I would like to use this at a bar, and use a 10 minute time out, you know, to prevent beer from getting warm.;-) That would be the place to be! (If you want puke on your shoes... "We have to drink to keep the internet connection alive!")
I would imagine a bar code printed on the original receipt that is tied to a MAC address (have to get it off the laptop... somehow) And everytime a drink or product is [re]ordered use a bar code reader to reactiveate tthe MAC for an hour. You can even let the user keep the recipt to aviod asking for the MAC address every day. Your wait staff enforce it by manually scanning the bar code.
If we ditch software patents, a lot of comanies will lose out on their revenue. However, these same companies can violate others' former patents as well. This isn't quite a zero result because you still have to spend time and money tin integrate the previously patented stuff. But you can wind up with a greater product, which can push profits, resulting in an assumed 0-result
However that is not the only effect. The patent office work load shrinks, people are free and happier, and they enjoy their time on the computer with better software systems and devices.
You could establish a lower bound as falling into the microwave background radiation. However, you could much easier argue that the signal would have to be usable for interstate commerce. I think that is a fair argument even considering the over-stepping of authority that is attempted on a routine basis.
Where is the "market" for the radio signals? The farmer had some supply on the market and off the market. Simularly, you (or the feds) would have to prove that your radio signal was affecting interstate commerce. The government did that in this case, but you have not.

Actually it shoulnd't be that hard... as an embedded software engineer, i would say run the signal from the tape head to a DAC (if analog) and just write out the data the same way a wav file is written. When you "write out" the data, you only need to signal the USB serial protocol which would wrap the (analog?) data. The actual mediaum for USB data is a differential pair of wires. Some micro geek with tape reading experience could probably build a tape -to-usb reader for a few bucks. You wouldn't even need a USB tranceiver, though it probably would make it much, much easier.
All in all, remmeber you only have to take some data and wrap it in a protocol that is expressed on a differential pair. Not that hard...
But don't you have a problem with a company derviving revenue from a service that I provide. I asorb the costs. Where as with my porch light no one is making any money (except the power c.o)
Even though WIFI is a broadcast network, even when it is secured, it is a signal from a private device. For these people to use my access point beacon to provide their subscriber with any kind of service is criminal tresspass and can be prosecuted as such. Remeber, I own it and I pay to power it.
Of course, if they want to work out a compensation agreement either fee and/or free service, then I bet we can grant permission to use...

Don't call it femdom. PLEASE! I will agree that there is a feminizing of men going on (the whole Metro thing) but do not think that you will be "on top" or you ahve a right to be on top. This is largely due to the Pill. It puts power back into women's hands. They get to control if and when they reproduce. It is this finals say that allows them to take on higher education, careers and become wealthy and a huge part of the economy with all the repurcussions therein.
I also admit in societies where everyone is equal, that typically women do end up in power, due to us being baby batter cannons and always following our lower heads.

Can someone who isn't already a Libertarian tell me what a republic is? I thought not. On the surface they look the same- they both vote. But in a republic you have RIGHTS some of which are inalienable and others which are granted by consitutions. No one may violate your rights without first going through the steps ("Due Process")
It is in a democracy that you have no rights, though there are votes. The majority may vote themseves any privialge they wish. They can vote your wife, mother, or sister to be community property. Such an act is repugnant to a republic.

Ironically, if you seperate yourself from the world and live in a radiation-free environment, you get sick. Your body relies on repairing damage caused by low-level radiation. We've evloved with it since the beginning of time. The thing is if there is not enough damage to be detected the whole system doesn't get used and "backs up" like a clogged drain, while the undedected damage does not get repaired, ever and that leads to more problems later.
I could venture to say it is that they put it up in the first place and now block the radiation that is actually making them sick. What started out as a safety concern is actually converted to a safety hazard by removing the concern.
From what I've seen the Avalon stuff is only slightly incompatible with the SVG spec, so much so I think it would be relatively easy to write a converter from one to another. Last I checked, the quoting, attributes and properties were arranged differently, but still a 1:1 mapping.
If this Metro is based off Avalon and such, then why not just switch everyone over to SVG? SGV 1.1 spec is formalized and is quite awesome. I do some interactive interfaces in SVG (as opposed to flash or Java) for the web.

Can't you triangulate from FM radio station signal strength?
It woud have the following advangates:
Way smaller database
Way more coverage
It should be easy to do with the adevnt of software radio.
