  1. Not Terribly Helpful on String Theory in Two Minutes · · Score: 1

These videos don't really help me much. They say that different particles are defined by their strings (or the frequency of said strings, or something like that), then go on to mention some interesting implications like extra dimensions. The thing I'm interested in in the first place is WHY the strings define the particles and WHY it implies extra dimensions. Granted, that's way too much, I'm sure, to answer in a two-minute video, but that WAS the goal of the contest. In other words, I think everyone lost.

  2. Re:first explain it to physicists... on String Theory in Two Minutes · · Score: 1

so... let's create some hype for the masses to consume and maybe publish a book or two and some opeds with the NYT! Perhaps us "masses" are interested in the theory enough to want some basic idea of what it is.
  3. Re:Most important thing on GIMP 2.4 Released · · Score: 1

Yeah... with BitTorrent, pirating has become easier than ever. Probably have the users of Photoshop are pirates. As far as I and probably the rest of them are concerned, there's nothing immoral about pirating a piece of software you'd never possibly pay for anyway. (Having said that, I still use Gimp, in case you're interested.)

Well... I don't agree with your major point, but I'd like to express my great agreement with your point about ALTTP being a hundred times greater than anything that came after it. Ocarina gets all the praise... nonsense! Oh, and the original Zelda game was better than everything else other than ALTTP. 2D Zelda >>>>> 3D Zelda. Ocarina was certainly *good*, though.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned it yet, but: ...That's all the airport security left him with. Okay, I'm not gonna make fun of you for typing "noone" instead of "no one". Grammar is the worry of people with nothing to say. BUT, if I ever have a daughter, I think I'm going to name her "Noone". (P.S. Notice how I started that last sentence with "but"? Ha!)
  10. Legalize It! on Canada May Tax Legal Music Downloads · · Score: 1

The surcharge would help compensate artists for piracy, according to SOCAN's reasoning. I highly encourage every Canadian citizen to write their congresspeople and senators (or whatever you freaks have) to encourage them to support this enlightened bill to legalize piracy.

Dude, get over it. No one (at least, no one technical enough to be on Slashdot) says that anymore. You may get one person making that claim (which, by the way, the great-grandparent post didn't), but you'll get ten people calling him or her wrong. Mac users need to get over their persecution complex.

  16. Nonsense on Human-Robot Love and Marriage · · Score: 1

This is either the work of someone in love with the philosophy of technology and totally divorced (get it? :D) from reality or, more likely, some jerk trying to (not-so-)subtly make a (very dumb) point against gay marriage. This should not be treated seriously.

  17. Annoyance on Gaming Usability 101 · · Score: 1

I agree with the part about cut scenes, but mainly for a different reason. There are many games where one might want to go back and reply a certain part to do it better and when there's a cut scene in the middle, it can be extremely annoying. They can also be annoying if one is playing the game for a second (or third, etc.) time.

  19. Money on Manhunt 2 Rejected By BBFC Again, Rockstar Appeals Again · · Score: 1

I realize that Rockstar has to worry about actually selling copies, but the libertine gamer in me wants Rockstar to love their appeal, say "fuck it" and release the game via download or whatever, with all the censorship removed. They should add in the hot coffee minigame for good measure.

Are you saying Apple threatens to attack users with Spotlight, iTune, iPhoto and Quicktime if they misbehave?
