    As for discouraging teem pregnancy, I am again lost... do you mean that if they just layed an egg they wouldn't be "pregnant" in the common sense of the word? If anything, I rather imagine these eggs would be a lost easier to dispose of than an internally embedded fetus...

    One eye in the head might be sufficient if we augmented our senses with sonar, like bats and dolphins do. Then we could map our environment for 360 degrees, and even see into solid objects.

    I recall reading a book in grade school that featured a scene wherein a cryptographer breaks that system.

    The crack is that the diameter of the rods will generally be something easily held in the hand. The cryptographer simply has a selection of sticks of various diameters in his desk, and he just tries each one until the letters line up evenly.

    (Anyone remember what book that might have been?)

    The DoD waived the Ada requirement long ago. They encourage it but don't require it.

    I've worked on a few subsystems for the military in the the last few years, and when we mention that we use C, they do nothing more than nod their heads and move on to the next subject. They're typically more concerned with how we archive the source code.

    Have you tried to get a refundable ticket lately?

    Just last year, my wife and I were booked on a flight when she got sick (on the way to the airport!). $100 rescheduling fee per ticket, right there.

    Can we transfer our tickets to her parents, who fly on the same airline a lot anyhow? Nope - tickets are non-transerable, non-refundable, and must be used within a year.

    The problem is that my wife is (probably) not going to be able to travel within the year.

    Looks like I blew about $900 on a flight I'll never take.
