I would like to see some links to back up your statement that people have been claiming since 1998 that "the year" of the linux desktop was coming. I remember several pundits stating over the last year that this was the year that Linux on the desktop would start becoming viable and that is exactly what is happening. I am not aware of any such claims previous. Can you enlighten me:
My wife and daughters all use Sprint, because it offered unlimited Sprint to Sprint minutes, meaning they could talk to each other all they wanted without using up their allotted minutes. Nice in theory, but, in practice they cut off their phone service every two weeks for going over their allotted minutes even though they never talk to anyone but other Sprint users. Everytime, it takes hours on the phone with customer service to get the phones turned back on.
After asteroids almost wiped out all life on this planet on several occasions, is that why we evolved and why we have always looked to the heavens? Did we evolve in order to protect life from these killers from the sky?
You use Whistler? And you call typical geek a loser? Read the blurb at the top, "News for Nerds. Stuff that matters."
Microsoft so doesn't matter!
Can't we ban these Microsoft idiots?
The more things change.....

I can remember people expressing the same basic sentiments about vcr's, cable tv, personal computers, cell phones, etc, etc.
With the introduction of any new technology, there is a period of gestation before it's use becomes wide spread.
For all you Microsoft apologists out there. Did you ever stop to think there is a reason so many people hate Microsoft, that it is not because Microsoft is just misunderstood.
Well, I am here to let you know that there is hope, because I also used to be a Microsoft fan. If I can kick the habit, then you also can be free of your addiction, you CAN get the needle out of your arm!
The first step is admitting you have a problem and then salvation can be yours. Don't despair, you poor lost souls.
When Apple open sources it I will be interested, but, until then I am not interested. I don't think I am alone in feeling this way, so, I see no threat.
I am also worried about the direction my country is headed. But, I think the solution is to get involved and change the direction of this country. All you have to do is study the recent history of this country to see what a difference dedicated activists can make, i.e.;
Civil rights
Vietnam war

Excuse me for being sceptical, but, I will believe it when I see it. Remember, Microsoft's idea of cross platform is supporting win 3.1, 95, 98 and NT. I do not trust anything that comes from Microsoft.
Agreed. I am using SVG now to develop a web based process control application. SVG does rock. I just wish they would get SVG support for Mozilla finished so I could stop using Windows again.

Yeah, I know. Everybody hates us Americans. I just know I am going to lose sleep tonight because of it .... Not!
You have got it backwards. It is the French that hate everyone else. No one hates the French because no one gives a shit about the French.

I played with it about a month back and was amazed at how easy it makes GUI development.
People pick on Microsoft because of their immoral, unethical business practices. They deserve every hit they take.
Okay fine, I can accept being crazy if you can live with being an idiot.
Of the 7500 pro-Microsoft responses, how many were from an actual live person?
More people are killed by cars than all other weapons combined. Let's outlaw cars.
I don't believe this was a rant against reality based TV. The article I read was a rant against the hypocrisy of the media.
America does not "act like it owns the world"
We act like we don't give a shit who owns it, it is still here for our pleasure.
You are right that one instance means nothing, but, when it keeps happening, it is called a trend and it is significant.
Better question:
When will it run Windows?
Never, of course.

Libraries are still subscription based. The subscription fees just come from your taxes now.

Damn, sure gonna miss ya. What with this shortage of idiots we are experiencing, just can't stand to lose the ones we already got.

Don't run away, fight back.

I wish there was more documentation period. I am waiting for SVG for dummies as I have a hard time working off of the spec. It has been fun though.
C# is a truly open standard? What standards body certified it as a standard? It's not controlled by Microsoft?
