  1. Better quality for games/voice? on Comcast's New Terms of Service Disclose Traffic Management · · Score: 1, Interesting

Hi, So I wonder, if they start throttling file sharing, will it improve the experience (reduce network latency) on sensitive apps like gaming and VoIP?

It seems like it hurts more to have your game experience be crushingly laggy versus having your ISO download take 5 extra minutes.

Of course I'm biased, but what's the rush to swap files?

I dumped cable after my internet (with too much lag to be effective on XBL) plus cable tv was $140. I went to DSL (slower, but less latency) for $35/month and OTA HD tv with a series 3 tivo. its' great. There are a few shows I kind of miss, but with a DVR, there's still enough on. I also wanted to get off the couch more, so i'm saving about $100/month and have gotten some free time back. I might do netflix in the winter.

for $399 you get an xbox with a HDD and a wireless controller, headset (how much more will PS3 games be if they have to each include a headset, ala SOCOM, which was $10 more, HD Component audio cables, etc. XBOX live is indeed an additional cost (for Gold), but it's optional, and you get some features for free in Silver, so I guess you have to decide what you need. So far, Xbox Live is unique in the market IMHO, and while not perfect at all, is a unique value.

I agree, you are going to spend 400-450 for a nice xbox setup, so you can "get going" with the Wii for much less $$$. It is however, much less than a PS3 (per the rumors) when you get similar accessories.

I think that many folks will buy either an Xbox or a PS3, and many of them will buy Wii's as secondary or "the kids'" consoles. YOu'll also get a lot of casual gamers if done right.

Lastly, I think if I had younger children, I would lean towards Nintendo as a gaming platform for them, as it has a more friendly attitude.

    Just my two cents.

There are some native 1080p tv's out there. I have on order a sony SXRD (Liquid Crystal over Silicon) projection tv that will do native 1080p.

I would encourage anyone looking at hdtv's to look at more than just the three mentioned. LCD panel, plasma panel are both good for tight spaces, but projection tv's are much better value if you have space.

There are 4 projection technologies in use today. CRT projection (falling out of favor), DLP (industry leader, but some people suffer from rainbow effects (i'm one of these people), black levels vary by set, some are great, some not. LCD projection, some folks have screen door effect issues, black levels and refresh rates are important to investigate, and finally, LCoS which sony sells a version of call SXRD. This is a chip that they reflect the light off of onto the screen, and of the projection sets, was the picture i personally prefered. The main point I'd give anyone buying an HDTV is to do your research (avsforum.com is great for this, they have a thread on almost every tv sold in north america) and to actually go WATCH the tv's you are interested in, you may be surprised at which tv you prefer. one note, the tv's in the showroom are usually way out of calibration, so sometimes the picture is better at home if you get a calibration done.

Xbox 1 titles (when new) were $50 plus sales tax = $53 USD

I think most european countries have a hidden VAT (value added tax) built into that price of $83. I've heard that VAT is around 17% in many parts of western europe and this would explain much of the price difference.
