So, like, having never been a sci-fi geek or terribly fond of movies in general, I haven't seem Blade Runner or, most likely, any other movie you'd name off the top of your head. But I'm trying to go back and educate myself a bit. I figure this is as good a place as any to ask what good, intelligent sci-fi films I should see.
To give you some idea what I'm looking for, I just watched "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (which was rather courageous in its subtle criticism of the Cold War) and thought it was great. I liked the concept behind the first Terminator movie but was left wondering why the sequel was so popular. I certainly think 2001 is great. Oh, and Metropolis!
So yeah, if you could recommend just a few (since I almost never watch movies), which would you choose?
Of course, it's commercialism that really made the movie industry the way it is today, not Star Wars, but Lucas has the dubious honor of having been the catalyst.
(Personal note: the childhood memory of mine that makes Star Wars kinda special to me is not so much the movies themselves, but going on the Star Wars ride at Disneyland not long after I saw it for the first time.)
Actually, Dextromethorphan is OTC. It replaced the morphine and codeine in OTC cough syrups. It's not an opiate, but it just happened to turn out to be a psychedelic of the disassociative type. You know, out-of-body experiences and the like.
At lower, super-therapeutic but sub-disassociative doses, one would still have the ability to perform actions in the real world and just might be stupid enough to drive.
After 14 years of graduate school, Farnsworth settled into the glamorous life of a scientist: Fast cars, trendy nightspots, beautiful women -- the Professor designed them all working out of his tiny, one-room apartment.
Well, think of it like this... The people who have that basic understanding of the matter involved aren't going to defend the action taken by the court until someone else comes along and decries it first.
So complaining about the court's actions, replying to those complaints, and discussion what exactly the court should order are really the only things to be talked about.
I think you're kind of riding a slippery slope with this mentality--how could another browser (like Firefox's rise to marketshare) ever make it now that the top few are being bundled?
The same way Firefox rose to its current marketshare while the top 1 was being bundled. Just make it so that once a new browser gains a certain percentage of users, it gets into new copies of Windows.

I think you're more right than you realize. This is a guy who desperately needs a reason to live, and fighting video games is all he's got.

I mean, you can make hooch in the bathtub - you can even make it in prison. But it's not very good.
I dare you to spend a year in prison and repeat that statement.
Oh, the government can try all sorts of things. But it can't fundamentally change the operation of the market economy.
