    If you're nested that deeply, then perhaps it's time to reconsider your coding style. More than 4 or 5 levels is a serious warning. There are these great new inventions called "functions" and "procedures" that might help.

    not all of that nesting is my fault, and as a mater of a fact i've been slowly removing some of that nesting from the code i've inherited by using methods (the term of choice in Objective C.) besides, that fifteen figure i mentioned before was an exaggeration - to some extent.

    don't forget that methods/functions/procedures/etc have more overhead than branching - especially with an environment as dynamic as Cocoa/GNUStep/NexStep.

    well given your second example, your first should probably be something more along the lines of the following:

    struct frameBufffer {
    int foo;
    };

    struct frameBufffer frameBuffers[MAX_FRAMEBUFFERS];
    pthread_mutex_t frameBufferMatrix;
    using full names verses your abbreviations, for the same symbol names kinda negates your augment though ;) (and it still fits in this tiny little html editor)

    yes, but you can minimize the quality loss by using S-Video, or Component Video. If you already have a Laser Disc player, it is much less expensive to use a DAC in the video card than in a dedicated Laser Disc Digitizing box. (although i've never heard of such a beast)

  10. Neither is Laser Disc on Extracting Digital Video from LaserDiscs? · · Score: 1

    LD is an analog format, that means that weather the DAC is in the LD-ROM drive (what ever that is) or in your capture card, you'll get similar quality. this is the exact same thing as VHS -> DVD, just with a different medium holding the analog data. (that doesn't break down with use)

    unless this guy is planning on having a DVD of the true StarWars Trilogy (not this crap that lucas(s) put out in the 1990's) it just isn't worth the effort, and he should just buy the DVD releases of his LD films.
