  1. Sounds like a case for the Advertising Lullaby... on Add-Ons Add Up · · Score: 4, Funny
Seeing this article reminds me SO much of George Carlin's Advertising Lullaby bit (gotta scroll down a bit for the script) :P

Basically he says that the marketing and advertsing people pull the wool over the eyes of the consumer with friendly deals and offers that the consumers dont realize they're being, as Carlin puts it, fucked in the ass! Good stuff, LOL :)

When you order the food, you wont have to wait in line for the old lady in front of you to buy 100's of cat food cans in the express lane, while trying to count her pennies...

Alright humor aside :), I think this would be perfect to people who either

    1. dont have a car to transport that stuff,
    2. dont have time to shop (sorry, but playing everquest doesnt count :)

That being said, It make me wonder how human interaction will take place when we're all doing our everyday errands from the comfort of our own home....

I remember that they also offered to ship a "companion disk" that eliminated the need to manually type out all that code, but it added a lot of money to the damn subscription price lol...

Forgive me if my memory is off, but i believe a one-year suscription was $29.95 with just the magazines and $79.95 with the disk...my parents weren't THAT rich :)

  6. Ahh...I remember Compute! Gazette... on Classic Computer Magazine Archive · · Score: 2
I remember reading the C-64 version of Compute! Gazette when i was younger, and trying to copy down the code down to the letter.

To note, they had some custom assembler program (I believe it was called MLX) that was written in BASIC. Basically, you would have to spit out some lines of Hex Codes for each Memory segment to load, or something. The interesting thing was that if you mistyped the code in teh magazine, it would give an annoying buzz, telling you it was bad.

The reason I'm ranting about this...I remember typing a SHITLOAD of this code one time and the power went out before I saved any of it, and the original C64 keyboards weren't all the ergonomic to begin with...i learned to save my work much more often after that ;)

    Sigh, the memories :">

Actually, as simplistic as this hack appears to be, I wonder if there might be some way a similar clock could interface more directly with the computer (maybe USB or serial interface or something).

I would imagine it could have some bells in whistles, like synchronizing the clock to a time server, forecast the weather, or something else to that effect...

  13. Re:Who should star... on Napster: The Movie · · Score: 1

First off, Kevin Bacon must have a part in this movie. Doesn't matter what part, but a part he must have. Specific recommendations are:
The Rock or Russell Crowe to play Shawn Fanning (depending on whether you want an outrageous super-hero or a more realistic, though tough-as-nails hero), Sir Anthony Hopkins in a Lector-like role should play the leading RIAA character. I think that Vin Diesel should also have a role - reprising his character in _Pitch Black_.

Yeah, just what we need, more actors and films that Kevin Bacon will have some degree with :P
