Fellow/.'ers, please help me understand something about registrars and DNS:
Let's say I have a static IP address and a server running Apache and Pegasus mail (SMTP server). I don't have ANYTHING registered yet with anyone.
Now, assuming I can keep my IP static, or nearly so, what do I need at a minimum to route all http requests for "www.gtracer.com" to my IP, and to route all emails for "someuser@gtracer.com" to the same IP address?
I've never been able to get a good solid answer from the tech guy I worked with (very small company) and the different services (godaddy etc. don't explain it in a way I understand enough to commit $$$ to). TIA!
Isn't V'ger already out there? Shouldn't we prepare for the inevitable attack? I know I don't want my grandkids waking up and finding out V'ger is back, pissed, and sporting a new plaque: AYBABTU
Of course you could use Xrays, but that's not as portable.
You could always go with the F-Ray, which has a flashlight-based formfactor, long runtime, and can spot winning cans in soda contests. But keep it away from the 'jewels...
For the most part, electronics with no moving parts don't wear out, but a PS2, a microwave, and your toaster have non-solid-state parts that wear out.
CD drive motors eventually burn out, magnetrons burn out, heating elements burn out...
I've been lucky in that the PlayStation drive failure I had was on a 4-year-old deck with tons of play. My PS2 (notorious for drive and laser failures) has worked great for almost 3 years now, but I'm sure I'm eventually going to have to replace it. When GT4 comes out, and the PS2 is on 24/7...
...violent video games they played gave them the tools to perform their carnage.
So we should do something about all those Driver's Ed teachers since they gave all the DUI manslaughters the tools to perform their carnage? Oh oh oh, let's go after tobacco farmers for all the second-hand smoke deaths! And then, and then, uh...pharmaceutical companies for all the overdoses...um...

'Lashing NVIDIA's technology onto the PS3 architecture would simply make no sense either technologically or commercially.'
-1, Duh.
Seriously, does nVidia (or ATI for that matter) make any non-PC graphics cards or chipsets? MS-ATI made sense as the Xbox is pretty much a PC but as all the 3rd-party PS2 developers already know, the PS2 is a unique beastie!
How is having a very small microchip embedded in the can any odder than the barcode system currently in use?
<Disclaim>I haven't RTFA.</Disclaim>
As I understand it, the difference is that instead of knowing (through long-distance remote barcode scanning from a white pizza van) that you're drinking a 12 oz. can of Coke Classic, they'll know (through distributed RFID scanning - every lightpost's a narc!) exactly WHICH can you're drinking from a batch of millions.
And if you used any form of electronic commerce to buy it or the case it came in, they can tie your credit info financially AND geographically to that very can!
Imagine a future where Publix can sell you a cart of groceries, and a month later, play back a map/time sequence showing all those items going home with you, being stored, and then showing each product being used, taken to the park, eaten at work, etc! They'll know where you hide the Twinkies even if your wife doesn't!

...Nintendo indicated that a 'new game product' will be unveiled in Spring 2004...
Yes Yes Yes! Maybe this will be the new GameBoy Advance Ultra, with quality backlit screen, comfortable controls, PSP-beating graphics, backwards compatibility...
Of course, this model's "optional" component will be the battery pack.
Whereas, if they no nothing about you, they will assume that you are just a vacationer, and you can get a cheaper fare.
Do you really think ANY company, ESPECIALLY the airlines, would make such an assumption? More likely, they'd default to the highest rate possible until you cave and give them the demo data they seek...
Come on people! Mr. Garrison devised a superior alternative to air travel but got shot down by the airlines anyway! These people are bloodthirsty and ruthless.</hyperbole>

...How many of you out there are *actually* playing your PS1 games on your PS2???
Me? I am but one, but I will speak for those with no voice. Or something.
I play Vagrant Story, Jarrett & Labonte SCR and GT1 (Japanese) on my American and Japanese PS2's. And DDR. Mustn't forget 3rd Mix, 5th Mix, Konamix, etc...
The only reason I didn't find Ken Kutaragi and throw Ridge Racer V at him for launching the PS2 with such a suck library is that I could entertain myself with my then-unfinished PS1 games.
Side note - I'd be amazed if the PS3 could do PS1. I'm hoping PS2-compatibility is a shoo-in, but seeing as the trick that made PS1 work on PS2 wouldn't make complete sense chip-wise...
GTRacer
- Will import PSP if it's region-free like GBA!

Doesn't much matter: by buying the game, you've rewarded their earlier incompetence. Good job.
Where do you live that you do not have a games rental store nearby? I listen to a handful of reviewers (some journos, someGameFAQs posters [go Wolf Feather!])) and if I don't get a good vibe from them I'll rent first, or wait for a larger "review base", or wait for it to hit the bargain bin.
...you could not lend it over to some you trusted to pay at the resturant (At the end of galaxy;).
...But for meals at Milliways, you wouldn't NEED a cc as you've already paid the exorbitant cost of the meal by depositing one penny in your bank account before your arrival!
...Now I have to break down and buy an Xbox for the sequel? Well, I've been looking for an excuse to get one anyway and with the expected price drop, maybe...
Of course, I have to explain this to my wife, who I just convinced our son needs a GCN and Zelda: WW! She did like BFD's 'Matrix' scene, however. Maybe there's gaming hope yet!
