Man, don't scare me. What should i consider "old"?
It's a state of mind really. I'm 61 and could be called old, hell I get senior discounts now.
I have no illnesses and feel as well as I ever have, or I could dwell on every ache and pain and start acting like I was 61 instead of a "kid" (say 35 yrs old : } ) still.
Advertisement / marketing organizations that want the status quo to remain should not press the issue. Some simple facts are going to come out of any meaningful conversation on the topic:

I have a stupid 4 second video that was part of a much longer post; Posted to a MineCraft website my son and I played on.
I had forgotten all about it till the e-mail started to come in, at this time it's seen around 430,000 unique views and nobody likes it (go figure), It's being seen out of conetxt.
I refuse to put any ads on it or screw with it in any way, it's as it was when it was first posted (other than it's description).
If you want to hunt it down, search for badactorep on youtube - of all my Gmail accounts that's the handle Google (gmail) stuck me with (and the worst of em all).
The demographics one can get from that amount of views is just amazing, one can really zero in on their visitors - and why I don't log onto sites unless I have a real need, like posting a new video to another account that is my main site (also no ads or overlays, just videos),
Man, those were my prime hacking years. If I was getting started that late, I wouldn't be any good until I was 30.
I started late as well (30 something) I was learning assemble language on the TRS-80 3, The AmigA while a great system stopped me cold (no programs, even the basic was very broken).
I tried to get my son to learn hacking or at the least assemble language he had no interest.
So tried hard, failed due to the system I was using.

Once burnt twice shy, not something Sony is familiar with.
TL, DNR: 9 years ago, Sony was root kitting the machines of people who bought their CDs, and living about it.
Mark Russinovich of Sysinternals (at the time) has a very good article on this. You can learn a lot through it, least I did. http://blogs.technet.com/b/mar...
His first post I can't find in the time I have, is intense as well as much longer.
Get picked off the street and made a certified nuclear reactor operator in 18 months. They will do all of the training required, you just need to be serious in your studies. Especially when you haven't clue one on the subject:}
I do qualify it as a tech job, I could write much to back that up but it'd be just be a lot of junk you wouldn't wish to read.
Just saying fate works in odd ways. I was unemployed for close to two years prior.
Many times I've been refused a purchase as a credit/debit/card or check was required. Hard for me to beleive but I've been there.
I find a wallet makes my butt hurt so I carry just three cards I find of importance my debit card, drivers license, and library card - nothing else is ever required.
My debit card pays for everything, everybody is set up to accept it. Cash I give to the kids:)
As for pictures I always have my cell phone which I would never use for monetary transactions, Just four days ago (Black Friday) I had thought I had lost my cell phone even went back to look for it, was in my freaking back pocket pocket, found when it made one of it's noises; boy was I ever glad - but shows how easy it would be to lose ones ability to purchase or pay for anything if dependent upon a cell phone or such.
They can be hacked, fooled, or in any number of ways made to provide bad numbers.
Paper ballots find their way to peoples home for safe keeping only to stuff the boxes themselves (cite:/. article)
But paper ballots are actually the only way to go and how I vote. but by mail only, I'd much rather stand in line to fill out my "paper ballet; I'm never sure it's filled out properly and counted or even made it to it's destination.
Yes electronic voting being outlawed long ago is my feelings on the matter; now voting by mail running a close second.
Note: I live in Washington State, I knew Charter lost (and crying) as I was headed to the school to vote, I still voted and the laws have since been changed to prevent that from happening again. But that was just the news services attempting to beat each other and just wrong.in so many ways.
I had a chance to bid on an ENIAC at a Government auction, Looking at it, while it would be cool to have and show off, my entire 3 bedroom ranch house with an extension wasn't big enough to store it in; had to pass for obvious reasons.
I did ask about it, the high bid was $300 but refused as the precious metals were worth more than that.
Cops swarm the area arresting many, while there were problems with a stolen tablet (My Motorola Xoom) and my neglect to change the routers password (I thought the tablet long gone) I was working on my car all day got concerned and called 911 twice no answer (ever feel unwanted:) ).
Across the highway I saw lights flashing (cops telling me "I was covered I guess) I saw my out door light was out, fixed it (as was turning dark) at which time the area was swarming with cops, (while a set up I'm sure) they talked to a person who was said to of been behind me all day (a shooter situation,me the target (kid you not) they arrested the neighbors with bails just to be troublesome.
I go into my house (not arrested nor talked to) three swat dudes are searching my place, as I mentioned not one word was said not even what they were looking for (my hard drives which I pulled earlier in the day due to a neighbor situation-if they had asked I'd of tossed the drives at them to get them out of there.
No warrant, nothing, and nobody has had a problem with it, friends or any legal advisory. A paper explaining somethings was to of been left behind which I found (thus knowing the bails) but I put it up for later reading - they took it the next day (I guess I have an open door policy I was unaware of).
No conclusions on my part to impart just what happened to me just a few months ago (close to my last log in), other than yes the cops can do what they wish (FWIW I'm white, blond hair and blue eyes, I don't see it as a racist situation).
This one swat dude was so computer blind he didn't find anything even if he was looking right at it, he set up a monitor very small and unseen video camera to see where I hid the drives (apparently talking could of compromise his identity) as soon as they left I pulled them out I had nothing to hide - the drives were imaged and case found to be of no importance (go figure).
