Yeah i agree. i was working at usyd when mosaic and netscape came out. i thought mosaic was better than the early versions (probably beta) of netscape anyway. The feeling i had at the time, and looking back about the technology was how totally obvious it was, how simple; it hardly seemed like an innovation at all - just something that had always been there just waiting to be used.
As for netscape, i never really got it, it was a good product but hardly revolutionary or brilliant in a tech sense. It was a great get_rich_quick scheme tho....
Sure the comment was a throw away, but considering the difficulty IBM has in bringing its user appeal up to scratch with its technical achievment, i reakon they will miss apple - who were a constant (whining, bitching, complaining, sneaky) reminder that there is more to life than tech spec. Just think of OS2 vs Win, OS2 technically great but just not friendly to anyone without a comsci qualification.
Well now they were refering to medical research; which is kind of like the humanities of the hard sciences - so really, who knows - as long as i can still get my viox.... oh wait... damn!
, it does seem like a setback towards replacing failing organs with fully artificial ones." Whats with the general intelligence of geekdome. Why is every attempt to keep technology up to human interface standards considered a slight to technical progress? Why not just say we are too stupid, at the moment, to build a heart that is good enought to actually work! ggrrrrr aaahhhrr
Bill Gates said this was certain to happen when the G5 was released - as did Intel. And it happened. So now i can have a fast Mac laptop - Yay! otherwise, who cares.
That wouldnt work as doctors use it for MUCH more than a database entry tool. THere is far too much information for any human to carry around in Medicine (Medline over 3 million entries). THe PDA gives the ability to search databases such as Cocharane or Medline or refer to a text such as harrisons while doing his or her rounds. Very necesarry - you dont even get out of med school these days without using heavily. And it is all on PALM OS
Dont be daft.... the idea of citrix is to bring windows functionality to unix. Since they are locked into windows apps citrix is needed to get their unix terminals to talk windows.
(usually the type that turns my bedroom light on in the middle of the night)
Bloddy hell, that would freak me out too. My only phenom is that my mobile phone "disconnects" my keyboard from my PC every time it checks in and is next to the cord - very annoying. Can you imagine what the EMR is doing to the Na/K pumps in our neuron's.....
This website does little to discredit SCO, i think it makes IBM look like cronies. If you look at thescoinformationministers reasoning, it was, initially, an attack on IBM. IBM was quiet but the whole open source community then dug their knives in and SCO went after them.
Lets just imagine that IBM really were feeding SCO source code into Linux - wouldnt you feel ripped off and go after them?
Here we go again - the fuck_it_up cycle .... it was a good product for a while!
Some of us paid money for this shit
Why?
All things being equal, i dont think this is the most simple explanation.

Whatever ...
it is hardly relavent to a conversation on the use of PDA's for medical purposes

We dont have to trust it, only those who subscribe to the technology need to.
there is a fair wallop more current going through the grid than cable. it would be easier to pick up EM flux - especially from telegraph pole cables.
too many securith issues, at that current your neighbour could sit in their loungeroom and get all the gosss...
Well done brothers, the love scene sux but otherwise spectacular!
Life... is what happens to you while you're busy making plans...
LIFE is what happens to you while you are busy posting on Slashdot
But still - it may introduce just that little bit more gut renching almost reality; just enough to send me hugging the toilet.
Can you imagine how sick you would get playing the original DOOM onthis??
yeah mee too really - but you could imagine it the other way, to an ignorant judge, with only the benefit of hyndsight.
