I work on a couple of OSS projects, and I see it as my personal quest in life to hunt down and kill anyone who "reports a bug" in the code that I wrote. Actually, I do that with ANYONE who questions me.
Please e-mail me your name, so I can tell our IT dept, economy dept. and human resources dept. to NEVER EVER EVER hire you or consult you or even talk to you. Please.
Actually, I think the news headline will read more in the neighbourhood of:
"Kids who made soybean powered car dead of heart attacks, car accidents and freak houshold machine mishaps. No involvement of NSA is suspected. (This message paid for by the Oil Producing Companies of America)"
"The new formula will be presented to an international workshop at Edinburgh's Royal Observatory in April, which will be given the opportunity to test and debate the reworked theory. Dr Zhao and Dr Famaey will demonstrate their new formula to an audience of Dark Matter and gravity experts from ten different countries."
Seriously; I hate Bush - and religious fanaticism - more than most people, but parent post is no more than a troll or flamebait! The current NASA situation is not a result of the current administration as it is a result of years and years of under-funding and beating the PR dead horse called Space Shuttle. Regretfully, NASA has no viable alternative but to keep the Shuttle in service, despite it being an old, inefficient, money-guzzling launch platform.
At my current employment, I have refused receiving a company cell phone - I don't want my employer to reach me when I'm not at work! I CERTAINLY would not accept my employer tracking my movements! If the company I worked for implemented such a technology, I would quit - plain and simple.
If my employer has any reason to believe that I'm screwing him, he can damn well take it up with me, not play Big Brother.
"Our engineers were thinking that determining whether a movie is good or bad could be similar to determining whether e-mail is spam or not," said Unspam Chief Executive Prince, 31, who loves the festival and uses it as a recruiting tool. "We had the last 10 years of the festival's film guides, which are like inputs, and then a bunch of outputs, like how many people saw a film, did it win anything at Sundance, did it have commercial success. If you could figure out the pattern between the inputs and the outputs, then you could actually predict future winners."
I'm not a Spam guru so please excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't 81% a horrible result? Perhaps not for movie prediction but in Spam filtering?
This is the first HE hack I've seen on/. that made me go "I wanna do that!". Perhaps it's because photography has become a bigger hobby of mine than computers?

First Proust: Desire makes everything blossom; possession makes everything wither and fade.
"It's entirely possible that the media sources we trust to be accurate are actually riddled with errors."
I'm SHOCKED, I tell you! SHOCKED!!!
Well, actually, not that shocked.
I'm confident that his grandmother was Norwegian.
GO NOOOOORWAAAAAAAAAYYY!!
Yep, definately a Nelson voice.
"Just confirms my theory that technology accentuates stupid"
That would be "technology accentuates stupidity"
I can only hope that you are able to enjoy the irony.
Apparantly, Billy West is unable to see into the future...
For those of us who DON'T have a BN acronyms in a LUT in our heads, EFI means "Extensible Firmware Interface". Read up on Wiki.
"You are" != "your"
"You are" == "you're"
"you're better off writing your own system, IMO"

Naturally, the head of the university is afraid of brain tumors. What else would he be afraid of?
Ba dam dum!
Thank you, I'll be here all week! Have a safe drive home folks.

OMG. Best. Comment. Ever!
You, Sir, are an artist!
OMFG, your comment is funny on so many levels it's scary!
"Sony is after something much bigger than the gaming market with the PS3."
Yes, I think it's safe to assume that the PS3 will be used for WMD's.

So, a company claims that their product (or in this case; algorithm) is good?
STOP THE PRESS!
"Has this guy lived or what?"
WARNING: Clicking on the link in parent post is bound to result in severe depression and feelings of inadequacy!
It takes less than 50 milliseconds for Slashdot editors to post the same article twice!
This is the first HE hack I've seen on /. that made me go "I wanna do that!". Perhaps it's because photography has become a bigger hobby of mine than computers?
"What Should People Understand About Computers?"
Really just two things: 0 and 1.
"So how many points of damage does a mag-lev elevator do?"
A failing one? Your life + 1.