I'm sure swat destroyed my mother board, and took out a few drives I'm still checking (do notice my last log in date, while a new mother board fixed my computer. I'm typing this from the library.
How bad were they? I had a very important drive (I felt) it was a 300 Gig USB drive, this "professional" picked it up to get access to the hard drives from the same case, Imaged them then put the USB drive back untouched. If it wasn't a hard drive he had no clue.
BTW nothing of any concern was found on my drives as some claimed (The tablet thieves) and any legal problems on my part over before they even started. One persons pr0n is another panic. I don't like gay pr0n but have yet turned anybody in over it.
With the tablet they dropped the router (not blocking anything), One was so proud of himself he left his name as well as editing my old post (which I keep for reference) so I came across as some clown. Him I plan on tracking down.
-Do note I have swat over someones word, while the FBI would of been following these type of files and notified the cops if they came into the area (my source is an older article on/.)
Yet when I saw my WiFi tablet on my router list I called 911 as due to it's limited range I knew where it was and damn close, 911 never showed or responded in any way.
Lots of info but where do you stop with a situation like I went through, I also made no claims or complaints I wouldn't know where to start.
Even if your aware of what to do, the cops follow their own laws and will arrest a teen if not given the proper treatment or the information they require, they can learn but can't practice it without problems which could very well mean a nigh in jail.
I live in that neighborhood (PNNL is here); the "poor" Salmon folks are trying to break down a few damns, Bush even made a trip out to look at "Ice harbor" dam.
The fish ladders allow the Salmon to migrate and been the main concern, this news is just bad.
The Dams need to stay for the cheap energy they produce, and they are good places to visit at times (fish viewing window) to see the migration; a few fish to lots. 9-11 they blocked access to the viewing area, but are open now and a good place to take the kids. (not that that alone should keep them standing).
There are screens that prevent the fish or other junk from going into the turbines or even getting close, I don't see where this fish story is a problem, but the dam breakers will use this as a smoking gun.
We'll "get it right" when we knock off the electronic BS and use what has been tested to work, marked paper ballots.
It.Just.Works.
This area you mail in you votes, there are many errors one can make to have your vote(s) tossed out, today I wanted to go to the polls and vote only to find that you just don't do that, it's snail mail only.
I was self teaching myself Quantum Physics, I read every book the library had, in the end I decided I needed to do the math myself so had a Quantum Physics math book sent from some university.
I laughed when I saw the book it was just all math no text and so over my head, I'd never seen math like that even more amusing (to me) was the first pages were of corrections so people had done the math and caught many errors (read the book).
So over my head I couldn't even begin to "do the math" I'd never seen math so uncomprehensible I even showed it off to friends.
I sent the book back on time and never again thought of doing the math.
Yes I can see why some would quit that field alone.
---I can for one do Nuclear Physics and tell you when a reactor will go critical by it's construction and other variables (there's an equation you use for this), my mistake was thinking Quantum Physics math would be similar.
I'd wake up around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, shit/shower/shave, spend a couple of hours getting my food and coffee and watching a bit of TV, sit around working on things until around 2 or 3 AM, and then venture off into gaming or Slashdot or Fark or what have you (this was the late 90s and early 2000s) until I went to bed at 8 or 9 AM. Rinse and repeat. I enjoyed this schedule and in fact there's evidence that I thrived on this schedule. Being awake when nobody else is, there are few distractions, I can focus on what needs to be done while the majority of my fellows and users are asleep. Lack of interruption is a treasure.
Up until my computer "broke" (Newegging parts for a new one) that was my schedule for close to three years and it also agreed very well with me, no programing strictly gaming.
I worked shift work, 40 hours swing shift, then 40 hours graveyard, up to days (repeat). Graveyard you worked more than 40 hours but it spanned to the next week and so no over time.
I transferred to days every other year just to avoid a back assed work scheduled, Truman's wife was claimed to of come up with.
5 days in to the Graveyard shift you asked anybody what day it was and they most often gave a blank stare.
Being inside a room with no view of the outside was a world of florescent lights. which for green reasons half were off, that lasted around 6 months when they all were turned back on and a bit more sanity as you could see more (I felt).
I figured it would turn one stupid:} as just when you got used to working a shift you switched to a different shift (world).
Back in 97, javascript was little more than a toy language for making animations in websites.
Whereas today it's a toy language for making "immersive content" websites more annoying.
But on the upside with java you can play any MAME game on your cellphone. Bubble Bobble, Moon patrol, lots of fun. The MAME player is in the Google store, it's versions that keep changing that keep you busy.
Roms are being deleted all the time on the internet, I know...because I've constantly tried to find the original Arcade Pac Man roms, but the copyrights are still in effect as various companies sell retrogames themselves, which they hold the license to.
Get on the Usenet, there is a very active MAME newsgroup and request your needs; they will be met. -Not Google Groups they are text only.
Myself I use Forte Agent (Windows) as an e-mailer and to access the UseNet. (1.93 as it's the best version, you need to run Stunnel for SSL, and place Agent as a DEP exception) versions after 1.93 you don't need to do those steps but have a folder setup that sucks, and will load html pages (I only do text).
