In the past two months, several MILLION shares of this very company (LNUX) have been sold by insiders. Link here And the financial history of VA Linux has been many times worse than SCO's could ever be.
Hang on for a sec... these kids are probably paid $8/hour, and you expect them to be knowlegeable on something as obscure and complicated as Linux? You're living with you head in the sand, buddy.
That's funny that people are saying that Cisco has such good tech support. I started out as a tech support grunt a few years before the boom, and I turned down a job at Cisco because their pay was ridiculously low. I guess that they got plenty of suckers who wanted to work there just because it was Cisco. If I took a job there at what they wanted to pay me, I wouldn't have given two shits about service.
Well, that was a blindingly generalised statement wasn't it.
Yes it was. It was an answer to a blindingly generalised question. And I appreciate you saying, "I don't fall into that category", but that wasn't my point. My point wasn't that EVERYBODY who writes OSS these days is well off or a college kid, just that MOST people are because MOST people are poorer now (especially IT people) than they have been in recent history. Everybody I know is working as hard as they can just to pay their bills. Nobody has time or money to work for free. But then again, I don't know *everybody*.
It's simple. People are poor. They are working to feed their families now. Nobody is interested in coding for free. Mod me down, but it's the fucking truth. The only people writing code for free these days are insanely wealthy introverts (few and far between) and the few college kids that are still supported by mommy and daddy, who also have the attention span of a gnat.
So what I want to know is anything with the Linux kernel good to use, or just SUSE? Call me nuts, but I thought that different distributions using the Linux kernel could be pretty damn different as far as security and stability go.
Running Mac OS X doesn't make me feel my b00bs are any larger. It does, however, make me feel a little freer than the WinDrones of the world.
Defining yourself by your operating system is just as sad as someone who defines themselves by the car they drive. You're a good little consumer. You keep believing that you're "freer" because you run an Apple. Good consumer.
You have completely, totally, and utterly missed the point of this article. You are in fact, a shining example of why people are NOT adopting OSS. Read the fucking article.
Homeland Security are the new American Nazis. I'm sure they'll have their own SS troops, soon, if they don't already. Not only would I never believe a word these bastards have to say, but I'm waiting for the next sane administration to dismantle this bunch of jackbooted thugs. So what is this, a "code orange" for web sites? oooh. Well, next thing we know, they'll start arresting webmasters of unpatched web servers for terrorism. Homeland Security can suck my dick (ooops, that's illegal too, isn't it?)
Whoever is selling this shit should've done it about 5 years ago. In the dot-com hey day, I bought some pretty insane stuff at prices higher than most of these things. Luckily, the things that I did buy really *ARE* collector's items, and are insured. Ah, to have money again....
Hmm well I guess I'm not ever using their service. I use Mozilla
Wow. Well, I guess their CEO is sweating over that potential loss of $1.75 You, and all of the other Mozilla users probably end up to a potential loss of, what, $82.25? Big fucking deal. Get over yourself. Whoever you are. They don't fucking care.
I am not a biologist, but I have been reading research books, and papers written by people who seem to know what they're talking about (judged based upon correlation with other unrelated studies, if the person(s) doing the research belong to an accredited organization, such as a university, and also seemingly sound research methods otherwise). An afternoon toke could have enough of an effect to allow a person to forget distractions, and just hack away at the task at hand.
Um, well, this may seem just a tad obvious, but have you ever considered just trying the fucking drugs for yourself?? Any by the by, that thing about quality or concentrations of THC is bullshit. A few hits with the good shit, and forget about it. About all you want to do is eat twinkies and watch grass grow. It's fucking fantastic.
You're talking about supporting value systems of the countries producing them, but then you say go to TARGET or WAL-MART? If you activists want to have an impact, how about starting at home. China doesn't give 2 shits about whether or not you buy a pack of batteries. It's a pointless gesture designed to make YOU feel better. If you want to make a real impact, don't shop at Target or Wal-Mart. Those big box stores are blights.
Before you know it, 5 hours have passed and you got 2 weeks of work done.
Are you sure you're not describing coke? Weed is more like "Before you know it, 1 minute has passed, and you forgot what you were doing a minute ago. Repeat for several hours. At the end you'll find that you A. Relaxed B. Ate too much and C. Got ZERO accomplished.
Ah, and here it comes. The paranoid pundits reading too much into every article, speech, and white paper that they have archived in their bored, empty little brains. I love posts like this. It reminds me about how much of a life I reall *do* have.
What these people offer is VALUE. Your argument is like saying that that $2 hamburger from the drive-through didn't taste good. Well no shit, Sherlock. You get what you pay for. Executives know this. If they only need some software to function for a year or two, or it doesn't have to be 100% bug free, then why spend all of that $$ on a US programmer? Good IT people have their place, but where ever you fall in the food chain, cheap and quick or expensive and solid, you still have to offer VALUE.
I happen to remember reading here when Gartner said, "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET RID OF ALL IIS INSTALLATIONS" that everybody agreed with Gartner. They're not in any way pro-MS.

Slay the Mighty Red Dragon Arragon, son of Lothar to acquire The Chalice of Death and you get... A 2 liter of Mountain Dew Extreme!!!
WTF is a "Go-Ped"??
You know, you don't actually have to leave those windows open... (I usually didn't when I was a programmer)
I had forgotten to fire up my copy of Kazaa this morning!
Well, that was a blindingly generalised statement wasn't it.

... that you posted this in a public forum where potentially a *lot* of people will be able to see this, right?

And, who outside of the geek world even knows what the SETI thing is? Who fucking cares?

You're not a customer if you're not paying them. You're a leech. Nobody gives two shits about leeches.

Besides, it's expensive getting metals out of the earth (as in mining them). Doesn't it make more sense to save money and recycle them?
If it did, there'd be a recycling station on every corner. So obviously, no, it's still cheaper to mine for "new" metal than to recycle.
