I don't think that's the "failure" the OP had in mind. I'm sure almost all of the major-label CDs that ship have been market-tested, homogenized, researched and produced according to strict "least chance of failure" procedure.
I think the OP wants someone to sack up, make music with passion, soul and emotion, not formulae, and take their chances.

When was this "last time"? Our biggest theatres have the same setup, but a slightly higher cashier:kiosk ratio on busy nights.
Anyway, I use them all the time and there's usually a couple of people on each one. But one difference might be that since you can order tix online and merely pick up at the kiosk, the user only has to stand there for about 30 seconds and he's done. Maybe more people are using them than is immediately apparent?
I tend to favor stores where I *can* use the debit card because I *don't* carry cash and I hate signing charge slips.

Grandparent: You know what offends my morals? Watching a mother just dump her kid off in day care for the first 6 years of his life so she can drive a nicer car.
Parent: Maybe you were fortunate but I was raised in a single parent household (mom). And I can promise you: The last thing she was thinking about was driving a nice car.
Good point, AC, and if your scenario is true then all props to your Mom for doing the Right Thing.
However, of all the kids being dropped off in daycare, what percent are there because of both parents working for more than just the necessities?

The key word in your burn is "publicly". If I make a bid with 20 hours on the clock, odds are good the lasr high bidder will come back and possibly re-bid out of frustration and the "well, I *thought* I'd do 35, but man, I want it bad and I can go two measly bucks higher" mentality.
You're right, in that I'm trying to game the system. But I'm doing it within the rules and in a way that benefits me most. I'm not interested in boosting bids for people. I'm interested in getting the best deal possible.
And I also suffer from the "just one more bid" mentality. I went well past my intended limit on a signed PS2 game. I lost (almost certainly to a booster) and I wound up glad I did. I think the item might've been fake.
I'll also grant that sniping is inconvenient. A lot of things I bid on have non-US timezone ending times, and I'm on dialup. A recipe for frustrating late nights indeed!
GTRacer
- Never run from a Sniper - You'll only buy higher!
Why NOT sniping? eBay's gone out of its way to explain proxy bidding and make it easy to know how much time is left and to see approximate bid activity.
I snipe because I'm a cheap bastard and I hate getting into last-minute bid/counterbid wars over rare import games. I know it's a cheesy tactic, but it's not my fault if the current high bidder didn't set an appropriate max bid and I snipe, preventing him from re-bidding.
Others have already said it, set your max bid to the most you'll spend, and then stand back. Or snipe. There aren't too many other choices.
Now, I've only bought 16 things on eBay in my 3 years with them. And my first sale has yet to happen. But so far, I'm pleased with eBay and the sellers I deal with. For the most part, any single item I bid on is less than 50 bucks, and often 25, so if I were to get hosed it wouldn't be the end of the universe.
Entirely (?) removing CoolWWWSearch actually required running both programs.
In your troubleshooting, did you do any searches for info on Cool WWW Search itself? There's a purpose-built remover called CWShredder available at the bottom of that page, and lots of interesting info on the insidious nature of CWS.
A friend of mine had the "porno favorites" version and used the CWShredder successfully. I *DID* tell her about AdAware and SpyBot though, to guard against future infestations.
After all, the PSP is going to cost several hundred dollars...
Per the latest EGM (I think it was them, EGM or OPM - whatever) the PSP will be $150 without the wireless cart, and 50 bucks adds it. Which I kinda dig, because I don't expect to do a lot of wireless gameing.

Yup, but not in the greatest detail. If I had a need to do that on a regular basis (as a detective, etc.) I suppose I'd put more effort into trying to map everything.
But it's usually more fun to build the room to *my* specs or alter it in interesting ways. Kinda like Magrathea but a little smaller-scale.

Sorry so long to reply...Been a bit busy then went on holiday!
LINE INPUT works for the first problem (inputting lines containing commas) but the corrupt tag problem was a stunner. Turns out one of my MP3's (the Bjork song from brunching.com) had really FUBAR ID3v2 tags and I had to strip them out altogether. After that, it worked flawlessly.
As for dumping tags out, that's what I want Access to do for me, and now I have it working. Here's what my code does (basically):
I feed it a playlist which is really just every track in my library. The M3U is already a line-delimited file with path and filename, so it's a great easy starting point.
Working one line at a time, Access reads the path and filename and opens that MP3. It scans the chosen ID3v2 tags out, and then checks for v1 tags if the v2 was blank.
Once it's done, it adds a record of path, file, and chosen tags to an Access table and moves to the next line in the playlist.
Now I get the fun of figuring out how to build "meta-playlists" where I can easily define ranges of time and genres and let Access build the M3U.

RE: Your Number-2 Scenario - Daaaaaaaaamn! That is cold! But surprisingly effective and memorable I bet! When I started this job I made sure my PC had a burner in it. I make weekly backups of ALL my crap. I'd make full images but I'm on XP and I don't trust current free/Free options enough.
If someone did that to me (not likely, my wife doesn't even know my admin PWs) I'd be back up and running quickly. After having washed the blood from my hands...

I never did have the guts to "hint" him with, "What's your first name, Sir? Then put your I.Q. at the end. No, not your shoe size. Your I.Q. It's gotta be one digit..."
