They obviously need more incentive to check their work. The security holes are their fault, not yours. If you're worried about them shooting the messenger, post anonymously. "

This comes down to Cisco needing more incentive to check their work. They're the "best" router company or something, there should be NO security holes. They should pay a few people to check for security problems EVERY DAY for EVERY PRODUCT. They have the money.

Anyway, this lawsuit has solidified one thing in my mind: I will never buy another piece of Cisco or Linksys hardware. (And it's hard to turn down Linksys stuff... the WRT54G is great and I hear their $99 storage gizmo is cool too. But I have to look elsewhere, Cisco deserves to go out of business.)

Maybe because there is a legitimate need of not having your printouts tracked? And because they're the Electronic Frontier Foundation, not the Gun Frontier Foundation.

Anyway, the gun tracking is mostly looking for manufacturing defects that somehow mark up the bullet as it's fired (scraping off pieces of metal as it's shot through the barrel). Gun makers are not intentionally putting tracking data on to the bullets!

Nope. It's a combination BNC / threaded coax thing which I can't seem to find anywhere. Very proprietary. Having small batches of these crappy connectors made is probably a lot more expensive than a standard BNC plug/jack set. Oh well, yet another government regulation that costs the taxpayers money (needlessly!).

It's based of the BSD kernel, and you can run said kernel by itself, without Aqua. Why the hell would they include Aqua in the car?

Specifically, what does their version of BSD (darwin) do that a free BSD couldn't do? I mean, why bother with it? I don't see the point of using OS X unless it's on a desktop. (Actually their X serves are nice for a server, too...)

What would be news for nerds would be a profile of the competition and the non OS X entries. But no, all we get is an article about how good Apple is because some robot is run by their OS. Great.

I'll also note that the same article has been on Apple's "start page" (the default site for Safari) for over a week.

Staying on topic :), I don't see the point of running embedded systems with OS X. OS X is a nice OS because of the usability factor. But a control system doesn't need a shiny GUI and integration with your iPod. So I think FreeBSD or Linux might have been a better choice... what specific Aqua/Cocoa feature was used here?

I think a lot of non-Linux users think the goal of Linux is to take over the world and be the only OS out there. No. Most of ue hardcore Linux users just want something that works for us. We don't care if grandma can use it or not because we're not grandma!

There are some people that want Linux to be a desktop OS. OK, fine. Good luck to them. But that's their project, not mine. If you want Linux to be easier to use, you have two choices: 1) write the code to do this. 2) donate money to someone who will do this. Otherwise STFU and buy a Mac or Windows box.
