It's just not very helpful that you can neither ALT-tab through individual terminal windows nor see window titles on the dock. - if you are running panther, try pressing F9. now try F10. http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/expose/
I haven't even found a way to get real *global* keyboard shortcuts, not even with a third party app. With *global* I mean: I expect to press Apple+T at any time, whatever app I'm in, and get a terminal window. Impossible? - not impossible! among the many (many) features of dragthing is the ability to put *global* keyboard shortcuts on any item... say an applescript that brings the terminal to the front and opens a new window?;)
I really hope apple adds some more flexibility to the UI with their next release (virtual desktops anyone?) - have a look at http://wsmanager.sourceforge.net/:)
I could go on with many things here but it generally boils down to the fact that the Mac UI is not very customizable. Please! keep them coming! (by the way, a little google never hurt anyone)
*BZZZZZ* First PowerBook G4 Titanium: 400 MHz or 500 MHz Second PowerBook G4 Titanium: 550 MHz or 666 MHz (AKA Gigabit Ethernet) Third PowerBook G4 Titanium: 666 MHz or 800 MHz (AKA DVI) Fourth PowerBook G4 Titanium: 867 MHz or 1000 MHz (the other one)
The first generation of G4 PowerBooks have IRda ports. thats 400 MHz or 500 MHz. only.
I also happen to have a 500 MHz TiBook... one of the hinges is busted (and has been amputated) but if you are interested, we can talk price. (since i made that post, the AirPort card, and 256 MiB of RAM moved over to the iBook)
that doesn't work, when one eye is off, i move my head so that it is back on again, causing the *other* eye to be off. besides, my eye doctor says that my right eye is somewhat weak - i only use it when my left eye is closed! (yet i have no depth perception problems... as far as i can tell)
From observation of my own behavior, i think i'm right hand with a slight lean towards being ambidextrous:
Points on right: * I write with my right hand * I use tools with my right hand (unless I'm cutting my food) * I wipe my ass with my right hand * I usually hold my dick with my right hand when peeing (unless I'm thinking about Gatica, then i hold it with my left just to prove it wrong)
points on left * When i cut my food, i use the knife in my right hand - opposite of all right handers, people who don't know me and see me eat think I'm a lefty
points on ambidextrous * I drive with my left hand more than 2/3 of the time (and i've always driven an automatic, no need to have my hand on the shifter) * I jack off with either hand, though 2/3 of the time it's right * I mouse with either hand, though 4/7 of the time it's right
it doesn't address what I consider to be the main limitation of wireless keyboards: not having the little caps/num/scroll-lock lights on them.
I'd rather that my wireless keyboard not have caps/num/scroll-lock *BUTTONS*.... they are useless remnants of an older age. Just look how Scroll Lock has been repurposed for use in kvms.... and when i'm on a PC, I pop the num-lock keycap off... otherwise I hit it about 1/6th of the time I go for the 7 key. uhg.
(Posted by someone who's done something about his Caps Lock key...)
Getting back on topic, a wireless mouse that requires a pad rather than batteries has been around for ages and ages. [link]
a couple of years ago i signed up on sharebuilder.com and set it to automatically buy apple every month (when it was at $30) a couple of weeks later they called me asking for more identification like my SS card and tax information. because of the patriot act.
sadly i was unable to provide them with my information, and they sold my shares (they were already up!) and gave me back the money i had given them (none of my profit) making me disillusioned with dealing with the stock market.
2 points: 1) the bondi blue iMac was *MOSTLY* based on CHRP, it had a few changes that made it only run Mac OS. it also had a lot in common with the PowerBook G3 of the era (Wallstreet)
2) the platform that CHRP morphed into wasn't PPCP, but PReP for for PowerPC Refernce Platform. you can still find hardware based on that to this day - see Amiga.
there were also some mac clones that had a little bit of CHRP or PReP in there heritage (they had RS-232 serial ports and PS/2 ports as well as ADB!) but as far as i know they still only ran the MacOS.
this is new news how? sadly, us nerds and geeks are probably the only people who already realized this, so/. is just preaching to the quire here...:\
the following is an excerpt of what i posted in a recent rant:
Sadly, in the case of the presidential election this year, (or the farce that was the California gubernatorial recall last year) only the Democans (the republicans and democrats are the same thing) get their names known to the United States public. The system is so royally fucked up, that I can't even vote for the non-Republicrats as I have no idea what those unknowns represent! I guess I'll have to vote for myself all the way down the ticket.:\
Well, Apple *DID* have prior use with Harmony... as i recall it was the code name of Mac OS 7.6. (it was followed by Tempo - OS 8, Sonata - OS 9, and Rhapsody, soon to be OS X with all it's cat names)
i wouldn't go as far as creating a whole new OS, maybe a new shell to run on something like the zaurus, but not a full blown OS doesn't make much sense to me when we already have a fully functional, 100% customizable OS like Linux.
um.. what happened in the 2004 primaries? or are you talking about the 2003 general election? I'm confused...
note: before you think i'm confused, i want to remind the parent that there are more than just presidential elections. the cover more than just the federal government.
and with 1 gibibyte of RAM non uncommon these days, why not save the original somewhere in upper memory? if the flash fails, copy it back just like you copied it back from the floppy.
like you said, if you reset, you are fucked even if the backup was on nonvolatile memory... so why not speed things up with volatile memory?
full disclosure: i *am* A+ certified, but i've *never* flashed a BIOS, i've only read about the process.
quobobo said To be fair, he's getting an iBook, not a Mac desktop. I use a Logitech 6-button mouse with my Powerbook whenever it's at a desk, but it's simply not an option on the road.
i have that 6 button mouse built into my iBook thankyouverrymuch! (click, tap, +4 corner taps)
the only time i use the external mouse is when i'm using the 'book in bed, and using the track pad means contorting my arm (which hearts just thinking about it!)
To quobobo: what up? i haven't seen you around the 'net lately... shoot me an email!
the page to sign up on is *not* secure. i don't have my trusty little lock, and it isn't an https:// url.... and they expect people to enter their social security number....
the real loss is the video mirroring only support - instead of spanning. (why do they fear sales of PMG5's will be impacted if they allow spanning - instead - it just drives techies away -:( )
if the existing pattern holds, monitor spanning is disabled in the software, and it is quite simple to turn it on.:)... if the pattern holds....

not to mention that all the G5's ship with GPU's that are about 14 generations newer than the nVidia GeForce 3. ;)
