, drive speed test, etc. All the crap I will never ever use.

I also add to mu PATH variable. For example Putty. I copyed its folder location to my PATH, now I just Hold down Start, hit R then type putty and boom it starts.

Just waht works for me. I think Icons, menus etc are here to stay just like strering wheels and pedels in the car will.

I am currently very disapointed in AMD mainly due to their sleazy naming convention like Athlon 2800. To the average idiot that seems like the speed, but it is not. So then there is a argument that the number means the chip is comparable to an Intell chip of that speed. Benmarks show that to be bull.

Nope, I am looking at an Intel for my next Rig. I like Hyperthreading and the new 875 chipset. I am holding out for a Prescott chip. At this point I want a paper bill to come in the mail. I then scan it then PDF it. I then have multi page PDFs that print out nicely. I then have the bills shreaded and recycled.

All but 2 of my bills have auto-payment to debit/credit card. I have them go against my credit card then pay off the cr4edit card each month. I would do it against my debit card (aka checking account) but then I would be affraid of a bill hitting it with not enough money in there. Billing the the credit card solves that problem.

I also have a speadsheet that lists which bills are paid with what paycheck, so that way I do not miss any bills. When Iget the paper bill usually it has already been baid, either automatically or becasue it was on my speadsheet. I find things like Quicken way too complicated.

So at the end of each month I pay 2 credit card (online), write my rent check and car payemtn check and pave about 15 PDFs all nicely sorted in folders. I think it is a very good system.
