Your homeowner's association may SAY you can't have a dish, but according to the Federal Government, you are allowed to have one, as long as it's all contained on your property. This was to prevent cable companies from paying off homeowner's associations to make satellite TV illegal. Fuck the cable companies, fuck the homeowners. Get a nice big dish :)

Is sending you an email that you don't want spam, also? As I said above, it's a slipery slope as to what spam really is. Sure there are obvious examples of spam; and sure, people abuse the uncertantity about what spam is.

But if you think about it, the more demand for a product, the lower the price goes. If the spammers are demanding lots of bandwidth, then they're pushing costs lower. So sure, they're stealing $.50 a month in your CPU cycles, but they're lowering the cost of bandwidth by $1.00. So you win in the end.

I don't have any numbers to back this up, but it seems to make a small amount of sense :)

I told you, don't use email. There's no gun to your head.

How much is a CPU cycle worth, anyway? I could see you getting mad if people came to your house and drained your car of gasoline and left a message saying "FREE G4$ ON1IN3", but that's just not what's happening. GIMPS is stealing MY CPU cycles by FORCING me to run mprime. Oh wait, I chose to run mprime. Just like you chose to accept the email.

I know it's inconvienient to not use email. But if you're running a server to accept messages, then you have to accept everything. What's next? Webmasters that reject connections based on your race? "No negros on MY webserver!!!!"

(Yes, I use an extreme example. But what do you consider spam? What about when spam is a message from Howard Dean, and the current administration wants it blocked. Can they legislate that?

It's a slippery slope, so that's why I prefer to take the spam at the expense of some dumb ads that my filter gets anyway. *I* want to do the censoring.)

I know nobody likes spam, but if UUNet carries 90% of spam, it's their own bandwidth that they're wasting. And if it were truly being wasted, UUNet would kick the wasters off. But it's making them money. So they don't care.

Look at it this way. The spammers are financing you slashdot/pr0n habits. So who cares? You're not really hurt personally. (I know, I know. Spam is such a HUGE waste of time. You know what? Nobody has a gun to your head forcing you to use email. Sorry.)

Fuck building codes. If you're saving the town money (if more people use more water, they need a new water treatment center), they should at least make it legal to do so. Also, who the fuck decided that they can tell you what you can do to your own house? If I want to do a shitty job (haha) installing a toilet, that's my right. It's my toilet and my house. If banks or insurers want to make rules, fine. It's technically their house. But it is NOT the government's house!!

What's next? Computer code? "You can only overclock your computer by 500MHz on Tuesdays and you must have 4.8 fans per gigaflop."
