    Not everyone, or even very many, who take a math class become mathematicians. You do know this, right? And even if they do, that still doesn't change the fact that the place to learn "proper" English is English class.

    I take it you rarely grade a couple of hundred exams. It makes a huge difference in how long it takes. And believe it or not, if I can choose between spending one or two weeks on grading exams, I choose the former.


    Sure, require your stupids to write "properly." Sure, hit them over the head if they don't. But having it effect their math grade doesn't make any sense.

    Open source is an idea whose time has come. And it was Victor Hugo who said: "You can't fight an idea whose time has come". Again, I suspect Microsoft knows this. Hence the Novell deal.

    I'm a Marxist. I don't know if this will ring true since you're probably not, but... Socialism is an idea whose time has come. It can sure as hell be fought, though. Open source will probably, like socialism, never go away but it can be fought indefinitely. We communists have learned to not talk of inevitability.

    This is not from the Minority Report that was released in 2002. This was shown in shuttle interface in Earth the Final Conflict which aired in 1997.

    This type of interface was also in The first $20 millions is the hardest. But that came out in the same year as The Minority report.


    Thanks for clearing that up. I guess this is why the call it "news for nerds."

    Very neat and completely useless. I don't know about you guys, but I find it much easier to find my data in my nice hierarchical filesystem than by digging through a garbage can fan full of papers, which is what this GUI simulates.

    Anyhow, the question needs to be asked: does a kid have no friends because she concerns herself so much with numbers, or does she concern herself so much with number because she has no friends? Both? Maybe it's being smart and shy that's the kiss of death.

    The solution seems simple to me. Move all the extra features to extensions, bundle those extensions with the browser, and turn them on in a "default" installation. Won't confuse your average user and would make the lean-and-meaners happy. Those of us with a bit more knowledge can disable the extensions we don't use, providing a benefit for people like me (and I suspect most others) who don't like to whine about Firefox bloat, but still think no more bloat than necessary is a good idea.

    I keep hearing this. It seems that this is one of those things people believe because they also keep hearing this. Is the "Kim Jong-Il is crazy" theory based on the fact that he's short and wears sunglasses or is there something more to it?

    sounds like wishful thinking. Seriously, that would be wonderfully wonderful, but it hasn't happened. I also think you're making the mistake lots of people make about Vietnam: they think that the anti-war movement ended the war. It may have helped, but the war was ended by the NLF and the Vietnamese people. Same here, Hezbollah "won" the invasion because of Hezbollah and the Lebanese people and their overwhelming support.

    How interesting that Hezbollah would have the shortsightedness to let this crucial knowledge publicly available. However, this can be expected when the primary morale boosting for troops and citizens is bragging about your capabilities.

    That's their primary moral boosting? Not the idea of protecting their nation against invasion? I suppose the vast majority of Lebanese civilians supported Hezbollah because they were mesmerized by it's boasting?
