Before I was allowed to have a copy of these photos, I had to had to sign a contract that limited my ability to reuse the works.
So let me see if I understand, someone had the only copy (or one of a very limited number of copies) of something you wanted to copy. They wanted to keep their scarce resource scarce, so they made you agree to contractually limit your copies of it before they'd let you get at it.
Doesn't sound like anyone is claiming copyright here, just setting rules on your seing *their copy* of something.
However, it is not on THOMAS a minimum of 5 days before any non-emergency bill is passed. There is also no ability to comment on THOMAS (that's not the point of THOMAS).
[President Obama] will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.
Car: About 3600 kg for an average car (http://www.terrapass.com/carbon-footprint-calculator/) Volcanoes (average for all of them each year): 130,000,000,000 kg (http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/hazards/gas/index.php) Didn't find anything on one volcano.
So about 36 million cars = all the volcanoes for CO2 emissions.
From the rules on the site: NASA will take into consideration the results of the voting. However, the results are not binding on NASA and NASA reserves the right to ultimately select a name in accordance with the best interests of the agency, its needs, and other considerations. Such name may not necessarily be one which is on the list of voted-on candidate names. NASA's decision shall be deemed final.
The "operator" is the casino, or bank. They trust themselves.
Like hell they do. You think they trust the guy who comes and services the slot machines? I assure you they do not. They probably have hidden cameras to watch the people watching him on hidden cameras.
A smarter plan would be to have a cell phone that charges by being in your pocket while you walk around during the day. Sort of like the flashlights that you shake to get a charge.: http://www.modernoutpost.com/gear/details/ee_shakelight.html
IANA-Electrical Engineer, but seems like a more common use case than a phone sitting in direct sunlight. (I'm sure the whole thing is just a 'look at us - we're green!' marketing stunt anyway) (Not that I RFTA'd or anything like that)
If they are making people pay more for Linux, then I can see that being an anti-trust issue.
But if they are charging more for an older version that they'd prefer you not use - then that's just their marketing decision. Vote with your pocket book, and buy your PC elsewhere if you don't like it (or buy a Mac even).
is that we in the west find the idea of us being subjected to the risk of malaria extremely offensive. On the other hand, how many of us are raising a protest about people in developing nations being subject to exactly the same disease?
1. Natural exposure in the wild != someone intentionally exposing others.
Not that that's what happened here, but your ridiculous statement equates the two. 2. Malaria aside, mosquito bites are annoying. Intentionally causing someone to get is a pretty asinine move. Add the implied initial threat that they were malarial vectors - and I'm sure one of the attendee's will be suing any day now. (and they deserve to win)
Well it sounds like QoS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quality_of_service) to me. Not that I RTFA or anything, but just based on your own summary (where you conclude throttling) their plan sounds perfectly reasonable. Of course VOIP, Gaming, Streamed Video, etc are very time-sensitive. If your VOIP call gets held up for just a second or two it'll be a big pain. If your P2P download of the latest Linux distro (I'm assuming you were using that P2P for something legal) take 15.5 minutes instead of 15 minutes, its a lot less noticeable.
Ahhh - That's what they tried to do with handguns, and actually did in Massachusetts.
They must have already passed that in Missouri too -- all of our handguns make a noise when they are fired. They seem to be permanently set on the 'car backfiring' setting too. I tried changing mine to 'birds chirping' to be less conspicuous, and all I ended up with was a bunch of dead birds.
What idiots -- Illegally contact people that you already know are especially hostile toward dealing with you. How many sales do they actually expect to make?
Enrico Fermi, who won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1938 for his work on nuclear fission, offered side odds on the bomb destroying all life on the planet.
Assuming he's betting on the "No" side, he probably should have got a prize for economics too. If you're right -- you win money. If you lose -- everyone's dead anyway so you don't have to pay! Its a win-win proposition.
It's been a while, but I thought F=MA was just the high school physics version. I thought it was originally F = d(mv)/dt. If mass is constant then you can simplify it to F=MA, but if it isn't then its still correct just that mass is now a function of time also (so you can't simplify).
Here you go. I'm sure this solution has shown up on slashdot before:
1) Visible Encrypted Volume containing:
a) Pr0n
b) Hidden Encrypted Volume containing:
i) Naked pictures of Bea Arthur, or otherwise freeky (but legal) Pr0n
ii) Suspicious looking but legal plans to take over your local condo board
iii) Hidden Encrypted Volume containing:
A) Your top secret plans to take over the world
If you get the court order then give them the key for 1). If they get pushy, then give them the key for b). Act like you have no idea about iii)

fermentosecond ?
Is that a measure of how long it takes to get drunk at Quarks?
It's all on THOMAS - eventually.

Don't get me wrong -- I think THOMAS is great, it just doesn't do what Obama's promise said:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/promise/234/allow-five-days-of-public-comment-before-signing-b/

Howard Stern will be so happy. Wait, what?
I assumed there was some sort of API anyway, I assumed thats what sites like opencongress.org were using:
http://www.opencongress.org/
Really, what do you expect from the Oklahoma legislature anyway -- they're all descended from a bunch of apes anyway.
I'm waiting until GM's stock price hits $0.00 -- then I'm buying the whole thing for the $9.99 etrade commission.
Then I'll fix this for you guys :-)

So, what if I hire one of the recently unemployed to read the book aloud while sitting next to me? Is that a copyright violation?
How about these idiots let me use my content the way I want to use my content - so long as I don't redistribute it?
Don't worry, it wasn't a DOS attack. That was just the Internet becoming self-aware.
OK, on second thought, maybe worrying is in order.

You have to Cancel or Allow on every site...?
I use Windows Vista, you insensitive clod! I've clicked cancel or allow so many times I can do it in my sleep now.

One conclusion is that the whole division of bacteria into species may well be over-used in biomedicine.
Dear Slashdot,
Please use one of my mod points for today to mod the species taxonomy thingy +1 Insightful.
Thank you.

(Ok maybe win-win isn't the right term here)
That's only fair. He's the president for all the robot-american's also. They should be able to access the site as well.
And if you don't agree, you can "kiss my shiny metal ass."
1. Have the Large Hadron Collider create a black hole.
2. Throw hard drive into black hole
3. ???
4. Profit
